~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska

Offutt Air Force Base (Offutt AFB) is a U.S. Air Force installation near Omaha in Sarpy County, Nebraska. It is the headquarters of the U.S. Strategic Command, the Air Force Weather Agency, and the 55th Wing. Its legacy includes the construction of the first two bombers to drop atomic bombs and nearly 30 years as the aerial command center for the U.S. in case of nuclear war during the Cold War.

Offutt’s diverse missions and global responsibilities put it on the cutting edge of the Air Force’s transformation. Each branch of the US military is represented among the approximately 12,000 military and federal employees assigned here. Offutt is a beautiful community situated near the Missouri River in the rolling hills of southeastern Nebraska.

Air Combat Command is the primary force provider of combat airpower to America's warfighting commands. To support global implementation of national security strategy, ACC operates fighter, bomber, reconnaissance, battle-management and electronic-combat aircraft. It also provides command, control, communications and intelligence systems, and conducts global information operations.

As a force provider, ACC organizes, trains, equips and maintains combat-ready forces for rapid deployment and employment while ensuring strategic air defense forces are ready to meet the challenges of peacetime air sovereignty and wartime air defense.

ACC numbered air forces provide the air component to U.S. Central and Southern Commands with Headquarters ACC serving as the air component to U.S. Northern and Joint Forces Commands. ACC also augments forces to U.S. European, Pacific and Strategic Commands.

The Strategic Air & Space Museum is regarded as the nation's foremost facility of its kind, the $29.5 million museum opened on May 16, 1998, and preserves aircraft and missiles for future generations. The Museum is a 300,000 square foot building that features a glass atrium, two aircraft display hangars, a traveling exhibit area, a children's interactive gallery, a 200-seat theater, a Museum store, an aircraft restoration gallery, and a snack bar. Prayers for your dad and your family. This is a tough time for you all and you have my heart.

One of my BILs, was way too young when diagnosed with cancer and he was moved to Mass. General’s Paliative Care Unit and we discovered what a wonderful concept it is. They were exceedingly accommodating and kind. You made the perfect choice.

(((HUGS!!)))
XOXOXOXOXOX

Oh,Ma...
*HUG*
My heart goes out to you.
Everything you are now going through,
I went through with my own Poppa.

I really, honestly DO know how you feel.
I read something really beautiful today, it goes like this:

“Life is too short to wake up with regrets.
So love the people who treat you right.
Love the ones who don’t,
just because you can.

Believe everything happens for a reason.
If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands!
If it changes your life, let it!

Kiss slowly.
Forgive quickly.
God never said life would be easy..
He just promised it would be worth it”

Love and hugs,
Ms.B

So sorry to hear of your father’s decline. But rest assured you have made the right decision. My mother has already made that decision for herself, and we WILL respect her wishes.

Dad passed away rather unexpectedly, but was already deep into Alzheimer’s, so no such decision was required. We were thankful that he was in “the home” less than 3 weeks.

Been in that building. Three times I think. Once as an engineering student, once as an AFROTC cadet, and once as a 1st Lt. Got a really good look at the underground command post the two times I was in uniform. The last time as a “guest” of my AFROTC buddy, who regularly gave intelligence briefings there.

I'm sure it's all different now, but the building looks the same from the outside. Different missile out front though.

I was stationed at Offutt AFB in the 1980s as an Airborne Command Post Communications Equipment Repairman.

Thanks for bringing back some memories! I would say, “Good times,” but I’d be lying. The cold winters really sucked. And, tornado season was just plain wicked.

I was working in an EC-135 on the flight-line one day when it started rocking and rolling. Afterwards, I climbed down the hatch and looked around. Our plane was about 50 feet from where it had been and all the other planes on the flight-line were all cattywompus, too. Turns out, a small tornado had walked right down the center of the flight-line! [nervous LOL] Funny thing was, not a single plane was damaged. Go figure!

Anyway, thank goodness I eventually got sent to Hickam AFB, Hawaii! Now, those were REALLY some good times!

Cheers!

note. Talk soon I hope...I’ve missed ya!

(((hugs)))...and nighty-night. Please get rest! Well, you
know the drill, huh!
