IOC cuts wrestling from 2020 Olympics

In a shocking move, the International Olympic Committee voted to drop wrestling from its schedule for the 2020 Games. The unexpected decision was made via secret ballot during a Tuesday meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland where officials were discussing ways to "streamline" the Olympics.
Though many assumed modern pentathlon would get the boot, the committee instead decided to eliminate wrestling, which has roots in the ancient Greece games and has been a part of every modern Olympics since they began in 1896. The vote was completed over several rounds and the final totals were not released to the public.

I didn’t really need another reason to continue ignoring the Olympic Games, but they’ve given me one anyway. Costas, Up Close and Personal, Gymnastics, Equestrian, Beach Volleyball, Synchronized Swimming, corruption in the boxing matches...you get the point.
It’s all about catering to women viewers.
Good Lord, what is wrong with these people? They are only rivaled by the Nobel Prize Committee in their stupidity. Water ballet stays, wrestling goes. Boycott these assholes.
I think the Polish team would clean up in that event.
The only silver lining is that this will tick off the Iranians, since they are one of the best wrestling countries.
Guess you couldn’t hack it. Hardest sport in the world. Muggers will have an easy time when they target you.
I agree. And it is a great individual sport. They should get rid of tennis. And beach volleyball.
But it is clear they care most about making money, not about fostering a unique athletic competition.
All I can say is, if the winter olympics gets rid of curling, they will be dead to me. I already hardly watch the summer olympics, although it’s nice to occasionally catch some event like water polo or velodrome bike racing.
And I actually enjoyed the archery this past year.
Something had to go to make room for golf.

That is simply not true!!
Go watch a good college wresting meet; you would be amazed at the athleticism of these guys.
I was able to watch everyone of Cael Sandersons meets when he wrestled at Iowa State. Just an incredible athlete; the only wrestler to ever go undefeated in college competition.
It wasn’t just his matches that were exciting; the other weights were also very exciting to watch. I always wondered; why are not more people here watching

Yeah, Synchronized Swimming is so much more exciting. /s
Not a personal wrestling fan but I know some kids who wrestle and it is a serious sport. And tradition alone should keep this classic in the Games. Yet equestrian sports, beach volleyball, and rhythmic gymnastics are still in?
My favorite sport to watch is men’s gymnastics. I get to watch it every day. These guys take nearly a year to get ready for their short season of competition. Nobody has the strength and flexibility of gymnasts. None of the young men that I know enjoy the uniforms as fashion -— they are from all walks of life and practice in basketball shorts. Some dress a little gangsta. They just have to wear form fitting uniforms so you can see how straight and “one piece” they make their bodies. It is NOT easy to do that.
I wish men’s gymnastics are more popular among Americans. Go to your local college or even club meet. They are long, so don’t stay for the whole thing, or come late so you can see the awards at the end. It’s a cheap way to see what cirque de soleil will show you for $150. Plus you can see 14 year olds doing it! Wow! You will see such courage as guys fall off yet have to get back up and complete their routines even with the huge point loss. Sometimes more than once in a routine.

Just how many of the other Olympic Sports has God participated in?
so they dump baseball, softabll and wrestling but keep ping pong and badminton? What are they going to add next, croquet?
