It was a better than average Oscar show last night. Host Seth MacFarlane came under fire for some less than tasteful jokes, but there were also a few terrific highlights.

All in all it was an entertaining evening, recognising some truly great cinematic achievements. However, the entrance of Michelle Obama, via video link, at the end of the ceremony to announce the Best Picture winner was a bizarre moment that was completely pointless. It was reportedly arranged by Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, a close friend of the Obamas (hat tip: Drudge Report). If the First Lady was a former actress (à la Carla Sarkozy), or had some official role in promoting the American film industry, it might have made some sense. Mrs. Obama, though, has no connection to the world of cinema.
It was a cringe worthy moment that came across as cynical liberal Hollywood pandering to a Democrat White House, a fitting match for an Obama presidency that is obsessed with show biz celebrities. As Tim Stanley noted earlier, the bias discredits both the White House and movie industry. Even the First Lady herself looked a bit embarrassed by the whole affair, and who knows what Jack Nicholson was really thinking about the spectacle.

Actually, the Royal Rump has a strong connection to Hollyweird and the world of cinema ... like the rest of her Democrap idols ... as abundantly illustrated above
I did catch that Weinstein fat slob caught walking in front of the stage at one point, I can’t recall what was happening at the time but clearly recall seeing his fat head.
Sickening
I boycotted it, as I do most network programming. The best show on TV is BBC America’s ‘Top Gear’ and that’s about it. I’m shocked the Celebrity-In-Chief didn’t show up and that it was only the ‘First Celebrity’ who did.
I watched “Worst cook in America”
Substitute cook for actor and there that’ve it, the Oscars.
didn’t bother...Duck Dynasty reruns instead.
Hardly pointless. An abject lesson in “See what I can do that you can’t”.
Why anyone watches the “pat me on the back I am more important than you show” dumbfounds me.
Yeah, but FR is talking about it non-stop...
I’m giving up Fallon...Too bad...He had some good stuff...Just don’t like boot lickers...
I heard they had some obamas overflowing at the Oscars.
Methinks Zero is taking this Romanesque bread-and-circuses thing a little too far, but then again, his low-info voters/supporters (including the “media”) are quite a few synapses short of brains. As long as it works for them, huh?
Not from what I saw. Some people owe Franco and Hathaway apologies for slamming their hosting.

If you wrote this yourself you probably alienated half your audience. That guy is smug and extremely annoying. As one poster said on another site "There is a grating smarminess about him." Also he wasn't very funny. And he knew he wasn't funny (or should have), so why bother with him?
Michelle Obamas Oscar cameo was pointless and bizarre
No argument there. That woman is starting to get on my nerves.
Where’s Chuck Barris when you need him?
married this (?)
I detest Weinstein...his company has made a few decent films but he is behind much of that in Hollywood that works overtime to transform the US into a vision he and Obama share
the secular progressive dream with folks like them as puppet masters and who think all that came before is one big transgression against them and their forebears
at our expense...Harvey is Obama's go to Hollywood guy like Geffen was for the Clinton's
he does have a nose for good scripts though
I’d much rather watch Gene Gene the Dancing Machine than Moochelle.
Talking about what ?
Ha! I LOVED that guy!
She’s just trying to get in half the face time that her asshat husband gets. Are there twitters about her running for potus?
