Inhofe to ‘Postpone’ Hagel Vote

Inhofe to ‘Postpone’ Hagel Vote

By Robert Costa

Senator Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma, the ranking Republican on the Armed Services Committee, tells National Review Online that he will “postpone” the nomination of Chuck Hagel, President Obama’s nominee for secretary of defense.

“I’ll do that for as long as it takes,” he says, firmly. “I’m going to make sure there is a 60-vote margin.”

“Hagel may be passed out of the committee, but it’s going to be a long, long time before he hits the floor,” Inhofe says. “We’re going to need as much time as possible, and there are going to be several of us who will have holds.”

“Each day that goes by will make it more difficult for Democrats who say they are pro-Israel to hold out,” Inhofe explains. “I want everyone to be very clear about his past statements and his positions.”

Inhofe says he will not block Hagel’s committee vote on Tuesday. Instead, he will now focus entirely on an extended floor fight over the final confirmation. “He’s definitely going to make it out of the committee,” he predicts.

The Oklahoma senator, who has been one of Hagel’s fiercest critics, says that he will not walk out of the committee vote, as some have rumored.

Inhofe’s main concern remains Hagel’s position on Israel. “The anti-Israel history of Chuck Hagel is real,” he says. “We can’t have someone at the Pentagon who has made these kind of statements.”

Hagel’s financial-disclosure issues, he adds, are not central to why he’s working to postpone the nomination. “That doesn’t bother me,” he says. “To me, that’s minor.”

Ok. But it’s time for him to go. He’ll end up voting for Hagel if it’s close. If it’s not close, he’ll vote against him. That’s his MO.

Since you object to a walk out, perhaps you can explain Inhofe’s strategy and how Hagel will lose when it comes to the floor?

I call BS

By all means let’s win the mature adult moral high ground award. That will be a real comfort as we watch our country disappear.

I don’t give a darn how they get it done. Conservatives need to learn to get it done any which way that works. Even dirty and by way of tantrum.

If you read what McCain said, he already conceded that Hagel “fulfilled the rigorous requirements that the Committee demands of every Presidential nominee to be Secretary of Defense.”

No he did not. There are financial disclosures still outstanding. And unlike McCain I have no objection to his being “disrespectful” to Chairman Levin.

Oh stuff it, what would be the point in explaining anything to you? You've obviously got it all figured out. Far be for me to interrupt your pious self-assurance. Wallow in your self righteousness, in your mind you've no doubt earned it.

Good day.

We’re going to get screwed, regardless.

I want the Marxist impeached over Benghazi, so dragging out the confirmations works for me!

I’m with you, every day his agenda is stalled, blocked or reversed is a good day for liberty! :-)

Wounding Obama early and often is critical. The media covered for him and he got a second term, but you can turn back his moves. Gain the Senate and it happens even quicker.

Once Obamacare is fully born he and the Dems will be fish food. The GOP has a real shot at peeling away disaffected blacks. I’ve spoken to many “inner-city” blacks who want guns, vouchers, jobs and who think Obama’s nothing but a talking suit.

There’s also a strong and growing rift between Latinos and blacks. Blacks may come home to the GOP. Latinos are the lowest participating voters. Jobs and liberty will lead the way.

I have to ask why? Is this another GOP fake where they draw the line in the sand....5 yards behind the goal line? I am tired of the GOP taking a stand tomorrow or next week. Like real budget cuts, next week never comes.
