What do you get when you invite outspoken conservative firebrand Ann Coulter to debate outspoken libertarian John Stossel in front of an audience of 1,000+ libertarian students?
Fireworks, thats what.
On tonights episode of Fox Business Networks Stossel, Coulter got into a heated debate with Stossel and the students over a variety of social issues, in the process calling libertarians "******s" and receiving lots of jeering for her remarks. "Were living in a country that is 70-percent socialist, the government takes 60 percent of your money. They are taking care of your health care, of your pensions. Theyre telling you who you can hire, what the regulations will be. And you want to suck up to your little liberal friends and say, Oh, but we want to legalize pot.

Dittoes. I’m hardly on Coulter’s side any more, but she nailed it with calling libertarians pu——s.
The legal dope smoking, the pro-sodomy agenda, and more....
Enough!
She blew the first minute with her view on the Iraq war. The war was either wrong or we are there for other reasons then we have been told. She did not even mention that the dems are more war monger then the reps.
I hate to say it but gays will win the “right” to obtain a lisence from the feds to lawfully marry. The young generation is utterly and completely brainwashed about all things sexual. She did a lousy job explaining why many people are against gay marriage.
Dieting.
I think she just gets tired of swattin’ flies.......

“small l libertarians and conservatives are natural allies, and agree with each other on as close to 100% of issues as any other...”
No, we are not and do not, unless libertarians change their views on abortion, gay marrage and drugs.
I am a small l libertarian..
I do not buy into abortion...
I do not buy into gay marriage...
My bitch with the war on drugs is the collateral damage done to innocents and the complete trashing of constitutional rights while waging it...
stop listening to the pundits, and check things out just a little more..
not all republicans are conservatives..
and not all libertarians are nut jobs..
I have said this before, and i will say it again, the constitution, applied as written, will piss off just as many conservatives as it would liberals..
I think she can make an debate with facts but failed. I watched the video. She did not do well. She stumbled over her words. In the past she has used words like a knife. She did not even have a dull blade.
“I am a small l libertarian..I do not buy into abortion...I do not buy into gay marriage...”
That you are an exception in no way proves that libertarians aren’t overwelming pro-abortion & pro-gay marriage. It also does not support your orignal statement that conservatives and libertarians are natural political allies. We are not.
In addition, your presumption that I only listen to pundits and don’t check things out is arrogant and insulting. In point of actual fact, libertarians (see small “l”) are a tiny % of the electorate that does poorly whenever their ideas are polled at the ballot box.

Any woman who has gone down on Bill Maher is not to be held up as an example for anyone on any subject.
This was a gay-marriage crowd. You could tell by the early applause. I don’t think she was expecting that, but she made an excellent point about the overgrown socialist government, the unnecessary departments, etc.
As conservatives, we have some overlap with libertarians. She was asking them “Why do you pick the issues where you overlap with the socialists and thereby give them strength?”
They cost us ten seats in the House in 2012. They are on the ballot in many more states.
Most dangerous: They are not interested in the commonweal. They are basically babies who wanna do what they wanna do. You can't be interested only in the individual. There is the state interest too, where it is legitimate, just not as pervasive as it is now. We are out of balance, with the state too intrusive, but that doesn't mean the state and the culture should be ignored entirely. All good statesmen have the commonweal at heart.
“They cost us ten seats in the House in 2012.”
Perhaps you are correct on this point. But, as a conservative, there are certain core pronciples that I will not compromise. Not for libertarians, not for Republicans
We have overlaps because we’re both right wing schools of thought. The only difference is that they think the constitution alone can function effectively in today’s world, whereas we believe the constitution can only function if Americans return to being moral and just people, which they are clearly not right now thanks to decades of liberal indoctrination. So yes, I think the government should prevent infanticide, it should uphold CENTURIES of traditional Western customs, and it shouldn’t let wolves amass outside our door in the interest of ‘peace’.
You could tell 20% of the crowd there were looking for gay marriage. It was obvious. Coulter did make a good point that everyone has exactly the same right to marry one person of the opposite sex, over the age of consent. And she’s right about how cowardly a lot of these so-called libertarians are. They do emphasize the positions they and progressives agree on, yet if they explained their position on employment discrimination, they would be smeared and attacked worse than conservatives. The majority of libertarians it seems, don’t care at all about the economic side, and just yearn for a more socially liberal society than even the liberals are offering.
If it’s politically incorrect, liberal-tarians are no where to be found. Liars.
