BAND OF BROTHERS WORLD WAR II
Members of the 101st Airborne Division "Screaming Eagles" June 7, 1944 at Ste.Marie du Mont, France
"This day is call'd the feast of Crispian. He that outlives this day, and comes safe home, Will stand a tip-toe when this day is named, And rouse him at the name of Crispian. He that shall live this day, and see old age, Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours, And say, "To-morrow is Saint Crispian." Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars, And say, "These wounds I had on Crispin's day."
KOREA
Members of the "Chosin Few", 1st Marine Division Chosin Reservoir, Korea, December 1950
"Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot, But he'll remember with advantages What feats he did that day. Then shall our names, Familiar in his mouth as household words, Harry the King, Bedford, and Exeter, Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester, Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red. This story shall the good man teach his son; And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by, From this day to the ending of the world, But we in it shall be remembered."
VIETNAM
FMF Corpsman D. R. Howe treats the wounds of Pfc. D. A. Crum, "H" Company, 2nd Battalion, Fifth Marine Regiment, during Operation Hue City.
"We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he to-day that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile, This day shall gentle his condition: And gentlemen in England now a-bed Shall think themselves accursed they were not here, And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day."
AFGHANISTAN
Soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division in action, Afghanistan, 2011
"Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more, Or close the wall up with our English dead. In peace there's nothing so becomes a man As modest stillness and humility; But when the blast of war blows in our ears, Then imitate the action of the tiger; Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood, Disguise fair nature with hard-favour'd rage; Then lend the eye a terrible aspect; Let it pry through the portage of the head Like the brass cannon; let the brow o'erwhelm it As fearfully as does a galled rock O'erhang and jutty his confounded base, Swill'd with the wild and wasteful ocean."
(Henry V, Act IV, Scene iii)
THE STRUGGLE AGAINST TYRANNY GOES ON, AS IT HAS FROM TIMES IMMEMORIAL. THE BAND OF BROTHERS STILL STANDS FAST IN THE BREACH!
THEY HAVE OUR SIX!
Honor Them For Their Service And Sacrifice!

Cant Do Everything
March 18, 2013
Four-year-old Eliana was helping her mom pick up some of Elianas things before bedtime. When Mommy told her to put away the clothes on her bed, Eliana hit her limit. She turned around, put her little hands on her hips, and said, I cant do everything!
Do you ever feel that way with the tasks God has called you to do? Its easy to feel overwhelmed with church involvement, witnessing, and raising a family. We might sigh in exasperation and pray, Lord, I cant do everything!
Yet Gods instructions indicate that His expectations are not overwhelming. For instance, as we deal with others, He gives us this qualifier: As much as depends on you, live peaceably with all (Rom. 12:18). God understands our limitations. Or this: Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord (Col. 3:23). Hes not asking for perfection that we might impress people, but simply to honor Him with the work we do. And one more: Let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another (Gal. 6:4). We are not doing our work as a competition with others, but simply to carry our own load.
In wisdom, God has equipped us to do just what He wants us to doand thats certainly not everything!
He gives me work that I may seek His rest,
He gives me strength to meet the hardest test;
And as I walk in providential grace,
I find that joy goes with me, at Gods pace. Gustafson
When God gives an assignment, it comes with His enablement.

Red Hanrahans Song About Ireland
"The old brown thorn-trees break in two high over Cummen Strand,
Under a bitter black wind that blows from the left hand;
Our courage breaks like an old tree in a black wind and dies,
But we have hidden in our hearts the flame out of the eyes
Of Cathleen, the daughter of Houlihan.
The wind has bundled up the clouds high over Knocknarea,
And thrown the thunder on the stones for all that Maeve can say.
Angers that are like noisy clouds have set our hearts abeat;
But we have all bent low and low and kissed the quiet feet
Of Cathleen, the daughter of Houlihan.
The yellow pool has overflowed high up on Clooth-na-Bare,
For the wet winds are blowing out of the clinging air;
Like heavy flooded waters our bodies and our blood;
But purer than a tall candle before the Holy Rood
Is Cathleen, the daughter of Houlihan."
A Poem by William Butler Yeats

FRiends, the chronicle of Major Wermuth's imprisonment brings to mind thoughts that have lain dormant for many a year. General Eisenhower described our campaign in Europe as a "Crusade" - and with good reason. The Japanese were, in my opinion, a far more brutal foe than the Germans in WWII.
Several years ago, I read "Flags Of Our Fathers" by James Bradley, son of the Navy Corpsman who participated in the Flag Raising on Mt. Suribachi. His observations on the barbarity of the Japanese at war were chilling.
Many instances of that brutality have been common knowledge for decades. Yet the Japanese seem not to have confronted this facet of their history. Americans wallow in guilt over the A-Bomb on Hiroshima, an ethical albeit severe stroke to end the war, yet the Japanese have never answered for their repeated atrocities from the Rape of Nanking through the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Bataan Death March, and countless instances of violations of the Geneva Convention in their treatment of POW's. Additionally, they refuse to address the use of civilian prisoners, such as nurses and nuns, as sex-slaves.
I personally have nothing against the Japanese - I just think that it is ironic that we Americans are made to feel guilt for acts that were not wrong while they will not acknowledge guilt for their routine and habitual acts of barbarism.
End of rant.

Spent the night...breathing “good”, but by early morning, much more shallow. Then breathing improved in the evening. I went home about 9:30 to shower, eat, and sleep in a bed...mine. Called back to hospice at 10:30pm. Here now, holding his hand and sending everyone’s prayers and “to let go and let God” guide him Home.
Fever and occasional apnea....please pray for his peace and that Our Lord takes him home soon.

Good morning, Canteen.
Good morning to our
Thank you, Star and Connie Girl,
for preparing the Canteen for todays activities.
All I can say after the tribute to Arthur Wermuth
is that "if it's not your time, it's just not your time."
God, my heart aches for the American pilots
who dropped the bombs on the prisoner ship...
especially after they found out it was fellow Americans on board.
Hope God was able to give them peace.
And a special place in Heaven.
