Security: In addition to stockpiling over a billion bullets and thousands of semiautomatic weapons the feds would deny U.S. citizens, the vehicle of choice for fighting the counterinsurgency war in Iraq is appearing on U.S. streets.
The sequestration question du jour is why the Department of Homeland Security, busy releasing hundreds, if not thousands, of deportable and detained illegal aliens due to budget constraints, is buying several thousand Mine Resistant Armored Protection (MRAP) vehicles?
And just who are they intended to be used against?
This acquisition comes on top of the recent news of the stockpiling by DHS of more than 1.6 billion (with a 'b') bullets of various calibers, enough by one calculation to fight the equivalent of a 24-year Iraq War, and the ordering of some 7,000 5.56x45mm NATO "personal defense weapons" (PDW) also known as "assault weapons" when owned by civilians.
Additionally, DHS is asking for 30 round magazines that "have a capacity to hold thirty (30) 5.56x45mm NATO rounds."
The Department of Homeland Security (through the U.S. Army Forces Command) recently retrofitted 2,717 of these MRAP vehicles for service on the streets of the U.S. They were formerly used for counterinsurgency in Iraq.
These vehicles are specifically designed to resist mines and ambush attacks. They use bulletproof windows and are designed to withstand small-arms fire, including smaller-caliber rifles such as a .223 Remington. Does DHS expect a counterinsurgency here?

You got that right. But still,, a domestic force that large has no place in America.

The conclusion that the 2,717 Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles are for the Department of Homeland Security is false. Instead, they are part of a contract award to the US Navy and will be subsequently used by the United States Marine Corps.
A search for M67854-07-D-5032 at the Federal Procurement Data System reveals that all contract under this number are for the United States Navy.
Why Obama, tell us why you need over 2700 armored vehicles. This is nonsense. You only need these to put down an uprising. Why would there be an uprising? What are you planning to do?
That might turn out to be fortunate if they end up being used to enforce unfortunate gun control laws.
Thats just shell games. A stoke of a pen could have them transferred from the USMC to DHS. They do it all the time. ATF got their former USMC OV-10 Broncos that way. Customs got a Cobra.
If anyone EVER says we are buying lots of shiny cool stuff for the USMC, just smile at the clown. They are even a little bitter that they actually have to feed the corps.
My mom was an operator, back in the 40s. Connected your call. When i heard guys first refer to themselves as that, i had to laugh.
The fact remains that the procurement is for the USMC and the the story was reported incorrectly, but eagerly lapped up by conspiracy kooks.
They cause Global Warming.
Exactly right —because of Posse Comitatus considerations, at Waco the guv had to cook up BS in order to get the really heavy MILITARY weaponry and training involved in Texas;
They advanced the claim that in addition to dealing fully-automatic machine-guns and BEATING BABIES that they also were big-time DRUG DEALERS.
So THIS way, the next time the guv wants to do a massacre, the cops will ALREADY have all this gear, and then they’ll simply say, “Go do it” and won’t have to resort to exotic lies.
Papa Doc comes to the US........illegals, black nationals, muslims and the entire prison population will be freed and immediatley indoctrinated into the national security force bypassing most of the military who will not obey.

Why is the Marine Corps buying more MRAPs when they have been in the process of cutting their MRAP fleet for the last year? I know for a fact that the Marine Corps wants less in the MRAP department than more.
1. Empire Building. Someone wants to expand their empire.
2. It’s a start. Meaning, these are just the beginning. We have never had a need for such vehicles before but while this nation is broke someone is buying expensive vehicles. That tells me this is not just empire building but targeted with a purpose.
3. Someone has their use in mind.
DHS now stands for Department of Hussein’s Security.
Those guys need to be de-funded.
“These vehicles are specifically designed to resist mines and ambush attacks.”
How well do they resist old fashioned fire?
From firsthand experience an RPG hitting the turret ring will blow the gunner off and rip him in half. Happened in 2008 in Iraq.
