Union members in Chicago are now intent on carrying guns aboard their buses if members of the civilian public are allowed to do so. And naturally, they want more taxpayer money for their trouble.
The NRA has insisted on concealed-carry laws that would allow the general public to carry guns on public transit; now Amalgamated Transit Union Division 308 President Robert Kelly says such a policy is “outrageous and cannot be allowed.” Chicago Transit Authority President Forrest Claypool agrees, “It would be disastrous to allow passengers to carry concealed weapons on our trains and buses.”
But sensing an opportunity to push for higher pay, Kelly added that if civilians were allowed to carry weapons, CTA employees “should get training and have the same right for protection. We will also need to be paid accordingly since we will have dual jobs as transit workers and police officers.”

That is fine. Even union thugs should have concealed carry rights.
But they don’t deserve cop pay.
In places more civilized than Chicago the general public legally carries concealed weapons every day. They also ride public transportation, walk the streets, drive cars, go shoppibng, etc.
Chicago’s problem isn’t legal gun ownership - it is with political correctness that is responsible for allowing an animalistic, criminal segment of society to run amok.
The Obama labor front wants weapons?
Obama wants to take one more step toward the real leftist goal which is a guaranteed minimum income for all - no work required.

Howie Carr warned about this a few months back. He said that if teachers were armed they would demand to be classified as LEO, thus retiring early, in their 40’s, with LEO pensions and benefits. Thus all the work that Govs Walker and Christie accomplished would go right down the drain.
I wonder what the police union would have to say about this?
why not just automate busses and replace the drivers?

I’m all for them having weapons as private citizens but they damn sure don’t need to get paid for it and they don’t need police powers either.
The goal everywhere should be less cops and the way to do that is to create a civil society.

On any given route and any given bus, ILLEGAL carry gang-bangers and neighborhood thugs are in possession of a firearm. These Onion-goofs should have been bitchin’ about having to protect themsleves decades ago!
They get to collect duplicate union dues.
Dear bus driver:
The crooks are already packing on your precious bus.
This law just evens the odds a bit.
The problem with you insisting on packing, is that now the bad guys know it, and you’ll be the first one shot.
The first rule in security is DON’T TALK ABOUT IT!
