The author is trying to use rational arguments against a conspiracy theory.

He stands no chance.

Conspiracy theories are indestructible. If we we ever get hit by a massive asteroid the only things that will survive will be cockroaches and conspiracy theories.

I suspect it has a lot more to do with covering our emperor arming someone overseas.

Well, just because I’m paranoid, doesn’t mean that they really aren’t out to get me.

As a Bircher, I got ridiculed for years. (Still do) “Oh, go put your tin foil hat on and sit in the corner! Stupid Bircher!”

Now, when all we predicted has come to pass, and we sit in the crumbling ruins of our once great nation, those same damn CONSERVATIVE fools who laughed at and impugned us, now sit and bleat “But Who Kneeww? Oh, Just who Kneww??”

Glenn Beck anyone? Rush Lintball? etc.

Senator McCarthy was lambasted for YEARS. He is still maligned today by our so-called CONSERVATIVE clowns who are so much smarter.

Hey, I remember when the Soviet Union finally collapsed and we got access to their classified records, we found that ALGER HISS REALLY WAS A FRIGGIN SPY AND MCCARTHY STRUCK TERROR INTO THE HEART OF THE KGB!

Don’t read about THAT conspiracy born out to be true, now do we.

The FACT is that the fedgov is on a massive buying spree for ammo, the local shelves are bare in my neck of the woods. And that damnable supply and demand thingee that pushes prices through the roof has kicked in. Box of .40 jacketed are in the ionosphere. That’s NOT a damn “tin foil hat conspiracy!” That’s FACT. Prove it to yourself, go down and see what’s left on the shelf!

I shouldn’t get so worked up. After all, I’ve been called “the tin foil hat crowd” by CONSERVATIVES for about 40 plus years.

The only thing that keeps my head up, is that I’ve EARNED the name “ENEMY” from the statists, collectivists, progressives and other SATANISTS.

And I’m proud of that achievement.

Re Governor Sarah Palin and “conspiracy theories” -

Stellar record governing, sticking her neck out confronting Obama, 2 books ˜fact-checked” to the hilt, 26,000 emails forced open, and an independently made movie - all show that Gov. Sarah Palin is a hard working, capable, incorruptible, servant of the people.

Gov. Palin has the truth on her side. The more that comes to light, the better for her. The exact opposite of the vast majority of politicians.

I hope she/we are not right about why the government is stockpiling weaponry and ammunition - but I’m afraid she/we are. God help us.

I am not sure that "conspiracy" is the correct term to be used here. For argument's sake, suppose the feds do have options planned in the event of civil disorder, which they actually do. Having those plans is not a conspiracy. How can it be a conspiracy? It's not even a secret. However, that there is no conspiracy certainly doesn't mean that the intentions toward us are not malevolent. Again, it's no secret, DHS has made it fairly obvious that it considers patriotic Constitutionalists to be a (the) threat to domestic peace.

That, and not fantasies about a plan to counter phantom civil unrest, is what should concern Americans.

I suggest that statement is correct and not correct at the same time. Sure the feds have plans for dealing with civil unrest, they have plans for all sorts of scenarios, including visits by aliens. The wonks hypothesize about anything that is within the realm of possibility and then plan on how it would be dealt with. However, there are a number of reasons to think that civil unrest in the US is a more real possibility than just "phantom civil unrest". There are a lot of variables in play that could easily fall into place and spark a load of "civil unrest".

But...the other things to which he refers are here and now real and they are very threatening to Americans.

Again, I don't think there is a "conspiracy" in the government to get us. IMO conspiracy implies that they are trying to hide their goals. They aren't. The feds have made it damn clear who they consider a threat in this country. The expansion of the use of surveillance drones on civilians on home soils is not a fantasy. The level of surveillance of all types is a pretty good indication of their attitude towards us. The obvious desire to disarm [law abiding] citizens real and not clandestine. They have also made it clear they consider the 2nd amendment to be an obstacle to federal power and the 4th amendment as another impediment. They are coming after the Bill of Rights, and that means in a very real sense they are coming after us. That is their intent.

Being cognizant of the nasty slippery slope presented by the federales words and actions is not paranoia. It is more of an understanding of the nature of statists.

Given that we're winding down in Afghanistan isn't it time we return to pre-9/11 security levels? Defund and eliminate the DHS. Return law enforcement duties back to the FBI and local law enforcement.

Most agencies don't need a police force and now local and state secretaries have police forces. What we see on the national level is repeated over and over again lower down.

Furthermore, even the police who are civilians call the people they protect “civilians”. They think of themselves as paramilitary. It's not a good move for a republic to have that many armed "guards".

I thought the survival of the cockroaches would be supplemented by the survivability of Keith Richards (Rolling Stone)

I doubt anything would kill that guy...;-)

The author is trying to use rational arguments against a conspiracy theory.

All government perpetrated mass genocides were preceded by a conspiracy theory.

Thank goodness the dead had you to pooh-pooh their fears instead of helping them prepare for the worse just in case.

To start with seven million dead Jews owe people like you their lives literally.

If we we ever get hit by a massive asteroid the only things that will survive will be cockroaches and conspiracy theories.

So there will be two camps. People like me in the conspiracy theorist camp and people like you in the other.

.
I saw nothing rational in the article; it was all misdirection, assumption, and outright falsehood. (typical National Review puke)

Conspiracies are rarely theory; its the only way that government knows how to do business.
