STATE COLLEGE Penn State trustee Paul Suhey admits relieving Joe Paterno of his head coaching duties in November 2011 over a late-night phone call was not the right tact.
Stephanie Deviney, another trustee, is certain the whole board feels that way.
We apologize, we screwed it up as far as how we delivered the message, Suhey said Friday in an interview. Our decision, were not going to go back on. But we messed that up big time.
People are still so hurt by that, and you know, damn it, we screwed it up.
The Paterno decision will go down in the annals as the trigger of when Penn State alumni and diehard fans turned against the board, and the anger has not relented. They email the trustees, write letters even call them out in advertisements in this newspaper.
But, four trustees, in an interview with the Centre Daily Times editorial board, said they are committed to turning the corner, opening up and building on the progress the university has already seen in responding in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky abuse scandal. The trustees Suhey, Deviney, board Chairman Keith Masser and Paul Silvis said they hope the university community will meet them in the middle as part of moving forward.

The trustees say they did not fire Paterno, thought they stood behind it as the right decision given the details of the presentment.
We retired him three weeks early, Suhey said...

Do you see how far these Jopologists have to parse -- even as the Freeh report says that Paterno also knew about one of the 1998 abuses?
This is what it means where their god has been gored.
You & Lancy & Fred are fully creeping me out even as you creepers manage to turn convos toward the ACTUAL sexual abuse of REAL children to the phantasy IMAGINED sexual abuse or me or others around me.
You guys are fully immorally sick and need to repent before God.
So then all the men and women on the Sandusky jury were "child molester apologists"???
as well as all the lawyers, jurists, and others who wrote the laws that made such distinctions???
You should stop before digging your hole any deeper.
Self fulfilling alumni tool to show that there is/was nothing wrong.
Don’t point to a document as proof that nothing happened when the parties involved refuse to talk.
DUH!!
You're finally demonstrating an IQ over 65. If you ever make it up to "mild retard" you'll figure out that it wasn't "Penn Staters" who "could see so much", it was Sandusky's family, friends, and Second Mile associates. But probably the main reason Sandusky remained on the loose was because, after the 1998 "wet head" incident (the one the cops knew about), it took until 2008 for another victim to finally come forward and make a real accusation.
But no... it's all Joe Paterno's fault.
Beat it, you mouse.
#2: Is Sandusky a sexually-abusive felon? (Yup)
#3: Did Paterno have ample knowledge along these lines over a decade ago? (Yup)
#4: Your jopologetics -- or rAPOLOGIES -- doesn't change any of these as FACTS, now do they?
But, you see, in State College, it NEVER goes away.
When you go to the local newspaper there -- the CentreDaily Times -- where most newspapers only have Topical Banners like...
16 months later -- since the scandal broke -- and the
I've consistently said that the best you can say of Paterno is he did the bare minimum to deal with this horrible situation (even he admitted that before he died). The worst you can say is that he knew and shielded the program from harm in order to justify his life of coaching (the position of the Freeh report and the NCAA). None of us know which of these is more true or where the truth fully lies.
Even the best way to look at this shows a deep flaw in Paterno. If the truth actually is that he was simply too busy, too fixated with his coaching to deal with this issue that his coworker and friend may have been a pedophile, that in itself is simply wrong. If the truth is that he didn't deal with the issue to shield the program and his coaching legacy it's more than horrible.
Now, none of us know what's true between these two positions, the truth is likely between the two but none of us know or will know what's true.
Joe Paterno is dead. He can't be tried. To hate him is silly, but to defend the indefensible as if Saint Joe was wholly correct in what he did (and didn't do) in this situation as some here are doing is simply disgusting.
And you’re a liar.
Because they didn’t, you mouse.
The BOT commissioned a study while there were still pending trials; thus, they knew perfectly well there would be no new information forthcoming, except what was already University property.
Unfortunately for you and the other PSU/Paterno haters, in the two million [plus] emails and thousands of staff documents and notes, they found only one email the might reference Joe Paterno. And that document doesn't refer to anyone by name, only to "Coach." But no one called Paterno "Coach." Paterno was known around the University as "Joe," and the "Coach" referred to as being concerned about the investigation is almost certainly not Paterno. It is Sandusky.
So the BOT commissions a study which is designed to find nothing. They find nothing. That doesn't stop them from issuing broad indictments and nasty editorials, and hateful sheep like you eat it up.
clearly deluded into believing he couldn't possibly have known a thing
Nope. Never said that. What I've said is nothing has ever been proven against Paterno, and most of the evidence we have goes to exculpating him. You all are determined to slime him without any evidence. Why?
expose a coworker and friend as the pedophile he was.
Two more lies, and I've already corrected you on this, so it isn't that you're stupid, it's just that you're a malicious liar, like The Coliform: they weren't friends. And at the time of the incident you care so much about, they weren't coworkers.
he did the bare minimum to deal with this horrible situation (even he admitted that before he died)
Nope. Another lie. He never said any such thing. He said, "in hindsight, I wish I'd done more." That doesn't mean he felt he did the bare minimum, and your statement is really revealed for the disgusting falsehood it is when placed in context, because, in the same interview, Paterno said, "He [Sandusky] fooled everyone." Taken together they imply that IF Paterno had the benefit of knowing then what we know now, he would have done more. But by all means, keep pretending he supports you and the other disgusting liars trying to trash him.
his coworker and friend may have been a pedophile
Again: They weren't coworkers during the time this discovery was made, and they weren't friends either before or after.
STOP telling these two lies.
but to defend the indefensible as if Saint Joe was wholly correct in what he did (and didn't do) in this situation as some here are doing is simply disgusting.
No, what is disgusting is the PSU/Paterno haters -- of which you are clearly one, since you keep repeating the same lies over and over, just like your pal The Coliform, is that people who are not the least conversant with the facts in the case accuse Paterno of being an enabler. There is no evidence of that, and in fact the evidence available points toward the opposite conclusion.
Why would an accusation from a psychotic defender of child molesters bother me? You are disgusting!
The Freeh report deliberately misidentifies the subject of a 1998 email to support the laughable conclusion that Paterno knew about the 1998 incident. This claim has already been demolished. But by all means, keep lying, mouse.
Nobody is defending “child molesters.” So, this is just another of your lies. I don’t expect better of you. You’re a liar.
You are. You are a liar. Child endangerment is a 3rd degree FELONY! You are pathetic.
But, as I pointed out, Sandusky was not convicted of that count; your claim that Paterno failed to report a felony, like most of the rest of your hogwash about him, is simply untrue.
You’re a pathetic, disgusting liar. Sandusky was convicted on three counts in the case of victim #6. Child endangerment is a class 3 felony. Your mindless bullsh*t is the same type of thing that allowed Sandusky freedom to sexually abuse minors for all those years.
No, you’re the liar. Your original statement contains three lies, to which you have not responded. Keep digging; the hole you’re in just keeps getting deeper.
Liar.
