Government Steering Americans Toward a Tele-Work, Tele-Shop, Mass-Transit Future
Cybercast News Service ^ | March 15, 2013 | Susan Jones

The Obama administration envisions a “low-carbon, low-petroleum” future where Americans tele-work, tele-shop, walk, bike and use carpools or mass transit if they must leave the neighborhood at all.

A study released Friday says the U.S. has the potential to reduce petroleum use and pollution in the transportation sector by more than 80 percent by 2050. In other words, gasoline-powered cars may go the way of the dinosaur, and many Americans may end up living in planned, mixed-use, “walkable” neighborhoods, built along mass transit lines. …

Higher densities (more people living in the same area in smaller homes), a mix of uses (shopping and other services) and walkable neighborhoods contribute to lower vehicle travel and energy use, the report says.

And to encourage “effective land use,” the report calls for expanded federal efforts to influence development through funding decisions. …

In Central Jersey, similar structures were maligned as the crime ridden “projects” (1960’s & ‘70’s)where indigents and welfare dependents resided. Most if not all of these structures have since been demolished in places like New Brunswick, Perth Amboy, etc. It was a bad idea then & now.

Private cars have long been a target of the socialist left because they allow unregulated mobility.

While banning cars outright is politically impossible, the plan of making them undesirable and unaffordable is right on track. Combine “safety” and “emission” goals with ever increasing fuel, licensing, and insurance costs and you have the path to extinction.

20 yrs from now, private cars will be pretty much affordable only by the top 5% or so. The only upside is there will be a major improvement in congestion.

When King BOZerO gets driven only with electric cars or natural gas planes then he’s believable. Otherwise file him under H -—hypocrite.

But do they have reliable internet service in Thailand?

And do you know the language?

If I had the opportunity I’d probably jump on it too.

Someone’s been playing SimCity too much. The problem with “walkable utopia” is that it requires bulldozing most of the towns in the America and convincing bosses that we can work from home. Oh, that and the whole “we like FREEDOM” thing. Aging Leftist Hippies should stick to pot and macrame and leave the adult things to people who do useful stuff.

Looks like they’re gonna have to kill me outright.

DHS has 5 bullets for every man, woman and child in the country. I'm sure they have enough for you.

Telecommuting and teleshopping will just allow me to move out of the suburbs onto a dozen acres (or more) in the boonies not a 500 square foot prison cell/apartment in the city. But that doesn't fit their plan for my life.

Who’s going to grow the tele-food they tele-eat and haul off their tele-garbage?

Why does the Genesis song, “Get “Em Out By Friday” suddenly come to mind:

This is an announcement from Genetic Control:
“It is my sad duty to inform you of a four foot restriction on
Humanoid height.”

Extract from conversation of Joe Ordinary in Local Puborama
“I hear the directors of Genetic Control have been buying all the
Properties that have recently been sold, taking risks oh so bold.
It’s said now that people will be shorter in height,
They can fit twice as many in the same building site.
(they say it’s alright),
Beginning with the tenants of the town of Harlow,
In the interest of humanity, they’ve been told they must go,
Told they must go-go-go-go.”

By implication, it also means: (1) the decline of conventional schooling as the Internet increasingly delivers education to children at home; and (2) parents, especially women, being more at home and closely supervising their children. These two trends would make for a strengthening of the family and of conservative cultural influences.

Doesn't account for official hypocrisy. They will have no problem spewing tons of carbon dioxide busing kids across town so they can be properly propagandized in person.

I know a few words, but a majority of them learn english in school.

When I had to go there for business they were the sweetest and nicest people I have ever met.

And you can get a 5 bedroom mansion for $40K (on the beach)

To a degree, but I think that, for compelling financial reasons, the teacher unions and the bureaucracy will downplay transportation and physical infrastructure in favor of keeping teachers on the payroll and well-paid, while imposing their ideology via a preferred “core ciriculum” with a comprehensive testing regimen.

The fallacy in this crappy plan is that the cities already take top prize for energy inefficiency and are getting worse all the time. The taxes paid by city dwellers are far higher than those in the country and energy costs are at the root of all costs. The difference is energy-sucking buildings full of energy sucking bureaucrats who impede economic progress and cause energy waste in many cases (although I suppose delaying the permitting of some activity might save energy temporarily).

Made from pieces of old mansions washed up after the tsunami.

Yeah, I suppose you are right. The ultimate “classroom” will be an overpaid teacher in his living room texting his/her students to which they will pay even less attention than they now do in class.

They built Soviet styled, concentrated housing projects in the cities in the 60’s and 70’s. It was an absolute death trap of poverty and misery.

Exactly true. Every one of them had multiple manifestations of “Alex and his droogs” from A Clockwork Orange . . . but with deadlier weapons and deadlier drugs.

Exactly. And cages are appropriate structures for those existing in the prison that is a planned socialist utopia. The Left wants to bring us Hell on Earth, “for our own good.”

So how do you evacuate residents if the lower floors are on fire?

Also, very convenient for housebreakers; a built-in ladder to get them up to the windows of any apartment they choose.
