The White House is denying reports an adviser threatened famed Watergate journalist Bob Woodward after the Washington Post reporter challenged President Obama's version of events on the looming sequester.
Woodward claimed Wednesday night that a White House aide sent him an email saying he would "regret" his comments. The aide was not identified, but an official familiar with the exchange told Fox News it was National Economic Council Director Gene Sperling. That was after Woodward wrote a column this past weekend claiming Obama was trying to re-write history -- regarding not only whose idea the sequester was, but also how it would take effect.
Woodward wrote that based on his reporting earlier in the budget battle, the president was trying to move the goalposts by trying to replace the sequester with a mix of tax hikes and spending cuts -- instead of solely spending cuts.
After Politico reported late Wednesday that Woodward was coming forward to claim he was threatened, a White House aide denied the claim.

We didn’t threaten him and we’ll kill anyone who says that we did.
Well, if the threat was in an email, then it’s not going to be hard for Woodward to verify. Seems pretty stupid of the WH to call Woodward a liar if he can just produce the email on a Sunday morning show in retaliation.
We didn’t threaten him, the dead cat was just an accident.
I so want to cause pain to those over at DU
So, they are calling Bob Woodward a liar. Let’s see if Woodword lies does and takes it.
I believe Woodward. Remember that story about the administration locking journalists in a closet during some event? These people want to control the message and have no desire for the truth of anything to come out.
I foresee another Breitbart murder.....
“Transparency” My Eye!
The Obama administration has crossed a critical line on the way to tyranny.
All administrations Democrat and Republican will try to spin the news and facts to their own political advantage. The Obama administration is threatening reporters for telling the truth.
I have lived and worked in many foreign countries and some of these were dictatorships. I have seen the same thing happen in those countries. We are very close to losing democracy and freedom.
Wow, even Nixon didn’t push it THAT far.
He should probably stay out of Fort Marcy park too.
You using my police, my sanitation people, and my Oldsmobiles free of charge. So, if you mention extortion again, I’ll have your legs broken.
FoxNews/Tucker Carlson now reporting that Woodward may have ‘hyped’ the email and that the Sperling email wasn’t ‘that’ serious, as a threat.
... and Boner, Cantor and McConnell et al. still think they can play nice with these people ...
Woodward is an old rodeo hand and is mostly baiting the WH.
We have nothing to fear with Barack Obama in the White House
“He should probably stay out of Fort Marcy park too.”
Or planes for that matter, remember Ron Brown?
