It is not without a bit of irony that, in the 40 years since the explosion of the Watergate story, Bob Woodward would again be under attack from the White House for trying to tell the truth. But this time the attack is coming from a Democrat.
While Barack Obama may not share the Nixon pedigree, he and his White House are the closest thing to the Nixon regime of any that we have seen since then -- both in the extent of their paranoia and their willingness to suppress the truth and push the boundaries of law.
In my lifetime, in over 40 years in national politics, Mr. Obama is the only president who comes close to rivaling Richard Nixon for fundamental disingenuousness.

Nixon was not impeached.
The basic outline of the scheme was well known at the time. The idea was to allow the Shah of Iran to build the second or third most powerful air force on Earth and serve as a bullwatk against communist expansion to the South and simultaneously create a giant portfolio in Chase Manhatten for David Rockafeller to manag/play with while using such oil dollars as a new basis for money. The Saudis at the time didn’t even want to do it, the poor countries were just starting to get traction in the world using cheap energy.
Good coinage. Yet, as to VP Nixon’s involvment in the alignment of the SEATO Treaty, and thus our involvement in South East Asia- no one ever talks about. Ever.
I agree with you. People under forty only have what they have been fed by a press corp that hated President Nixon. He was a very nice man who also had immense skills in foreign policy and diplomacy. You mentioned the contrast between Clinton and Nixon. I doubt very much that either of the Nixon daughters ever owned a ten million dollar apartment in New York, as we just learned that Chelsea now does.

Nixon had mob friends. Obama had Commie and mob friends. He worked with CIA operations. Obama’s granddad was CIA and Obama could have been used in later college years. He did not plan the Watergate break in but did try to cover it up. Obama breaks over law he gets his hands on these days. He made some bad moves on the economy but nothing as close to Obama’s moves. I think it is like comparing apples to oranges.
