The 60th vote: Republican Richard Shelby to vote for cloture on Hagel; Update: Deb Fischer too? posted at 2:01 pm on February 21, 2013 by Allahpundit And so, after days of accusations about what Hagel did or didnt say at Rutgers Israeli control of the State Department, and despite the nominees refusal to let reporters pick through his archives, this guys actually gaining votes in the Senate rather than losing them.
I understand the argument that the president deserves deference in his cabinet picks, even if I dont agree with it in this case. But if were going to cave, can we at least not sugarcoat Hagels incompetence? This is pure garbage from Shelby:

Shelby knows that he does nothing for the money he rips off from the American taxpayer. And he knows they keep electing him time and time again. He knows a moron can be elected to political office. He knows Goober Bagel is a moron. I would suspect the runhead is Selby’s drinking buddy. Drinking buddies like to look out for each other. With the selection of Goober to lead the Def Dept, the cat is out of the bag on competence in government agencies. It is not required. And experience is not required. The babbling, stammering, studdering drunkard Pvt Bagel to lead the Def Dept is proof positive.
Off with his head!!
Richard Shelby is a RINO and has been for at least 15 years. I knew that when he replied to an email I sent him years ago about getting us out of the UN. He totally was in the tank for the UN then and he hasn’t changed.
Pointless. The McInsane/Linseed axis has already declared defeat, so I don’t know why Shelby would do this. Maybe he’s the tip of that spear. Hagel will get in, by a lot. One by one the Senators will fall in line. Just like with Kerry.
There’s a Bloomberg Poll out today showing Obama at 55% positive job approval, a three year high and the Republicans in Congress at 35% positive approval, a three year low.
The average voter who doesn’t follow politics very closely goes with the winners and they don’t like the losers.
If the Republicans cave in on every issue, they are perceived of as the losers and therefore they are unliked.
For image sake alone, they should stand fast and win some political victories.
I don't know about the Obama number, but the Congress number of 35% is total BS and makes me doubt your poll. It's more like 15-18%. 35% would be a world-wide sensational boost.
I’d like to apologize to everyone for Richard Shelby, God knows I didn’t vote for him, and God knows he’s gonna help screw us all.
The Republicrat party wins again. We need to stop being surprised. The entire system is being taken down, and they want a RINO to be in charge of the military when it all goes in the dumper.
The only issue is whether Hagel would order troops to:
1. Stand down against the civil guard force;
2. Use the Military against the US Citizens by using it to spy on civilians; and
3. fire against American Citizens.
Apparently, the Ben Ghazi questions have all been satisfactorily answered: “Yes,” “Yes,” and “Yes.”
I hope the first to suffer are those who voted to eliminate our freedoms.
I will pay 500.00 to any reporter that has the balls to ask Obama or Carney in front of cameras....”How do you sleep at night knowing you are taking apart and dismantling the greatest country in the history of man?”
I’m fast losing my ability to care anymore. I no longer feel represented in that den of thieves in DC. Screw ‘em all.
There truly needs to be a real opposition political party. The GOP isn't interested in standing against Obama anymore.
The Senate, in the end, is a Go Along, Get Along club. Hagel is one of their own and thats all that matters.
I guarantee you if Bush had put up this a weak candidate Reid and Schumer would not have “gone along to get along”. That right there is the problem. Dims brawl while the GOP plays by Marquees of Queensbury rules. Guess who wins?
I'd be happy to at least see the GOP fight to MoQ levels. They won't even do that. And when Obama nominates Van Jones or some other hard-core radical to tip the balance of the Supreme Court, the Gelded Old Party will cave just as easily.
“I knew Shelby was not to be trusted. Ive been saying this for years.”
What does one expect from someone who was a demoncrap?
He needs to be removed from office IMO.

This "President" deserves no deference of any kind.

What a wretched bunch the Republicans have become. Only THREE of them voted against traitor John Kerry. Disgraceful. Bob
You really called and told them that? I cannot imagine their reaction when they got off the phone with you. Amazing.
I am with you, Jemian.. I have never trusted him. And hello to you. It is always good to see you. I hope you are well.
