U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan has announced the appointment of David J. Johns as executive director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans. Mr. Johns’ duties will focus on improving the academic performance of black students, promoting understanding and tolerance among all Americans, as well as reducing “racial isolation and resegregation of elementary and secondary schools.” According to the president’s executive order last summer, this new position is part of an initiative to help “strengthen the Nation by improving educational outcomes for African Americans of all ages, and to help ensure that all African Americans

Isn’t this racial profiling by the Federal Government ?
I thought that discrimination by race , gender , etc., etc., was illegal by Federal decree
We all can acknowledge that urban education has been a failure,
even NYC shcools are graduating high school seniors, 80% of whom cant even read.
Wonder how much the “job” pays?
Why just blacks? What’s so special or inferior about them that they need government sponsored discrimination against everyone else so blacks can succeed?
Seems this country is replete with countless minority groups who start at the bottom and WORK their way up in society. One group however seems destined to live on the government plantation and play the race card for their lot in life.
I’m playing the BS card on them.
If people from other countries, with other languages and even other alphabets can find a way to succeed in the FORMER land of opportunity, then people who are born here, have never been slaves, speak English (well sort of) should have a good running start on all the other minorities.
Noooooooooo, the race pimps in the Klan With A Tan and the communist party (aka democrats) want them all to FEEL oppressed and kept out of the opportunity super highway.
If this is what this country is going to look like with minority rule then we are in for a long dark period in our nation’s history. I can see the entire country looking like Detroit.
Maybe, because of all their time on the government plantation, they are not ready for prime time. Certainly our current president is not.
Before the Civil Rights act and forced busing, test scores between the races were nearly identical.
This thread is starting to sound like “Harrison Bergernon”. Or that the government wants to mandate equality in that manner.
Perhaps the new Black Education czar can get Eric Holder’s people to get married before having children and show those children the model of a father and mother working for a living instead of sponging off someone else. Many children have no idea what working for a living is, so they don’t see the need for an education. He could also install a government bedtime, dress code and instruction in the English language for students who need all three.

I’m not the brightest bulb, but it sure seems like we’re ready to set education back about 50 years. No Child Left Behind = No One gets Ahead. Get ready to rip up those vouchers and shutter those “ nasty, racist” magnet schools.
Helping to ensure that African American children have fathers rather than 'baby daddys' would help the most.
Lol, after teaching in Jackson Mississippi for 3 years, you recognize the reason that there are no whites in Jackson Public School is because they ALL have moved. There is no way to prevent “resegregation.”
