Drummond: A community under siege by crime
The Oakland Tribune ^ | 03/16/2013 | Tammerlin Drummond

Gorgeous, spacious three-bedroom homes in the $300,000-range. Quiet streets where kids could safely ride their bicycles. Not way out in the boonies, but in Oakland -- just a few minutes from BART, the Coliseum and the airport.

Arcadia Park, a planned development built by Pulte Homes in 2010, seemed like a dream come true for working people who didn't earn six-figure salaries and were priced out of most Oakland neighborhoods. There was just one catch: It was in Deep East Oakland, a high-crime area designated by Oakland police as a "hot spot" and Border Brothers gang territory.

Yet at those affordable prices, coupled with incentives from the builder, some people of a more adventurous nature were willing

to be urban pioneers.

At some point, some urban areas will become free fire zones, citizens will just take out the trash, and no one will make much effort to catch them.

That whole "I didn't see nuthin" thing can work both ways, you know.

I don’t care how nice the neighborhood looks from the outside... if its right next to an animal park, living there is probably not a good idea.

Libtard, multi-kulti, multi-racial Big Sh&ty areas have no future.

Some things just can’t exist.

America must once again become a nation of self regulating citizens willing to live within the confines of the Constitution or we lose the Republic.

A community under siege by crime

A community under siege by Liberal Socialist government employee accessories before and after the fact, and enablers.

Efff the law.

Well..here in Ct we gun owners are about to become criminals. Previously law abiding citizens will be going to jail. Tough choice.

Shows you how much you know, which means you know nothing about CA gun laws. Getting a gun is easy if you pass the background checks. Getting a CCW is not if you live in certain areas, in some areas it is very easy to get a CCW, I happen to have one, my brother had one when he was alive and many of my friends have them. The county we live in is a Pro-gun county, very conservative as is Eldorado County and Calaveras county.

My house is awash in firearms, or it was until that boating accident that many of us FReepers were involved in.

Yep, there are many onerous laws in CA about firearms but getting one isn't a problem. We are not NY city.

Sometimes those real estate bets by urban pioneers have paid off well since populations tend to be migrating into the city and out of the suburbs and rural areas. Will Oakland become more like San Francisco or Detroit? Over the long haul I’d think Oakland real estate will rise but there’s always two sides to every trade.

“At some point, some urban areas will become free fire zones, citizens will just take out the trash, and no one will make much effort to catch them.”

It is difficult to beat people who have nothing but time; when “normal” people have to work every day, there is a swarm of parasites waiting to loot you home.

Cities are trying to entice whites and businesses back to urban areas in NJ, with little success. Everyone knows the danger they would be in, they know the police are politically forbidden to take out the trash, and their murder at the hands of the thugs will be buried in the news to maintain the illusion of safe cities.
