I am extremely frustrated. Im angry. Im disappointed, said Debbie Kuidis, a retired Albuquerque Police Department deputy chief who has been lobbying for House Bill 77. What are they doing? Calm down, lady. They are probably finally coming to grips with the folly of this knee jerk distraction. The SJC Chairman is from Espanola in northern NM where they like their guns and way of life. In some ways its like the old wild west but with Spanish the predominant language. The area can be violent, law enforcement scarce, drugs and domestic disputes common and Anglos that don't speak Spanish not welcome. Rio Arriba County is the site of the famous Tierra Amarilla Courthouse Raid. Up there many believe guns are the only thing protecting them from the government.

Anglos should avoid buying property in northern NM for the same reasons - you run into some strange dynamics, especially with families that have "Land Grants" from the Spanish Crown that go back 400 years.

I’m not familiar with NM, but I know a guy from New Mexico who moved up here. I think his family was one of the old-timers. He’s normally a laid back guy, but he has a special dislike for Californians.
