A 911 call from a student at the University of Central Florida and a quick response by campus police may have prevented a mass murder.
Campus police said Monday that 30-year-old James Oliver Seevakumaran -- who shot himself in the head as officers arrived, before any other students were hurt -- was heavily armed with two guns, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, a backpack filled with explosives and a plan to attack other students as they fled the seven-story dorm where he lived.
Seevakumaran's roommate, who hid in a bathroom after Seevakumaran pointed a gun at him, called authorities about the incident, UCF Police Chief Richard Beary said.
Around the same time, Seevakumaran pulled a fire alarm, apparently to get other students out in the open, the police chief said.
Police officers responded to the dorm within three minutes of the first call.

Wow—that’s some Irish name.
I googled the last name of the perp and there was a Tamil guerilla leader similar last name, slightlty differet spelling. in Sri Lanka who committed suicide rather than being taken which became the modus operendi of this group...dont any invesigative journalists look into whether this was just some college kid upset he was being thrown out of dorm or is there more serious intent here?

Another crazy looking to get famous. If the media would stop covering these guys 24/7 for 3 months after the murders this might go away?
My Alma Mater has grown up - now the third largest public 4-year school in the country by enrollment (Wikipedia [AZ State, U of Minn.]). Would definitely have been a bloodbath.
It is my understanding that the Newtown, CT police took 20 minutes to respond. Sometimes the police help, other times they don't. You take your chances in an unmonitored gun-free zone.
And note that those three minutes wer before he got any shots off, thanks to the roommate placing the call. If it had been three minutes from the time he started shooting, who knows how many would have been killed?
It is the middle of March. Didn't the current semester start more than two months ago?
I'm betting this 30 year old was a professional student on government grant money who feared actually graduating and going out into the real world. Any takers?
I was amazed that the university was allowing a 30 year old low life deadbeat to be living in a dorm. What were they thinking?
