Appearing on CNN's The Situation Room With Wolf Blitzer on March 11, Mark Kelly said he planned from the start to hand over an AR-15 rifle he purchased to the Tuscon Police Department.
Blitzer then quoted a section from the March 9 Breitbart News story on Kelly's purchase, and asked Kelly to respond.
Here's what Blitzer read:
Breitbart News then began investigating the details surrounding the purchase, including visiting the gun store. Suddenly, Kelly announced on his Facebook page that he was not going to keep the AR-15, which he has yet to pick up from the store.
Kelly responded that he went into the gun store with a plan to buy a .45, "and if we had the opportunity, to buy the AR-15 as well." He said he didn't "know the timing," but he and his people "had a plan for when [they] were going to announce it on Facebook."
Attention to this issue has been intense, because Kelly bought the AR-15 on March 5 but did not announce that he was turning it over to Tucson PD until three days later.

Roger that. Balls, no brains.
He probably didn't have enough cash with him, and didn't want his credit card records to show the purchase.
“.....he and his people...... “
Whites?
No - commies.
My guess is that he was going to have it modified in some way or cleaned up. Things that you don’t normally have done when you plan on trading the gun in to the police ;)

1.6 Billion Rounds Of Ammo For Homeland Security?
It’s Time For A National Conversation
“At 15 million rounds (which, in itself, is pretty extraordinary and sounds more like fun target-shooting-at-taxpayer-expense than a sensible training exercise) thats a stockpile that would last DHS over a century. To claim that its to get a low price for a ridiculously wasteful amount is an argument that could only fool a career civil servant.”
Isn’t it illegal to purchase a gun with the intention of giving it to someone else?
Like the major news network that gave a “ringer” several thousand dollars to go to a gun show and buy guns.
Then they showed the brand new guns on their news program, and smugly said that the brand new guns would “be turned over to the police to be destroyed.”
So he went in to buy the .45 and an AR-15 if he had the opportunity?
That’s funny. When he was first busted he said that he saw the AR-15 on the way out and decided to buy that, too.
Nice try, idiot.
What I find truly stupid about this whole thing is that I think his decision to buy the guns is a relatively sound one. He and his wife are public figures. They have money. They are probably getting threats and protecting themselves is the smartest thing they could do.
So what was he trying to ‘prove’?
- That the system works and that a law-abiding citizen can purchase a gun?
- That all the whining about background checks really isn’t such a big deal anymore and that it’s a relatively painless and quick process?
- That a former ASTRONAUT who’s probably passed some of the most rigorous background checks that our gov’t can come up with is also trusted to buy a gun?
If HE had a history of mental illness or a criminal record and was allowed to buy the gun anyway, then he’d be making a valid point.
Then she crossed state lines into another state and bought her son a “sniper rifle” for Christmas.
I don’t know about whether astronauts can be trusted with a gun. IIRC they have a higher incidence of psychotic behavior (that one who drove from TX to FL to take out a romantic rival) than military veterans (who can’t be trusted either, according to DiFi) do ...
This reminds me of that program, "To Catch a Predator" when a number of those caught tried to lie that they were just there to teach the young girl or boy a lesson, or to protect them from predators.
Oh, man.... we’ve got this ALL WRONG!
He just revealed a massive flaw in the system.
The background check failed to recognize that he’s a liberal whack-a-doodle with no common sense who cann’t be trusted to wipe his own butt, let alone hold a loaded gun.
I finally see his point. “I’m a liberal and thus too stupid to own a gun. But they let me have one anyway. And a BLACK one, at that!”
We need to fix this right away. I suggest that we get a copy of voting patterns and FB posts with every background check.
It makes sense that he’d be involved in a anti-second amendment media stunt of turning in his guns (which he purchased for the event) to the police.
On the other hand, if my wife was shot in the head like his was, I would want to be armed. As is the case with limo-liberals, they advocate for the rights of the collective’s “masses” to be taken away - not their own rights!
This guy is so full of it that his eyes are brown. He went in their to purchase an AR15 because he is one of elite and he should be allowed to own one while the peasants are not entitled to the same.
If he ordered the rifle through a police distributor it was probably backordered and he will not get it for quite a long time. The distributor I usually deal with is accepting backorders for AR-15s, but they say it may take up to a year to get them. I have seen a few new lower end ARs available for immediate purchase, but the high end Colt, Daniel Defense, LMT’s, LWRCs, etc. are a year behind in demand.
Does anybody know the model of AR15 Kelly purchased and when he was supposed to get it?
Its tough getting busted being a hypocrite.
The questions that Wolf Blitzer should have asked Mark Kelly,
“What were you planning to learn about the process of buying an AR-15 rifle that you didn’t already know?”
“If your plan all along was to turn the gun over to the local police, why are you having the gunsmith at the store modifiy it according to your specifications?”
So he goes on TV and Publicly Admits to a FELONY?? Why Hasn’t he been arrested yet?? It is a Felony to Purchase a firearm under false pretenses.
Yeah, I’m sure Dupnik and the rest of the Pima County Sheriff’s Department is on the way with the warrant as we speak. Nobody has ever used their connections to get Dupnik to look the other way.
Oh, wait....
Liar. Off topic but did you know she is getting the JFK medal of freedom or some such thing? They named a ship after her as well didn’t they?
