Rand Paul Explains His Surprise Vote For Chuck Hagel (1 of only 4 Republicans to vote for)
Buzzfeed ^ | Feb 26, 2013 | Rosie Gray

Posted on 02/26/2013 3:29:41 PM PST by Corporate Democrat

WASHINGTON — Kentucky Senator Rand Paul said his support for a filibuster against Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel never meant that he would vote against Hagel's confirmation.

"I voted no because I wanted more information and I think that part of what the Senate does is try to get information about the nominees," Paul told reporters in the basement of the Capitol after Hagel's confirmation Tuesday. "I've said all along that I give the president some prerogative in choosing his political appointees."

"There are many things I disagree with Chuck Hagel on, there are many things I disagree with John Kerry on, there are very few things I agree with the president on, but the president gets to choose political appointees," Paul said.

Asked if he ever got the information he wanted about Hagel, Paul said that he hadn't.

Paul implied that he might vote yes on final passage at Monday's New York Meeting.

After weeks of controversy, Hagel was confirmed by a vote of 58-41 on Tuesday.

Again, my apologies for failing to engage. Bitch to be old, tired & bored, hey, C. Ed?

Irony, as if you had a clue what it is, would apply based on your sterling retort, considering what you have said earlier. BTW, I am none of the three above sport model. Your mommy yelled down for you to pick up your cheetos.

McCain voted for Hagel. He just did it in his sneaky way of voting for cloture, which pretty much ensured he would be confirmed. Disgusted!

Apparently, he’s become his father.....

*SIGH*

Another sickening display by the Republican Panty. (no typo) Just waving the white flag of surrender like France in 1940. John McLame can be our Petain and Rand Paul can be our Laval.

When I say our country is on the edge of total disaster, I mean it. I’m not joking or joshing about. We are in serious, serious trouble.

Someone said this today, on this thread below. Anyone who doesn’t see blood ahead is stupid.

US defence secretary nominee backs Pakistan against India

They are on a roll and they know it. They smell final victory. They are in your face and they are pressing hard on all fronts. Who is going to stop them? The GOP? The courts? The disorganised, punchy taxpayers?

They are acting like the Soviet Army at the gates of Berlin. Resistance has crumbled to a few outnumbered, exhausted units and men too old for military service and young boys with ancient rifles. They are massed, organized, supplied, and plan to destroy everything in front of them to prevail. Then they are going to utterly destroy any opposition, loot everything in sight, and rape the inhabitants.

Unless we get a hold of this that is how it is going to end.

My reply:

I agree with your assessment.

And that is why it is vital to their plans to disarm us. Then it will be easy to bus us to the ravines, execution fields, etc.

It’s freaking dire.

Because of one vote - that was going to pass regardless - on one appointment? Really? It was a horrible vote, but wow....perspective.

Hell, even pasty blue bloods Cornyn and McCain voted Nay against one of their own.”

I would suspect that Cornyn only voted no because he’s up for election in 2014 and because Ted Cruz voted no.

Then if this doesn't frost you, how about Moochelle's travel bills & Barry Bath House exempts his salary from sequester.

No one's even trying to hide anything anymore. They're all just grabbing the silverware as the Titanic's going down.

It's all just a matter of time now.

Yeah, I can't even describe how frustrating and disgusting this is.

Where have y'all been for the last few decades? This is the corrupt "Two-Party Cartel" in normal mode. If y'all can't figure out that one almost every issue with controversy the elites GET THEIR PERSON OR BILL PAST. Discussing this crapola about Congress is a waist of bandwidth. And while I'm at it, your stink'in vote means nothing for Prez because these elites have limited you to 2 persons both owned & bought by these scum elites. So if ya don't think this is true just watch when the money runs out in a month & see who all will vote to kick the can down the road.

Let's say that again one more time:

Rand just shot himself in the foot. His Jew hatred just skewered his positions on freedom because Obama will just empower the Arabs to destroy Israel. How many allies with any backbone does America have in this world? This world is headed for the crapper and Paul just flushed the toilet.

Nonsense. This was an easy vote and not reasonably in dispute.

The only reason Paul voted for Hagel is they both hate Jews.

Yes, the president gets to pick appointees, but that doesn’t mean president IS OUR KING, and the confirmation process a rubber stamp to make it look pretty.

Orin Hatch disease, it is airborne after all.

I might have been happier if Paul had not voted for Hagel either but the reality is it probably didn't make one bit of difference.

If it didn't matter then explain why he would choose to spend so much political capital on this @ss wipe?

oh, THATS intelligent. Now Rand Paul is a RINO? Puh-leeze,

Huff and Puff all you want C you are on the short end of this stick. Rand should have voted no, since it didn't really matter, because some other Commie twit would have changed their vote.

This was a stupid vote by Rand and it served no good purpose.

I totally agree it’s a bad vote, and his explanation was bad also. He has some Paulesuqe and libertard leanings that make him a bit upsetting at times, I’ll be the first to admit. But RINO? That’s a different animal. That’s my only point. I was in no way defending this vote.
