Tribal programs under the U.S. Department of Interior and the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs that fund human services, law enforcement, schools, economic development and natural resources stand to lose almost $130 million under the cuts, according to the National Congress of American Indians.

No offense but the tribes piss away money given to them like you would not believe. Their leadership is like dictator African countries. Bad here, and bad in Canada. It’s a well-known problem. Accounting for it is essentially impossible, the recordkeeping is so bad.

Do we really still need a Bureau of Indian Affairs?

Trivia question: How many federal agencies are responsible for Indian Reservations, other than the Bureau of Indian Affairs?

Answer; All total there are 17 (including BIA). Talk about over lapping duties and duplication of services.

The Indian Health Service is NOT under the BIA, but the U.S. Public Health Service and HHS. It’ll be fine.

As long as there are Indian treaties still in effect, and Reservations to administer under those treaties, the answer is yes.

Are the Native Americans citizens of the United States? Are they citizens of some foreign nation that exists within the borders of territories claimed by the United States?

If it is the former, then why are they not treated as equals of the rest of the citizens of the United States? If it is the latter, then why are they not expelled?

I have some experience with the reservation system and view it as a totally unjust system that encourages complete government dependence and eschews any efforts to make things better. It would be better if the system were disbanded and each tribe member living on them were given their own land.

They were. The reservations were divided up. The problem is that once you get rid of the reservation system and the BIA, then you have no means to bribe the Indians to each vote five times for the Democrats. Why, they might even become Republicans!
