Rand Paul Explains His Surprise Vote For Chuck Hagel (1 of only 4 Republicans to vote for)
Buzzfeed ^ | Feb 26, 2013 | Rosie Gray

WASHINGTON — Kentucky Senator Rand Paul said his support for a filibuster against Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel never meant that he would vote against Hagel's confirmation.

"I voted no because I wanted more information and I think that part of what the Senate does is try to get information about the nominees," Paul told reporters in the basement of the Capitol after Hagel's confirmation Tuesday. "I've said all along that I give the president some prerogative in choosing his political appointees."

"There are many things I disagree with Chuck Hagel on, there are many things I disagree with John Kerry on, there are very few things I agree with the president on, but the president gets to choose political appointees," Paul said.

Asked if he ever got the information he wanted about Hagel, Paul said that he hadn't.

Paul implied that he might vote yes on final passage at Monday's New York Meeting.

After weeks of controversy, Hagel was confirmed by a vote of 58-41 on Tuesday.

Well, at least we now know that the Rand Paul apple did not fall far from the Ron Paul tree

Well, true enough: The president does pick the nominee and the Senator votes no on the pick if they so choose.

Either he agrees with Hagel (and his dad) or he cut a deal.

Don’t know which. Maybe both.

So, he just dropped a couple of notches in my estimation. I’m looking for a fighter. Here was a fight easily won if someone was prepared to just fight.

When serving as a representive in a republic was a sacrfice endured through a feeling of obligation and duty, a republic could function.

With the influence garnered by taxation and money alloted to make it a vocation, the republic was doomed.

Rand Paul Snubs Netanyahu Address

Ron and Rand Paul are both anti-Israel, and gaining power in the GOP

Charles Johnson 5/24/11 10:52:02 am

In one of the most glaring examples of Republican Party cognitive dissonance, the GOP is positioning itself as the only true American friend of Israel — but at the same time, moving more and more toward the pseudo-libertarian anti-Israel politics of Ron Paul and his son Rand, who strongly advocate eliminating all US aid to the Jewish state.

Today when Benjamin Netanyahu spoke to Congress, Rand Paul made an explicit statement of this position by remaining at his desk.

As Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu received a warm welcome from a joint session of Congress on Tuesday, freshman Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) skipped out on the speech, sitting quietly at his Senate desk shuffling through papers and newspapers.

I never quite understood that so few people found this significant. It was.

Rand Paul Snubs Netanyahu Address

Thanks. You just answered my question in post 84.

When it comes to Israel, Rand agrees with Hagel, Paul Senior, and Obama.

Rand Paul is not a Conservative....first its supporting Illegal Alien Amnesty...now its voting for Hagel.

The spin from Rand Paul supporters is getting worse than the spin from Marco Rubio supporters. Neither are conservative

May the price of rope rise sharply in DC very soon.

Why?

Hang 'em all, hang 'em high.

R or D

Doesn't matter to me!

They're all Traitors to the United States and our Constitution.

Call me radical, I don't care. Hang 'em all, hang 'em high!

You two can crawl back under the rock where you came from.

Fine bit of discussion there, C. Ed.

That's what happens when your type reaches a certain point in life.

In that type's mind his opinions are so sublime & inviolable that he doesn't have to justify them to, or even fully form them for, anybody at all, including himself.

What it really means is that he has finally become just another sad, sour, leaky old gasbag.

Nice try, I just don’t care to play in your little 2 on 1 circle “junk” - and frankly, if you want to be obsessed with hatred of Rand Paul for this vote, then knock yourself out. I was not really being angry, just blowing you off, because you bore me, and the irrelevance of your own purity bores me, and I’m not going to defend nor condemn Paul on this one vote, though I was very much against it.

And rest assured, there are none other of “my type” on this forum and certainly not in your sphere of warm contacts.

Huh? Okay.....so just give Obama whatever he wants? This guy’s reasoning (as stated in this article) makes absolutely no sense.

I warned all the Paulistas on FR that Ron Paul simply always found libertarian reasons to vote the way Soros tells him to. I’m not the slightest bit surprised to see Soap-fetcher Junior pushing for an amnesty, wimping out on fiscal issues, and now voting for Herr Hagel. What a bunch of God-damned suckers.

Okay..sorry to disappoint.

Just so you know I don’t have any acquaintance at all with Para-ord, and I wasn’t even following the thread after my first message to you, so I wasn’t aware of any two-on-one.

I just think a guy of your mettle ought to indulge your lessers in a little more thought and substance, not just some ugly “are you Jesus” kind of sass.

Again, my apologies for failing to engage. Bitch to be old, tired & bored, hey, C. Ed?

All the gullible suckers who recently have been swooning over RAND Paul and fantacising that he deep down was any better than his sire, RON Paul, should pay attention to the old adage: “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree”. RAND never had me fooled for 30 seconds! His vote today proves the accuracy of my gut instinct. FWIW.
