I am still falling in love with TN.
after our first visit last summer, couldn't wait to get back. we were there just 4 nights last week...but went thru Cade's Cove 4 times. :)
last summer, did Clingman's Dome 3 times in a week.
My wife and I just recently purchased a cabin in Gatlinburg. It was a dream come true but a lot of hard work and investment.
My heart goes out to these owners, I hope they have rental loss insurance.
This is the best site for cabin foreclosures:

After being in that area, I can see how owning a cabin there would be a dream come true (hard work and all!)
Ever since our first visit last summer, I have spent hours and hours just looking at real estate websites of that area..especially Wears Valley. Can't buy for several years (see tagline...LOL), but maybe some day.
I just can't stop looking for updates on Black Bear Ridge...I'm just so sad for the families. I can't believe I was in one of those homes just last week. :(
I just drove by there and Mt LeConte yesterday myself.
Funny thing about the Trace
I grew up on it’s boundry, it went thru my grandfather’s land off the Clinton-Jackson Blvd in Mississippi
and now I live south of Nashville in Williamson county about 4 miles off east of the Leipers Fork exit...350 miles up the Trace
(the second to last north end exit)
and I drove back from Asheville yesterday thru the area now on fire
it looked like they still had some snow at Maggie Valley..though it was 65 down below
-- Hey Sam, I heard about the fire in your factory.
-- Shhh, that's next Thursday!
The key is to buy low and go with a solid property management company.
We were blessed to find Jackson Mountain Homes and just transitioned to them in October.

They have very high standards and do not take just any cabin. We spent thousands on upgrades after we bought our cabin and they still gave us a list of things they wanted done. Their cleaning is impeccable and our cabin is inspected for bed bugs more often than the Ritz-Carlton.
As far as realtors Autumn was great to work with and they have the best site for aggregating foreclosures and short sales.
Be patient, it took us 6 months to close!
The airport {Alcoa} got almost an inch of rain so they likely have the fire contained by now. What the airport would get in rain Wears Valley would likely get as well. http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2013/mar/18/national-guard-choppers-to-join-battle-against/
our whole family has been so preoccupied today with thoughts of this. I called the rental office of edencrest this evening just to say our prayers were with them. they were truly appreciative.
My wife spent some of her childhood in Desha County Arkansas. I have a cousin that used to live in Candem and worked as a fireman there years ago.
