Obama is the closest thing to Nixon we've seen in 40 years

It is not without a bit of irony that, in the 40 years since the explosion of the Watergate story, Bob Woodward would again be under attack from the White House for trying to tell the truth. But this time the attack is coming from a Democrat.

While Barack Obama may not share the Nixon pedigree, he and his White House are the closest thing to the Nixon regime of any that we have seen since then -- both in the extent of their paranoia and their willingness to suppress the truth and push the boundaries of law.

In my lifetime, in over 40 years in national politics, Mr. Obama is the only president who comes close to rivaling Richard Nixon for fundamental disingenuousness.

Oh, poor Pat Caddell, all process-equivalency oriented and paying no attention to motives and goals. If you use fundamental disingenuousness to take out bad guys, that's a good thing, like in war where you use deception to screw over the enemy. If you use fundamental disingenuousness to take advantage of good guys, you're a con man: FDR, Clinton (both of them), Obama. You could describe both sides in a war as enemies and then say that they're basically the same in a functional sense, but you cannot say that in a moral sense--well, I guess you could if you're talking about internecine conflict between squabbling Muslim sectarian groups.

Given that Nixon was impeached...

I missed that. Clinton was impeached, but Senate rats rendered impeachment as a useful Constitutional tool.

Add to that their insults to common sense.

Add to that the dead, wounded and missing from Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan, all courtesy of the rats doing everything they could to undermine and negate America's efforts overseas unless there was a rat in the White House. Rats hate this Constitutional republic, IMHO.

They'll be a civil war before there's another war overseas.

Which 20th Century President hasn’t been a tool of the banksters?

Only one I can think of is Coolidge.

I like Mao, as in Mobilization Against Obama.

Oops. Sorry for my mistaken memory. Nixon faced the certainty of impeachment but resigned to avoid it. I've wondered since the joke of a trial in the Senate for Clinton whether Nixon would have been treated as well.

I think it is a real mistake to try to minimize Nixon's crimes to make Clinton or anybody else look worse.

Nixon maintained an enemies list and I'm confident he used it. He surrounded himself with unscrupulous people and gave them free rein to launder money, burglarize, wire-tap, bribe, and obstruct justice.

Nixon was not impeached. He resigned beforehand. He said he didn’t want to put the country through the impeachment process.

Clinton was impeached and could care less about the country.

Obama would stay if impeached to do as much damage as possible.

It's deja vu all over again

NIXON: "I am not a crook." OBAMA: "I am not a dictator."

Nixon has two things going for him that Obama can only lie about: Nixon was a U.S. Navy officer during WW2, and was born here of native parents.

Obama’s mysterious birth in Hawaii, with Connecticut Social Security NUMBERS (yes, plural), his proven foreign student credentials at Occidental College, his mysteriously non-existent law forms that make legal the name change from Soetero to Obama ... never mind all the crap, poor leadership, and his love with avowed Communists.

Well worth bumping and repeating.

Plus, at least Nixon was a natural born citizen and thus Constitutionally eligible for the job.

Yep.

Guess which one of the three has no actual achievments in their life or their presidency.......

Why hasn't the rest of the US figured this out.

The “nattering nabobs of negativism”.

That would be Spiro Agnew.

“Given that Nixon was impeached and forced to resign based on what was known from the tapes, one can only imagine the seriousness of whatever motivated Nixon to erase 18 minutes.”

Nixon was not impeached. He probably would have been had he not resigned. I find this thread careening from comedy to farce. I knew the man and once worked for him.
