On Thursday, the California State Senate passed the first in a spate of 30 gun control bills authored in the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting, which, taken together, have the potential to fundamentally alter gun ownership in the Golden State, Aaron Sankin of The Huffington Post reported.
The bill, authored by Senator Mark Leno (D-San Francisco) and passed in a largely bipartisan vote, would require a mandatory background check fee on all gun purchases, the report continued. The state would then use that money for a program that confiscates firearms from people who are no longer legally allowed to own them due to a criminal conviction, mental illness or court order.
A court order like a vindictive ex-significant other filing for a restraining order, among other things
? Isnt it curious how those who actually engage in threatening behavior against women are allowed to plea down and keep their guns if theyre on the right side of the gun control debate and have the right connections?

California’s reached critical mass, and Baby Bro’s looking to move, very reluctantly but he’s a gunsmith and therefore a marked man. I note the obvious: (1) pious assertions that the gun control process will never lead to confiscation were lies, and (2) California is, as it has been, a cultural bellwether that is leading the rest of the country into an outright police state.
Just ran across this interesting article:

“If they come for your guns, do you have a responsibility to fight?”
by Dean Garrison
Food for thought
>>I live in california, there is already universal background check and a fee, so whats the big deal? and taking guns from convicted criminals and the mentally ill, frankly, sounds like a pretty good idea.<<
Yes, why should the loss of freedom be such a big deal. Wear your chains lightly, o good citizen of Acirema.
The big deal? It’s just another TAX on fees for a law that violates unfettered Constitutional rights, that’s all....
Secondly, Universal background checks mean nothing unless they keep a data base. This is REGISTRATION, and registration is, frankly, just CONFISCATION not yet executed.
As far as the criminals/nuts thing and guns, that’s California’s business, I guess...however, to implement this, they are using a database of the entire gun owning population to do it. And, THAT is what I have a big, big problem with.
Wait and see when LA or SF gets the big one! Mother of All Quakes. When the guard and LEOs are out confiscating your legally owned guns instead of finding and helping victims, you’ll think twice about it, but it will be too late
The state would then use that money for a program that confiscates firearms from people who are no longer legally allowed to own them due to a criminal conviction, mental illness or court order.
Why couldn’t some lefty judge degree that all firearms are to be confiscated? Judges have been making laws for years.
you sound like a liberal
we are losing are freedoms everyday as government grows and gets more responsibilities and you are ok with that and want to give them more power , to determine who is insane and then give them power to come to our house to take away our guns, our property?
I want the government to leave us alone
The threat and the only real problems are the media and gov
There are a million fake crisis and a million fake threats the media and gov will come up to get people to say “ we ought to do something about that “ , then the government gets an additional power.Even if it WERE a real threat a government agency won't be accountable or able to fix it. socialism doesn't work.

Just wait ‘till “mental illness” is defined as posting on a conservative, racist, tea-bagger, right-wing, gun-nut-militia web forum.
Think that can’t happen here? Think again.
bump for later reading
You sound like a liberal,
Yes, beebuster2000 does sound very much like a liberal; it appears that he must have been indoctrinated pretty good by the media out there in California.
You’ll be determined mentally ill if you voted Republican for any local, state or national election within the past 15 years.
It is practically standard practice for a divorcing wife to get a restraining order against the husband to deny contact between him and the children during the divorce or say that he was abusive and get a domestic violence restraining order. Now he loses his guns, because she played the victim in divorce court.
there is no gun registration in california, i dont know where you got that from.
when you buy a gun they swipe your licence for the fed check, it comes back right away ok, then the purchase is done. 10 days later for long guns, 15 for handguns, you come back and pick up the gun. a pain, but frankly not the end of the world.
they dont keep a data base. its not even a state program its the fed program.
they define mentally ill as institutionalized after a diagnosis of mental illness.
frankly i am ok with keeping guns from anyone who has been in a mental hospital. arent you?
i dont trust government. just saying the program is in place now and it aint that big a deal. the waiting period is a stupid pain but its not the end of the world.
plus, i do think they need to keep people who have been diagnozed and institutionalized for mental illness, or conviscted felons away from guns.
Then how by God, are they correlating these databases?
They are tracking these people down somehow.
