WASHINGTON On Tuesday Sen. Rand Paul will urge conservatives to abandon their long standing opposition to a pathway to citizenship for the millions of undocumented workers in the United States, bluntly warning to not do so Republicans "will need to resign ourselves to permanent minority status," according to excerpts of a Tuesday speech obtained by BuzzFeed.
In a speech to the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Legislative Summit, Paul will lay out his case for a conservative, and Republican, embrace of comprehensive reform. "The Republican Party has insisted for years that we stand for freedom and family values. I am most proud of my party when it stands for both Republicans need to give birth to a new attitude toward immigrants, an attitude that sees immigrants as assets not liabilities," Paul will say, according to excerpts of the speech.
Like many Republicans who back a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, Paul argues Latinos should be a natural wellspring of GOP votes that the party has increasingly abandoned.
"Hispanics should be a natural and sizable part of the Republican base. That they have steadily drifted away from the GOP in each election says more about Republicans than it does Hispanics," Paul will say, arguing that "Defense of the unborn and defense of traditional marriage are Republican issues that should resonate with Latinos, but have been obscured by the misperception that Republicans are hostile to immigrants."
Although Paul has long been supportive of comprehensive reform that includes some form of a pathway to citizenship for undocumented workers, Tuesday's speech represents his most detailed comments on the topic.
"Those who work for reform must understand that a real solution must ensure that our borders are secure. It must modernize our immigration controls and databases. It must allow for as much legal immigration as our workforce requires. And it must treat those who are already here with understanding and compassionwithout also unduly rewarding them for coming illegally," Paul will say.
"We should be proud that so many want to come to America, that it is still seen as the land of opportunity. Let's make it a land of legal work, not black market jobs. Let's make it a land of work not welfare. Our land should be one of assimilation, not hiding in the shadows."
Paul also will take on many of the talking points used by conservative opponents of comprehensive reform. For instance, Paul will outright dismiss claims that undocumented immigrants have become a drain on the nation's welfare system, saying "I've never met a new immigrant looking for a free lunch."
Rand can do all the flowery talk he wants to court them, but giving more the vote is a disaster.

======================================================
YOO HOO, RAND----The phony "just here for a better life" crowd who freely violate our borders and "do the jobs Americans won't do" have more criminal enterprises than you can shake a stick at.
<><>ICE's "documents and benefits fraud task force" found a common practice among "impoverished" illegals is to buy several faked identities for several thousand dollars each----the illegal then votes and rides the US gravy train under several names.
<><> Jose Madrigal---the Washington state rapist---had some 30 identities. And probably voted and collected US benefits under every single identity.
<><>June 26, 2010 An illegal using multiple identities was sentenced to prison and ordered to pay back $3 million in fraudulently obtained unemployment compensation. Manuel Mejia Ordonez, got eight years for conspiracy to commit mail fraud........and identity theft.
<><> Hilderberto Salinas sold state drivers' licenses issued out of the states Motor Vehicle Agency in NJ to illegals with multiple identities who did not have the necessary id's....among 40 people who participated in the widespread ring. "Impoverished" illegals paid $2,500 to $7,000 apiece for the licenses.
....but Liz, we need to reach out and spread the gospel of conservatism to these wayward, lost their way immagres, as spoken by the GOP crowd who brings us the likes of Bush, McCain and Romney. //S
“Rand, you cant have it both ways. You cant have small government and give illegals the vote at the same time.
Same problem with Rubio.
Get this :
For instance, Paul will outright dismiss claims that undocumented immigrants have become a drain on the nation’s welfare system, saying “I’ve never met a new immigrant looking for a free lunch.”
No??? Millions of them line up for free breakfast, lunches and food stamps every day Rand!”
So...bottom line is...NO ONE represents us. Paul is ignorant.
My take...we have no one willing to represent us. I think they’ve all sold out.
This did not surprise me.
When he said this he was talking to Hispanics NOT US,
the GOP’s Hispanic coaches recommend that their candidates characterize them as ‘Reagan conservatives’ in speeches, not ‘moochers’
and not call them ‘illegals’ anymore, now call them ‘new immigrants’
The 2013 GOP is the new compassionate conservatism. Rand took the class.
Its politics AB. GOP got beat, they are scared.
“I hate Republicans more than Democrats because the Democrats will cut your throat while looking you in the eye but the Republicans stab you in the back while whispering in your ear that they are your dearest friend. “
I wish you weren’t right, but you are!
If he makes such remarks to a bunch of illegal supporters he will certainly show his true colors as a ‘play to all’ fast talking politician. Reading what was posted brought to mind so many differences/objections to points Paul will use that he has to be off any choice of mine for POTUSA. His pandering to illegal enablers doesn’t show much dedication to upholding laws that exist because of deliberate consideration of the need for a stable and reliable framework for citizenship. The fact that he would take/consider all who sneaked into the USA as dedicated to our Constitution is naive as proven and demonstrated by the La Raza supporters actions. I don’t trust our political system and politicians to foresee and work for all that the Founders intended. There was an order established and that it has been allowed over the years to be warped and usurped doesn’t help the Nation to be viable.
Border security must not be predicated on amnesty. PERIOD.
This kind of political realignment simply doesn't work.
Simply making the GOP the "me too" party on amnesty is a lost cause.
The Dems already give these underclass hispanics everything they want on the amnesty/immigration front; - as well as give them everything they also want with regards to government programs/subsidies/handouts, affirmative action measures, etc.
So, in the end, there's still not much of a reason for them to actually cast a ballot for a republican/conservative candidate.
All this does is consolidate the democrats stranglehold over power at the local, state, as well as, federal level.
“Sorry, but the GOP Presidential tickets actually wound up getting a lower percentage of the Hispanic vote in the aftermath of the ‘86 amnesty than they did prior to the passage of the ‘86 legislation.
This kind of political realignment simply doesn’t work. “
GOOD POINT!!
Certainly, you don't think that there were half as many whites in the US when Romney ran than when Bush ran. What actually happened:
1) With the GOP refusing to fight for them, less and less whites against political correctness and open borders are even bothering to vote.
2) This while the Dems work full throttle to get a larger and larger percent of minorities to vote - even if they get out non-citizens or get people to vote more than once - and the GOP again doesn't give on dam.
That is how many state's electoral vote or tipped into the Democrat column.
And the best the GOP can is push their sellout to newer heights.
GOP again doesn't give on dam a damn
The current laws are not being enforced and therefore not working. Arizona passed immigration laws mimicking federal law and the US Justice dept. sued Arizona!
The proposed Amnesty is far superior to what president Reagan issued. Rand’s proposal has the following order:
1. Security (meaning close borders FIRST)
2. Get back of line of all those waiting legally
3. Deport any one with criminal background
4. When their turn comes, they get green card
5. Wait the normal 5 years to apply for citizenship.
Very good and practical plan IMO.
Whatever is going on now is not working. The illegals are all here either working, or drawing benefits, or committing crime and no one knows who is here and where they live.
Sarah is the last hold out and she ain’t running. So wtf do we do now?
“So wtf do we do now?”
I got nothin’.
Without looking at exits and doing a thesis on the historical Hispanic vote I will point out a couple of facts. Reagan won a huge landslide in 84 so I would imagine all demographics dropped some in 88. George W received over 40% do to outreach and support for guest worker program. In 2004 exits had 54-45 Kerry. After the argument about amnesty the bottom dropped out for McCain . Now in defense of this it was a bad year for republicans so let’s fast forward to Romney. In Obama’s 1st term we had thencontencious fight with Sotomayor which many in Hispanic community saw as racist. Then the AZ papers please law. This was universally panned in the hispanic press as targeting. The bottom for Romney dropped even further. So if you would like to point out facts lets not be selective. We went from a nine point deficit in which Bush barely beats Kerry to 75-25 and the Dems running the table in battleground states. Hell NM used to be a battleground state. Today not so much. What other effects have there been? Asian Americans also voted overwhelming democratic.
Just to look into the future a little by 2050 1/2 the country is supposed to be of color. As of 2008 republicans lost people of color by 80-20. Please explain to me how the party will be relevant without a strong outreach?
Hard to debate someone who doesn’t understand math. I’ll give you one easy one though.
In 2050 it is projected 50% of the country will be of color. In 2008 the people of color voted 80-20 for Dems. In 2050 explain how the party is relevant when 1/2 the electorate has you down by 60 points?
“I told all in previous posts that Rand Paul is Amnesty Liberal.”
You hit a home run on that one.
