ULTRA-FOLKSY SARAH PALIN BRINGS CPAC AUDIENCE TO ITS FEET

by Mytheos Holt

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin delivered a barn-burning, hyper-folksy speech to conservative activists Saturday, bringing the entire audience to its feet multiple times.

Palin’s speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference started in an unconventional way: After she was first introduced, the crowd was shocked to see Texas Sen. Ted Cruz walk out onstage. Cruz said he was there to introduce Palin himself ahead of his keynote speech later in the afternoon.

“The mainstream media wants us to be timid and hide in a corner. And the mainstream media is absolutely convinced that women cannot be conservatives, and if they are, they especially cannot shoot really big guns and hunt grizzly bears,” Cruz said. “That’s why Governor Sarah Palin drives the mainstream media batcrap crazy.”

Cruz directly attributed his success to Palin, a key backer of his, saying: “I would not be in the U.S. Senate today if it were not for Sarah Palin.”

When Palin herself entered, the entire crowd surged for the first of many times. Palin waved energetically as she was welcomed, then immediately thanked Cruz.

“The senator is the keynote speaker and he would lower himself to do an introduction for a hockey mom from Wasilla,” Palin said in faux-wonder. “Ted Cruz, he chews barbed wire, he spits out rust. That’s what we need.”

But Palin herself seemed to be in a chewing out mood, as well. She started off with the president’s recent attempts to restrict gun owner rights.

“That chunk of metal did the crime? That’s like saying, ‘that fork made me fat,’” Palin joked about the idea that guns are responsible for violence. “Background checks? Dandy idea, Mr. President. Should’ve started with yours.”

Palin wasn’t close to finished. She moved on to attack the calls for “rebranding” of the Republican Party.

“Let’s be clear about one thing: We’re not here to rebrand the party. We’re here to rebuild a country,” Palin said. “We’re not here to dedicate ourselves to new talking points coming from DC. We’re not here to put a fresh coat of rhetorical point on our party…We’re here to restore America, and the rest is just theatrics. The rest is sound and fury. It’s just noise. And that sums up the job President Obama does today.”

At one point, Palin reached under the podium and pulled out a Big Gulp and began drinking from it onstage. The action itself bringing large sections of the crowd to its feet.

But the bulk of Palin’s speech was devoted to blasting the Washington and GOP establishment, including a not-so-veiled jab at Republican “architect” strategist Karl Rove.

“If you don’t have a team of lobbyists in D.C. or a canceled contribution check, well, you’re not at the table. You’re on the menu,” she said. “The last thing we need is Washington, D.C. vetting our candidates…If we had one message to send to Washington, it would be this: Get over yourself. It’s not about you.”

But when Palin left the stage, for those few moments, it was all about her, leaving the audience roaring on its feet for several minutes straight.

As mentioned, she’s the one with the rack.

She’s actually just doing what good leaders do. Reagan had big ideas, and a knack for getting them implemented. But many of the finest moments in his speeches are not droning policy diatribes, but make use of the power of aspiration, pointing us up to the lofty ideals and principles that drive the details of good policy.

Likewise, Sarah had that same knack for identifying and solving complex policy problems, as she did in Alaska. But when she’s on the national stage, she spends herself on getting good people back in the game, by reminding them why they are there. All good leaders do that.

Besides, those problems you listed are not the real problems we face. They are symptoms. The illness is deeper. We are a people who once loved our freedom and the principles that assure it, but that love has cooled, and been diluted and eroded by tens of thousands of poor choices. We now routinely kill our unborn babies, then wonder why our government wants to deny us the weapons we need to protect our own life. We celebrate the divorce of marriage from its historical and biological roots, then wonder why we are spending so much national treasure on repairing the enormous damage done by failing family structures. We promote a false version of liberty that is nothing more than hedonism repackaged, then wonder why our electorate can see no further than the Obamaphones they can vote to give themselves.

So no, we don’t need technicians describing clever solutions to complicated system problems. The solutions to the problems you listed are already set before us. The free market is a natural force. Stop interfering with it (whether by confiscatory taxes, regulatory suffocation, etc) and the jobs will create themselves. Our immigration issues could be solved overnight by a leader who actually believed that law and principle trumps politics. Wars do not ever end in your favor unless you have leadership determined to win, and the wisdom to discern what fights to avoid in the first place. Nation-building is a byproduct of globalist Marxist ideology, and would wither on the vine if we had leadership who understood their job as serving American interests first.

In short, none of the details of workable conservative policy are severe mysteries that we need some gifted politician to tell us about. We already know. And we know what the principles are that will lead to good, conservative policy. There are no secrets here. We just need somebody who embodies the principles that make for good policy, and who has demonstrated by their life they will lead us faithfully by the light of the “North Star of our Constitution,” and the natural law principles upon which that constitution is built.

The other thread devolved into potshots at her ‘screechy/ditzy/valley girl” voice. Yet again we see a positive Palin thread derailed. NOTHING she says or how she says it can be allowed without some PDSer doing their best, in snide comments or ‘helpful suggestions’, to ensure people cannot coalesce around what she actually says.

Amen to that.

It ALWAYS leads me to believe that they are probably unpaid/paid supporters of either some other candidate or the opposing party.

Don't expect ex-snook to either acknowledge or respond to your excellent observations. I don't think he's interested in having his mind changed by an objective discussion of the situation.

Some probably. But most of the time it’s people too stupid to care what they look like in public. I use the “Go make me a sammich” comments that PDSers use as exhibit 1.

When one of these idiots explains to me what exactly furthers the cause of conservatism with crap like that, the world may indeed end. So they either do it because they never left high school, or they really are the morons they present themselves to be.

All the articles focus on Palin’s various “attacks”. They totally miss the message.

Great pics. Thanks for posting. Sarah brilliantly said that Washington D.C., GOP-E, Bloomie - all of em', are One Big Joke! The big gulp, her folksy delivery, the hits on Obama, Rove, Bloomie - prefect. They are so full of themselves and lord over us in their arrogant condescending manner. Her zingers were right on and essentially there's no argument with them. Truth wins again! It echoes across America:

She is one of us!

Bears repeating:

"Paid commercials on black and spanish tv. Radio spots on the same, with a crystal clear message that Obama is a liar, and what destruction he intents to inflict, and how the working class poor are being used as pawns in a deadly political battle. Lay the cards out. Going straight for the Bamster’s core constituency would alarm him greatly, because it's a tactic he understands... e.g. community organizing."

Well said.
