Man Campaigning to Ban Assault Rifles Caught Buying Assault Rifle

By Daniel Greenfield

AR15? What AR15?

Mark Kelly may not yet be a household name, but he’s the better or worse half of Gabby Giffords, and together with her is the public face of Americans for Responsible Solutions, a PAC funded by a Texas lawyer to ban assault rifles.

On FOX, Kelly said, “In 1934, we banned automatic weapons. You know, I argue the semi-automatic assault weapon with a high capacity magazine is just too dangerous to be on the street where criminals and terrorists and the mentally ill can easily get them.”

Unfortunately Kelly was also caught buying one of weapons too dangerous to be in the hands of mere civilians.

Kelly reportedly bought the AR-15 and a 1911-style semi-automatic pistol at Diamondback Police Supply in Tucson, Arizona.

It’s not surprising that Kelly was turned in buying the dreaded weapon of doom. As gun ownership becomes like homosexuality in the 90s, coming out as an opponent also means that you may be outed if you combine that with a penchant for guns.

Naturally Kelly has tried to spin his purchase of the AR-15 as some sort of move to get them off the street, “As I was leaving, I noticed a used AR-15. Bought that too. Even to buy an assault weapon, the background check only takes a matter of minutes. I don’t have possession yet but I’ll be turning it over to the Tucson PD when I do.”

So apparently Kelly has a plan to buy up all the assault rifles in America and turn them over to the Tuscon PD. I think that’s a little like Ron Paul’s plan to end slavery.

It’s a little hard to believe that Kelly is running a one-man gun buyback program. It’s more likely that he got caught not practicing what he preached.

There’s nothing wrong with gun ownership, but Kelly now has a career being an anti-gun zealot. And to be an anti-gun zealot, you have to live your life gun-free.

There has been talk of Mark Kelly running for Giffords seat and that talk comes from liberal media outlets. To do that, he would have to squeeze out Ron Barber, the Democrat currently in there, but considering that Giffords’ district trended somewhat right, and that Barber, even with the cloak of being the aide of the saintly martyr Gabby Giffords who was also wounded in the shooting spree only won a narrow victory, it’s possible.

But Democrats may not be as enamored of him now after he got caught in flagrante delicto with an AR-15.

A bit of help, pls. I have not ever seen an AR-15. In what sense is it an assault rifle? Is it capable of fully automatic fire? Are mind games beging played for nefarious purpose?

No gun they are talking about is capable of full-auto fire. No gun covered by the Clinton AWB was capable of full-auto fire. All full-auto guns were regulated by the 1934 Firearms Act and further by the ‘68 and ‘86 Firearms Acts. They have never been called “assault weapons” in U.S. law either.

Doesn't sound like a person with good enough judgement to be trusted as an astronaut. Send him down to the SEIU office. They have good jobs for bone headed liberals. Something within the realm of his ability.

The reason most gunowners’ lips curl when we hear or read the term “assault rifle” is because it is a rhetorical device. An “assault” is a bad thing, right? And especially if committed with a rifle!
They say ‘pro-choice’ and we say ‘baby killers, as an example. These are civilian versions of military carbines, but are only semi-automatic.
But ‘carbine’ doesn’t sound as scary as ‘assault rifle.’ The military doesn’t call its fully automatic versions ‘assault rifles’ I’m guessing because it sounds too, well, German: stuhrmgewehr. The term had its genesis in ... California, but most of you probably knew that or guessed it: the home of screwballs like Senator Fineswine and this chrome-dome,
leading ineluctably to the question we’re all pondering: What color is this douche going to dye his head for Easter?

This guy is such a liar.

First, what's an anti-gun zealot doing in a gun shop?

Probably hoping to entrap some $10 an hour store clerk into making some kind of omission or error in the gun selling transaction.

Was he using recording devices?

Was he trying to talk the clerk into doing something illegal?

I'm sure the Hard Left MSM will be all over that angle.

Second, if he plans to turn the gun over to the Police, why bother with any paperwork.

Buy the gun, tell the store to deliver it to the TPD, end of story.

Again, this guy is deliberately lying for some reason.

Semi automatic rifle without cosmetic changes...

Semi automatic rifle with cosmetic changes

It's still the exact same rifle (still only one bullet fires at a time when you pull the trigger) with a few after market add on parts that simply make it look different!

It's like adding an after market spoiler package to a car.

The car's engine doesn't have more horsepower. The car just performs better on the road due to aerodynamic changes.

Are mind games beging played for nefarious purpose?
Of course they are! Plain and simple...disarmament is the aim and the goal!

Actually, a spoiler on a passenger car is just as much cosmetic as most of the "assault rifle" bling. A spoiler always adds drag. In a real race car there is usually enough horsepower to overcome this drag and take advantage of added down force to corner better. In a passenger car it only slows you down.

Yes.

The term “assault rifle” comes from the literal translation of the name given to the first weapon commonly accepted to fit the definition. The MP-44, or Sturmgewehr as it was dubbed by Adolf Hitler (literally “assault rifle” in German), was a rifle designed by the Nazis in 1944 that delivered the firepower of a machine gun in a man-portable sized package.

Machine guns are highly regulated as a result of the 1934 National Firearms Act and the Gun Control Act of 1968.

Guns like the Browning BAR and the Thompson submachinegun preceeded the MP-44, but the BAR is a fairly large/heavy weapon, and the Thompson shoots a pistol cartridge.

Somewhere in the range that makes you think it's a good idea to climb aboard a piece of 70's technology strapped to a huge thermos of explosive liquid that's covered with eco-friendly foam that peels off and damages your re-entry shield.

This c-sucker just continues the lie. Automatic firearms AREN’T “banned” - they’re just regulated and taxed heavily, and legal to own in 43 states if you can afford them.

But hey, I guess it’s OK for HIM to own an “assault rifle” because he’s a HERO...one of the “Onliest Ones” who is professional enough...

Oh, and Mr. Kelly, in case you didn’t know, Big Sis forever changed the name of them to Personal Defense Rifles when she purchased 7000 of them for DHS (at taxpayers expense).

F*** ‘im.

I’ll keep my Personal Defense Rifle, always. Regardless of what liberal asswipes want.
