Citing budget uncertainties and the threat of sequestration, Joint Base Langley announced Friday it is canceling the Langley air show, which was set for May 3-5. A spokeswoman for Oceana Naval Air Station said it may cancel its show as well.
"The Air Force has to consider the fiscal challenges affecting the Department of Defense and the nation," Col. Korvin Auch, 633rd Air Base Wing commander, said in a statement announcing the cancellation.
"We're taking prudent steps now in order to be good stewards of taxpayer resources while focusing on maintaining readiness."

Good decision. Tax dollars shouldn’t be used for entertainment.
Politically correct colonel, who wants to be made a General by Obama people. Guy is reminiscent of the school board president who states “If the school budget is not approved by the voters, we will have to cancel the football program.”
Luke AFB, Phoenix, AZ canceled theirs also.
Time for the Air Force to ground the first lady and Nancy Pelosi too.
Maybe just cutback on the maintenance of Nancy's plane a bit if nothing else.
Bags fly free on Southwest so maybe that is an option for the old bag
In my command we’d just put up a really big TRAINING mission that day like a 16 shipper on low level nav training.
Seymour-Johnson AFB cancelled the May show.
We’re planning on Beaufort ,SC in late Apr. unless we hear different.
Bummer
A-f%ck!ng man.
You make a lotta sense.
Deny. Defy. Do not Comply.
I just looked it up and bookmarked it. That is a bit far in the future since I pull weekend oncall rotations but I would like to try to go.
Talks of Fleet Week and the yearly show by the Blue Angels annual October visit is also in danger of being cancelled here in San Francisco.
Oddly enough, most of SF is actually saddened by this news as the Blue Angels annual visit is a big tradition here and draws over 1 Million viewers for the spectacular show that takes place over the Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge.
I beat the weekend crowd and take off early from work on the Friday before the weekend and watch the final practice run which is basically the same as the weekend show, but without the massive crowds.

They have the venue.
They have security personnel, no need to hire any.
They have planes.
Most of the acts are private planes and pilots.
A little extra fuel. Less than a 747 uses on a Wash. DC flight to Hawaii I’ll bet..
What’s the largest expense? Insurance?
They sell premium seating also.
How much could it cost?
Well, surprise, surprise!
This is the first time that I’ve heard that the military can save some money without having to forgo nuclear refueling, extending Afgan rotations to 15 months; devastating training; reducing troops, gutting weapons programs.
See, there are a few things that can reduce wasteful spending.
Good point:
Obongo would have to sacrifice just one vacation a year to keep this great tradition going, but since he hates our military I doubt that will happen.
What a moron?
All of the Services this month are spending money to give “spousal” benefits to queers and “celebrate Black History Month.
The Blue Angels were scheduled for Smyrna
in May.We are so wishing they won`t be
canceled.
These shows are such a tradition for the
Armed Forces to show the public a little
of what they do.
It's also a good opportunity for Tax Payers get to check out what they're paying for. They have a 'cool' factor. And morale to a certain extent is lifted. Folks get to meet, shake hands with and thank a lot of active duty. But the shows are probably seen as pro-military, pro-war and arms and gun crazy by the Lefties. Which is exactly why Obama's DOD might put the cabutz on them.
