Marco Rubio takes second place -
Sen. Rand Paul won the 2013 Washington Times-CPAC presidential preference straw poll Saturday, and Sen. Marco Rubio was a close second, easily outdistancing the rest of the field and signaling the rise of a new generation of conservative leaders who will take the Republican Party into the 2016 election.
Mr. Paul won 25 percent of the vote, and Mr. Rubio collected 23 percent. Former Sen. Rick Santorum was third with just 8 percent, New JerseyGov. Chris Christie who was not invited to speak at the three-day Conservative Political Action Conference was next with 7 percent, and Rep. Paul D. Ryan, the GOPs vice presidential nominee last year, was fifth with 6 percent.

Rand Paul demonstrates more common sense than any plausible candidate in 2016.
Imagine a country who has $17,000,000,000,000 national debt. That does not include $90,000,000,000,000 unfunded future liabilities in current law. This nation borrows money from China to keep spending because it has $1.15 Trillion budget deficits 4 years running average. But this country spends huge amounts on maintaining 750 military bases worldwide.
But the most idiotic action by this country is to spend borrowed money from China to protect oil supplies to China because China gets a huge amount of oil passing through the Straits of Hormuz.
I hope this stupid country is not mine, but sadly it is. Kudos to Rand for showing common sense to push an agenda to prevent national bankruptcy and robbing the kids.
In case you have not heard Cyprus was also drowning in debt. Guess what their government was forced to do yesterday...They confiscated cash from all persons with assets! Spain and Italy and Portugal won’t be far behind.
agree, Paul had his dads supporters and after him giving present to the homsoexuals for marriage and then the illegals I think he might be turning into his father
I am not surprised. Rand Paul speaks calmly, logically, and without throwing bombs. The liberal MSM is having trouble attacking Rand. But MSM has no problem attacking Cruz.
nah we all know that the libertarians who pretend to be republicans were there who support his father yet again were there.
H;es going the same way as his father which I had hoped he would not but after hearing hsi stance on marriage and immigration and next will it be get rid of the CIA, FBI have any kind of drugs legal .
He might be better polished than his dad and better spoken but i have a feeling that he and his father want the GOP ot change to their views and that is not going to happen for me.
GOPe pushed Romney in 2012. But Romney never crossed 30% threshold except perhaps in Utah until the nomination became obvious.
Bush or Christie can’t win in 2016 unless more conservative candidates fight among themselves like they did in 2012. If a united front is present with a single conservative candidate, he/she wins hands down.
Paul bots all drugged up were there as they are for his father.
CPAC is a joke and we all now these polls are nearly always won because of the paulbots and yet they can;t have their own libertarian primary, convention etc because they know they would get no where thus they infltrae our party and then want us to all change to their views
he;s very much more polished than his father and I had hoped he would turn into his nut case ather but after this week I;m not so sure.
Homosexuals got a present over marriage from him
Dr Paul has sure ticked off a lot of lib media-bots..
Paul Ryan should have beat Christie.
Agreed. What a joke.
Did you hear what Cyprus did? In case you did not, the government of Cyprus confiscated 10% from every citizen with assets over 100,000 euro’s, and 6.7% from EVERY ONE ELSE.
2008 financial fiasco was just a prelude to what is coming. The country has much bigger issues than homosexuals. Why do you think DHS purchased 1.5 Billion rounds of ammo recently?
Yeah right... They have to get passed Rand Paul in Iowa and New Hampshire first. Considering his dad has a huge organization in those states built up over 6 years I say good luck with that.
You are on target with my thinking. I loved Sarah’s speech because of its depth and Ted Cruz because of his knowledge of government and its proper role. It is notable that Ted Cruz came out and gave special recognition to Sarah before her speech.

Both Paul Ryan & Eric Cantor have said they will back increased background checks on firearms.
That would include gun shows and also private sales and private transfers.
That is infringing and registering - leading to banning and confiscation.
The Devil is in the details kiddies.
“We have to pass the bill to see what is in it!”
Grow up and smell the bullshit.

I think we have many problems and yes the turd pokers, the family and the children are one of them , just like illegals, border patrol, defence, drugs, debt
Sarah and Cruz and Rubio had great speeches, shame Sarah was turned on by republicans and so called conservatives but then again she;s not an elitist insider
Yes it can. They have to win Iowa and NH and get passed Rand and former Ron Paul supporters. We’re ready.
I think CPAC established that the era of the Republican moderates is over. The image of Rand Paul speaking (with help by 23 friends) for 13 hours while McCain and Graham ate Lobster Thermidor, filet of prime beef, Colorado lamb açaí, Maryland blue crab risotto, peanut butter crumble, heart of guana chocolate tart and iced Tahitian vanilla and praline bar with Zer0 at the Jefferson Hotel, was a watershed event. Attendees Wednesday night included John McCain, Tom Coburn, Bob Corker, Kelly Ayotte, Dan Coats, Richard Burr, Mike Johanns, Pat Toomey, Ron Johnson, John Hoeven, Saxby Chambliss, and Lindsey Graham. It showed what the Republican Party needs to do versus the failed ways of the past. It was politicians helping themselves at the government trough versus doing the people’s work.
I think I made myself hungry.
“The libertarians have been stuffing vote for this straw poll forever, Ron Paul won it how many times?”
BS. You don’t know what you are talking about. Ron Paul never won this poll. Reagan did. George W Bush did. And now Rand Paul.
It’s very unfortunate that people make up BS and post it here to misinform everybody else.
Ron won it twice, Romney won it 4 times.
Romney was the last nominee to win it...
It’s not a bad indicator.
