MOSCOW -- The Russian Academy of Sciences is estimating the meteor that streaked into the skies over the Ural Mountains and caused shock waves that injured more than 400 people weighed about 10 tons (11 tons avoirdupois).

The academy said in a statement hours after the Friday morning fall that the meteor entered the Earth's atmosphere at a speed of at least 54,000 kph (33,000 mph) and shattered about 30-50 kilometers (18-32 miles) above ground.

The fall caused explosions that broke glass over a wide area. The Emergency Ministry says more than 500 people sought treatment after the blasts and that 34 of them were hospitalized.

LOL - FYI - I guess I’m not the usual, run-of-the-mill “housewife”. Watched 5 minutes of DWTS only once and never will again, LMAO about the cruise ship, and 6:00 AM today was the first morning I’ve turned on the TV in seven years. 63 y.o., and I get along better with men than most women. Go figure.

Interesting that there are random threats out there that potentially could change (or end) life on Earth as we know it forever but we devote only insignificant resources to predicting or neutralizing them. On the other hand if there was an asteroid or a major solar storm or super volcanic eruption forcast do you think the elites in government bunkers would clue the sheep in?

The meteor hit on the same day that the opposite version of the Ark, a listing cruiseship with torment and misery aboard is dragged into harbor. Kinda interesting.

Matthew 24:37-39

“But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,

And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”

I wonder how long will it be before pieces of the meteorite are listed on eBay?

CNN says it’s global warming. Someone needs to discuss that things from outer space are outside the “globe” and if warming attracts them, then they’d all be flying to the sun. Geeesh!

If there is an Incendiary Index, this week was no time to short it. Even the Crispy Carnival Cruise was not too far from

an interesting historical site

Originally it was to be towed to Progreso, so I suppose it could have been worse.

He doesn’t need to declare the U.S. a meteor-free zone.

Our savior will just skeet-shoot it out of the sky.

>>>This thing was traveling so fast it was breaking the sound barrier. As I understand it that is some of the explosion sound you hear in the videos.

So fast? Not really. The "sound barrier" isn't all that fast when you deal with orbital mechanics...matter of fact...it's very slow. For future reference...EVERY meteor/asteroid is going to be traveling faster than the sound barrier when it approaches/enters the atmosphere. It is the nature of orbital mechanics.

This meteor was traveling MANY TIMES the speed of sound...probably between 40 and 50 x the speed of sound. ALL of them area. Some are a little slower and some are faster. The fact it was traveling faster than the speed of sound in not remarkable...it's a necessity. IT's like remarking that a tornado has some wind in it.

Fact: If 2012 DA14 wasn't traveling many times faster than the speed of sound...it wouldn't miss the earth...it would hit it. But then...by the time it hit...it would be traveling many times the speed of sound because of the acceleration of gravity. Orbital mechanics.

I would think it would be possible for an asteroid coming in at the correct angle to “skip” off the atmosphere. Has that ever been recorded?

Thanks for the ping! I’ve been watching the news, and checking it out on the net. Unbelievable!

I had a demented idea on reshaping DWTS into Dancing with the CARS.
You have the contestants try to cross Times Square while dancing in traffic.
The survivor wins.

Yeah, I had people tell me I was horrible.

If there was only one legitimate function of government, it would be to prevent the end of humanity in an asterorid impact.

Right up there with pulling the energy out of super volcanoes or learning to trip small earthquakes instead of waiting for "the big one."

Wonder what was in that meteorite - I’m guessing cacao and coffee plant seeds - stuff God thought we’d need to get through the day 60 million years later :)

>>>Were these companions of the asteroid that was supposed to miss us by about 20K miles sometime Friday?

>>>At least one Russian scientist thinks it could have been.

No. They were on totally different trajectories. If they were on the same trajectory...roughly...they MIGHT be...but you have to understand that even on the same trajectory they would have been separated by about 500K miles. Which would tend to indicate they were not related.

But...the trajectory is really key. That makes them absolutely unrelated and coincidental (unless God is trying to say something...which I do NOT discount).

>>>I will take that as definite confirmation that this meteor is asociated with 2012 Da14!

Uh...no. It is NOT related. They are on 2 totally different trajectories...and if you know anything about orbital mechanics...you know that means they are not related. Not sure, but the Russian meteor looks like it is coming from the NE or NNE. 2012 DA14 is coming from the south.

Now...if you don't know anything about orbital mechanics...I could see why you would be confused.

I take it as a sign that NASA should stop studying the earth and get back into the exploration, pathfinding, and prospecting business.

Or that they've been too distracted in associating anything Muslim with space research and technology.
