A teen's luck appears to have changed after a chance encounter with an Indiana restaurant owner during a 10-mile trek through ice and snow for a minimum wage job interview.
It all started on Friday, when Art Bouvier, the proprietor of Papa Roux, a Cajun restaurant in Indianapolis, was laying rock salt outside the establishment after an ice storm earlier that morning.
He said he was approached by a teen who asked him how far it was to 10th and Sherman.
Mr Bouvier told WLFI-TV: 'And I'm thinking we're at 10th and Post. I said, "Buddy that's probably six, seven miles." I said, "You'd be better off on a bus especially in this weather." He just said, "Okay, thank you." And he kept going.'
Later, as Mr Bouvier was driving with his wife to a coffee shop, he was surprised to find the same person, still walking.
They pulled over, and asked him if he needed a ride.
The teen, Jhaqueil Reagan, obliged, and along the way, he told the couple that he was going to a Dairy Queen location for a job interview, and didn't have money for bus fare.
He said that he had already walked three miles before he reached Papa Roux.
Mr Bouvier told Fox 59: 'I'm thinking to myself, here’s a kid walking almost 10 miles in the ice and slush and snow for the hope of a job at minimum wage.

also has anyone noticed the size of a McDonald yogurt cone that is a buck??? recently had dental surgery and stopped for one, when I received it I asked the clerk..’did you think a kid was driving a car thru your drive in window?’ it was so small even a kid would not have been satisfied!!! the times certainly have changed...
Same with trade unions. They started cropping up after the end of the Civil War. As freed blacks moved north to look for work, trading the only skill they had, a propensity for strength and hard work. Having never earned a salary, they would work for much less than the local talent. And so began the industry of wage fixing.
It's unusual for the media to allow a positive story about White males to see the light of day.
Yes, but today the black illegitacy rate is greater than 50% and the white illegitacy rate is about 25%. Nothing remains stationary over long periods of time.
Government can “bend the curve”. Right now it is bending in the absolute wrong direction. The casual assumption that blacks are lazy and cannot hustle and work hard is unfair in my opinion. Blacks have been conditioned to believe the system is rigged against them, and lots of “well intentioned” (or otherwise) white people encourage them to believe that, and that is a terribly self-defeating outlook.
If the Klu Klux Klan had tried to devise a system to destroy progress for American blacks, they could not have come up with anything as diabolical and insidious as the Great Society.
You bet...They all could have been making 50 to 100k+. They're probably all lazy druggies!

What a wonderful story. Kudos to both men. Maybe the proprietor will adopt the young man and his siblings. Wouldn’t that be cool? I hope we read a lot of follow ups on this story as the years progress.
Around where I live the local bus rides are still down at 50 cents as of last year, but this is a very small town here. In Reno, they were 1.25 dollars -again, as of last year. However, with no job and therefore no bucks to use, I well know the difficulties of having to walk everywhere.
I would like to see you try to spend the sums you mention on a regular basis with no income and see how long it takes you to begin starving.
You just described something that I was unfortunate enough to have to experience firsthand. Hope to never have to repeat it.
Horse Puckey. I have been in such a situation more than once, in other words zero money and homeless, and it is not as easy to get governmental assistance as you so blithely assume. And NO, it was definitely NOT "by choice".
I went through a similar experience when I was younger, and you can put a lid on your attitude.

So, do I have an attitude? Bet your @ss I do -I earned it. Karma? Yeah, $even figures worth -literally.
My experience being homeless was being run over by a garbage truck while on a motorcycle at an intersection, breaking my back, the insurance giving out, savings disappearing, and refusing to go on welfare or govt assistance of any kind.
I lived in the streets nearly six months before I was well enough to hold down even part time work, and could get a room in the YMCA where a martial arts instructor helped me heal better than the doctors ever did. I now deadlift 8 and benchpress 4 even on my bad days at 50+yo. I have my own business, I live the life I want. I never have, and never will be on govt. assistance.
But you're the rich man, and your "seven figures" win the argument.

I wouldn’t have balked at taking certain government assistance if I were in your position, because I would feel I had paid my taxes and had as much right to it as anybody.
I tend to take whatever tax breaks I can as well, even though I would prefer if they would get rid of tax breaks and just treat all of us the same.
But I wouldn’t ever fault people for being homeless, especially if they are NOT being a burden on the taxpayer.
I also wouldn’t brag about wealth, because, well, bad karma, even though I don’t believe in that, why tempt fate? Or tell people where to come for the money?
