Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin delivered a barn-burning, hyper-folksy speech to conservative activists Saturday, bringing the entire audience to its feet multiple times.
Palins speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference started in an unconventional way: After she was first introduced, the crowd was shocked to see Texas Sen. Ted Cruz walk out onstage. Cruz said he was there to introduce Palin himself ahead of his keynote speech later in the afternoon.
The mainstream media wants us to be timid and hide in a corner. And the mainstream media is absolutely convinced that women cannot be conservatives, and if they are, they especially cannot shoot really big guns and hunt grizzly bears, Cruz said. Thats why Governor Sarah Palin drives the mainstream media batcrap crazy.
Cruz directly attributed his success to Palin, a key backer of his, saying: I would not be in the U.S. Senate today if it were not for Sarah Palin.
When Palin herself entered, the entire crowd surged for the first of many times. Palin waved energetically as she was welcomed, then immediately thanked Cruz.
The senator is the keynote speaker and he would lower himself to do an introduction for a hockey mom from Wasilla, Palin said in faux-wonder. Ted Cruz, he chews barbed wire, he spits out rust. Thats what we need.
But Palin herself seemed to be in a chewing out mood, as well. She started off with the presidents recent attempts to restrict gun owner rights.
That chunk of metal did the crime? Thats like saying, that fork made me fat, Palin joked about the idea that guns are responsible for violence. Background checks? Dandy idea, Mr. President. Shouldve started with yours.
Palin wasnt close to finished. She moved on to attack the calls for rebranding of the Republican Party.
Lets be clear about one thing: Were not here to rebrand the party. Were here to rebuild a country, Palin said. Were not here to dedicate ourselves to new talking points coming from DC. Were not here to put a fresh coat of rhetorical point on our party Were here to restore America, and the rest is just theatrics. The rest is sound and fury. Its just noise. And that sums up the job President Obama does today.
At one point, Palin reached under the podium and pulled out a Big Gulp and began drinking from it onstage. The action itself bringing large sections of the crowd to its feet.
But the bulk of Palins speech was devoted to blasting the Washington and GOP establishment, including a not-so-veiled jab at Republican architect strategist Karl Rove.
If you dont have a team of lobbyists in D.C. or a canceled contribution check, well, youre not at the table. Youre on the menu, she said. The last thing we need is Washington, D.C. vetting our candidates If we had one message to send to Washington, it would be this: Get over yourself. Its not about you.
But when Palin left the stage, for those few moments, it was all about her, leaving the audience roaring on its feet for several minutes straight.
—— She needs to create a message without all the oblique red neck humor.... -——
Her endorsement got Cruz elected, and how many other Tea Party candidates?
She has as good a batting average as anyone. She is the best at firing up the base. Now all we need to do is convince her to run.
Interesting thought.....Given the way the she's been piled upon by them- that it might have been a pre-emptive strike by the moss-covered wing of the Gop-e?
Did you noticed she didn’t seem to be reading from a teleprompter?
This and many lines about leadership, makes worthwhile listening to this again.
Sadly, instead of leadership, we have timidity on the part of the GOP in congress, except for a few individuals like Ted Cruz and Rand Paul.
Her instincts are exquisite Imagine what a fantastic RNC spokesperson she’d be? The left couldn’t help themselves but put her on. They would do everything they could to marginalize her but the constant exposure would lay bare their lies. She would resonate with a majority (silent) conservative country thirsting for leadership. It has been a desert for too long. And with the left? Well, she’d resonate there too ... like Slim Whitman did with the Martians!
I did notice. I’m sure there was one there, but she seemed unscripted for the most part. I’m sure she had a written speech and a transcript will show up at some point. She has such a natural way about her, it’s hard to tell if she is using a teleprompter even if she is!
I went there as a young man, on my own. Actually got a “tour” inside the Dome of the Rock. Lived on a Kibbutz for a couple of weeks up in the Golan region, got homesick, and left. Beautiful place. Misty blue mountains in the moonlight, Israeli jets flying overhead, a soldier on a bus expressing his pride in how they had transformed the country from a desert to a garden. Many wonderful memories.
Thanks for your comment #43.
Beautifully put!

I just want to go. It is beckoning me. I don’t want to only be there on Judgement Day.
However, only He knows all and perhaps I will be there before that Day of Reckoning.
I leave it in His Hands....which I’ve been doing a LOT lately.
Did you want her to give an Obama style State-Of-The-Union check list of detailed but empty promises to every identy group out there?
In only 30 minutes?
I think she did a good job of offering a some big ideas and general principles to guide conservatives in their conduct and governance.
Stick to conservative principles
Rebuild the middle class
There are no Hispanic issues, or African American issues, or womens issues. There are only American issues
Were not here to abandon our principles in a contest of government giveaways, thats a game well never ever win.
To add to varon’s response:
She only had 20-30 minutes, it’s not like she’s was gonna give a wonky dissertation....if you want that, go to CATO or Heritage.
CPAC is to rally the base and give direction.
Loved how Cruz gave props to Sarah. I call that another kudo to her conservative gravitas.
Let’s be honest, with the exception of Brietbart and Palin, who else in the conservative side has the onions to pull off that Big Gulp site gag?
Could you imagine Mitt doing that on the campaign trail? Ah heck no!!!!
Much like Brietbart, Palin “gets it” on the pop culture front. The GOPe thinks that a big-check ad campaign is all they need.
You give the GOPe wayyyyy to much credit on that one. They can’t even go to the latrine without GPS and instructions much less do that.
God had his reasons. 2010 and 2012 (senate and house) would of been different in some ways without her on the trail helping.
Trust is the Force my dear padawans.
Sarah rocked it at CPAC! She got the rack and Todd has the gun!
The GOP today wants one thing. Liberalism. We see it every time they capitulate. Bhoner, McCain, Mitch, Little Lord Lindsay all rush to the nearest microphone and cannot ‘moderate fast enough.
Anyone who still supports them is a fool, but also a danger to America. How can I say that? Simple. When one empowers the people helping to install liberalism in place of the constitution, they sure as hell are not defending the constitution.
People get all uberpatriot when I say that but too damn bad. People helping leftists are leftists regardless of who they play on Free Republic. Palin has a podium and a message. That message is well over 95% conservative. And NONE of the rest is outright contrary to traditional conservatism.
The other thread devolved into potshots at her ‘screechy/ditzy/valley girl” voice. Yet again we see a positive Palin thread derailed. NOTHING she says or how she says it can be allowed without some PDSer doing their best, in snide comments or ‘helpful suggestions’, to ensure people cannot coalesce around what she actually says.
Same xhit, different day.
bump!!!
Sarah’s “Rebuild the middle class” would have meant something if she added ‘by stop exporting their jobs’ or something specific. If she is just another Romney who wanted to skate by with ‘I know how to create jobs’, she adds nothing. Show us the beef.
Your ‘concern’ is noted.
