An initiative by Jerusalem's Mayor Nir Barkat intends to take advantage of the wide coverage to unleash a public relations barrage and to present to them "Jerusalem's other side."
According to the plan, journalists will be taken on tours around Jerusalem and will visit the main historical sites, such as City of David and the Western Wall Tunnel.
They will also be taken to an Israel Museum's exhibition about King Herod and to the Ice City, where they will see a custom built ice sculptor in Obama's image.

And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.
Thank you for posting the verses from Matthew. Amazing isn't it, words written 2,000 years ago, could be so alarming today.
This attraction appears to be a new annual festival-exhibition:
A chilly spectacle at Jerusalem's International Ice Festival
Mayor Nir Barkat promises new and improved content at Jerusalem's second International Ice Festival.

Visitors to Jerusalem were greeted with a chilly spectacle on Monday, as the Holy City's second International Ice Festival exhibition began.
"It's the ice festival's second year. This year is dramatically improved and enriched. We've heard lots of comments and new ideas and innovations. This is fascinating experience for people that are never been to the ice city," said Mayor of Jerusalem Nir Barkat.
The festival, modeled on China's Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival, drew sculptors from all over the world to Jerusalem to work on the project, many previously worked on the Harbin festival.
The ice statues were made by Chinese and Israeli artists.

Looks like last year's problems may provide a hint as to what may befall the Obama idol.

Sculptures melt due to a technical failure; people from all over the country enraged that they weren't informed the attraction was closed.

Ooops!
I don't know, but that's because I don't follow or know what is happening with that particular issue.
Thank you so much for pinging me. I am truly appreciative.
I tried to carefully read the linked article.
Themes will include popular fairy tales and Biblical stories, and the imported Chinese are participating! “Hope” remains alive for a horrid sculpture of the Won.
What are the odds that the obama idol will do something no ice sculpture has done before... attract flies.
Yup, keeping the hope alive! ;-)
Plus there’s always photoshop.
LOLOLOL @ attract flies!
I’ll start praying now!
Can you imagine the despair?
“We thought it was a prank - that someone had smeared a substance on the ice - but the more we wipe and clean, the more the flies descend!”
LOLOLOL.
I’m in tears from laughing so hard. “Despair” is the prefect word.
We must pray for someone to put a substance into or onto the ice image. LOL.
Sugar water would attract armies of ants.
"No, the sculpture wasn't supposed to be black, but look... it's a miracle!" ;-)
Good fortune would dictate that the Chinese craft this one. Then we can be certain that it will have major issues. The thing could just shatter for no apparent reason, or have its face fall off, or something. The destruction would even serve to resurrect the worn out internet meme, "The fail is strong with this one."
As If Jerusalem doesn’t have enough WONDERFUL Things to gaze upon and explore!
I could spend a LIFETIME in JUST one place...the Shrine of the Book.
And the digs at the southern wall...OMG!
The Mount of olives is amazing too.
And those aren’t even the FAMOUS sights! LOL.
Jerusalem is ETERNAL, her “exhibits” span THOUSANDS of years, so I guess it is a funny contrast to have an “Ice City” that can only be kept alive with MACHINES!
