Poll Tracks Dramatic Rise In Support for Gay Marriage (ABC News/Washington Post Poll)
ABC News ^ | 03/18/2013 | Gary Langer

Posted on 03/18/2013 12:12:40 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

Support for gay marriage reached a new high in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll, marking a dramatic change in public attitudes on the subject across the past decade. Fifty-eight percent of Americans now say it should be legal for gay and lesbian couples to wed.

That number has grown sharply in ABC News/Washington Post polls, from a low of 32 percent in a 2004 survey of registered voters, advancing to a narrow majority for the first time only two years ago, and now up again to a significant majority for the first time.

Most Americans, moreover, say the U.S. Constitution should trump state laws on gay marriage, a question now before the U.S. Supreme Court. And – in another fundamental shift – just 24 percent now see homosexuality as a choice, down from 40 percent nearly 20 years ago. It’s a view that closely relates to opinions on the legality of same-sex marriage.

Intensity of sentiment about gay marriage also shows considerable change in this poll, produced for ABC by Langer Research Associates. In 2004, strong opponents outnumbered strong supporters by a broad 34 percentage points. Today strong supporters are ascendant, outnumbering strong opponents by 11 points.

CHANGE – Results of this survey extend evidence of a remarkable transformation in public attitudes. Views on basic social issues often move slowly, if at all. Support for gay marriage, though, has gone from 47 percent to today’s 58 percent in just the last three years – culminating a period of change first endorsed by some state courts, then by some political figures, notably with Hillary Clinton expressing support for same-sex marriage today, and Barack Obama doing the same last May, a position he went on to underscore in his second inaugural address in January.

Even where gays and lesbians are allowed to pretend to get married, that does not change my view of their relationships. Marriage is one man and one woman - only. The Islamic one man and four women is not marriage. The politically correct two men or two women is not marriage. Changing the name does not change the reality.

It’s not “hate” to love God’s holy word, but that’s what is being sold to America. The consequences of redefining marriage to equal an abomination, as defined by God, are widespread: the destruction of the family, the degradation of moral values, especially with regard to children, increased access to children for sex by child molesters, and religious oppression of Christians.

I have a sister who is a homosexual. My next door neighbors are homosexuals. Their lives are seemingly stable, but are actually filled with insecurity, promiscuity, anger and anxiety. Homosexuals are not the same as heterosexuals, and those who care about them do not accept that their lifestyle is a happy one.

Yes, it's easier to pretend that all is well so as not to confront the issues, but imho, that is the coward's way out. Being "intelligent" has nothing to do with it.

he’s not the type who thinks that intelligent people can care about different things in different degrees. Everyone has to see the world exactly the way he does.

As suspected, you dismissed any challenge to your assertion that homosexual couples are "just like the rest of us" with an ad hominem attack. I do believe that intelligent people can disagree on such issues. However, following the law of contradiction, they cannot both be correct. If I may refresh your memory, the law of contradiction is a fundamental principal governing all human discourse, which states that two opposite propositions ("A and not-A") cannot both be true at the same time and in the same way.

Thus, your implication that the claims of those who argue for homosexual marriage are equally as valid as those of the proponents of traditional marriage - is disingenuous

The two positions are fundamentally incompatible and, in fact, locked in mortal combat. One or the other will prevail: if the gay activists succeeds, one day our children will be taught that two men or two women are just as valid a marriage as a man and a woman (if they are not already in some places) - and furthermore, the children will be taught that to believe otherwise is a dangerous and unacceptable "intolerance" and "hate speech."

If you persist in sticking your head in the sand and denying the fierce culture war that is fast gaining momentum, that is your choice to make. But you are not free to infer that a pro-gay marriage position should be given equal status alongside the pro-marriage and family stance of this forum.

Obama includes reference to gays in just about any opportunity to give a statement on any topic. It is a daily occurrence and along with his pro gay marriage support we now have Hillary Clinton and Bob Portman chiming in. The barrage of pushing the gay agenda forward is concurrent with the Supreme Court now taking on their issues and the attempt is to influence the SC to rule in their favor. After the peeling off of SC Justice John Robers on Obamacare for the socialists, I am prepared for any outcome.

One thing I am expecting, particularly if things go the gay route, is for the closet door which is being inched open by Hillary Clinton and Obama, to be swung wide and both they and their toadies will come clean as to their own sexual orientation. The democrats are preparing the way for them and will make it seem so acceptable that it will be the main plank in Clinton's presidential platform.

They can’t have it both ways. If the constitution protects homosexuality, and that is a fair argument, then it protects the unborn. Period.

That is it. Religion is considered a negative in increasing circles, the “What does it matter to you” though process is growing. Women feel empowered by men being gay, so they are overwhelmingly in favor. Media, teachers and entertainment brainwash. And just wait until we have a liberal woman for President. Gay males will be touted as “real men” and anyone not in league with this thought will be relegated to "knuckle dragger" status.

“America as we know it is over. Maybe it’s time to find another country, and escape the judgement coming on this one.”

I think you’re right. Sadly, I made the mistake of moving back here last summer after living in the Philippines for 5 years. I somehow got the idea that I could bring my family back here and we could fight for the future of this country and all that. But unfortunately, I think we have already gone over the cliff, and I don’t see any turning back economically or morally. At this point, I’m trying to get things organized and ready for a quick move back overseas when the time comes.

They can’t have it both ways
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
There is a show on TV called ‘Shameless’.
They manage to alienate EVERYONE on a weekly basis, no matter what ‘side’ of the issue you may be on.
Really not time for the lead up but the ‘Father’ of this family is ‘William Macy’ and he is a ne’er do well, scoundrel, thief, crook, manipulator to name a few.

Last week they had him moving in with another male and the guy works for the City of Chicago.
The ‘Macy’ character figures, I am living in HIS house, I am eating HIS food, I am sleeping in HIS bed BUT they are NOT Homo - so, in effect, he can’t get the benefits of a ‘partner relationship’.

He sets off on a tirade that he and his partner are being discriminated against because they are NOT homo and makes so many waves that he FINALLY gets legitimate employment.—
THE GAY community hired him as their spokesperson..

At one point - while been ‘interviewed’ for the ‘gay’ job, he is asked if he is gay....”I am whatever I need to be to get by”.

With whom a person choose to bonk doesn’t enter into my calculus of the merits of their humanity or citizenship.

You are deliberately obscuring the discussion. No one here is denying the "humanity" or advocating revoking the "citizenship" of anyone. This is the typical rhetoric employed by the enemies of the family in order to obfuscate the issue.

But of course you DO care "with whom a person choose to bonk" (stet). You would very much care to know if your child's piano teacher/Boy Scout leader/etc. is a convicted pedophile. You would very much like to know if the man pledged to marry your daughter is in fact a secret bigot with another wife - or for that matter - if he is "bi-sexual."

But you cleverly - and disingenuously - phrased your statement in such a way that the reader would agree with you, because no one wants to revoke the citizenship of gays, right? But the fact is that a person's sexual preference and behavior can impact all of our lives in a thousand ways. It DOES matter.

I find that in and of itself fascinating.
islam murders women who are raped but Republicans have a war on women
islam murders homosexuals but it is Republicans that are anti-homosexual
islam favors the marriage of nine year olds but it is Republicans that molest children
islam kills anyone who does not convert but it is Republicans that are narrow minded
I am sure polygamy will be granted for islam and no one else.

Polls about gay marriage are probably not reflective of the population as a whole if conducted in San Francisco or if you restrict the pollees to liberal (and probably gay) college students...You know how they run these polls

Have we learned nothing from all of the "unskewed polls"/Romney Landslide/etc. stuff during the last election? Turning a blind eye to poll results doesn't make them go away.

" If they live their lives with dignity and behave themselves in the setting of a paired couple, I think that’s far better than the antics of a lot of the promiscuous “straight” perverts out there."

There is no dignity in homosexuality. It's a degrading, sick perversion. I won't excuse any of the "straight" people you're talking about, but there is just no way two sodomites who mess with each other's filthy anal areas, thus exposing themselves to disease and disorder, are "better" or have more dignity.

I hate to tell you this, but some heterosexuals engage in this practice as well, or so I am told.

Many years or mindbending propaganda and lying pollsters. This poll may or may not be true but one thing for sure, the gays are feeling their power and they will not stop until they show the nation how extremist they really are.

But people tend to wise up as they age and the younger generation may get a wake up call as they see that the gay movement are not about a bunch of nice people who just want their *rights*. On the contrary they will soon learn what a bunch of nazis the gays can be.
