Can Whitey Bulger blame his own raging case of Obama Derangement Syndrome rather than a tabby cat for his 2011 capture?
Thats the suggestion in a bombshell new biography, Whitey: The Life of Americas Most Notorious Mob Boss, by veteran Boston reporters Dick Lehr and Gerard ONeill.
When Whitey and moll Catherine Greig had been living in Santa Monica, Calif., as Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Gasko, Greig became close to Icelandic model Anna Bjornsdottir, bonding over the care of a stray cat. Whitey often joined them outside their apartment building.
But, Lehr and ONeill write, Bjornsdottir and Whitey never spoke again after she unabashedly expressed admiration for the first black president.
He practically exploded disgusted that she could admire a black man as president ... Nothing was the same after. Whitey gave Anna the cold shoulder, would not even respond when she said hello to him. Anna Bjornsdottir, meanwhile, would not forget the old mans sudden rage or his angry, cold glare.
In June 2011, watching a story on CNN, Bjornsdottir recognized the fugitive as her rabid racist neighbor. He was captured days later.
The book will be published next week by Crown.
Lehr and ONeill say Whitey also spewed his racist views to Josh Bond, a young Boston University grad living next door. At one point, Bond asked Bulger to stop using the n-word so much, and Whitey replied:
Im old school. I dont think the races should mix.
So, in addition to everything else he is is Whitey Bulger a Bitter Clinger?
Among other revelations in the book:
Stevie Flemmi told the feds under oath that in 1981 Whitey said he was going to talk to his brother, then-Senate President William Bulger, about the pressure of state police investigations. Billy Bulger, under oath, denied involvement in an anonymous 1981 budget rider that would have forced the retirement of Lt. Col. Jack ODonovan, vetoed by Gov. Edward J. King. Flemmi told the feds Billy was not forthright when answering questions.
Whitey penned his memoirs in 2008 after watching a 60 Minutes interview of hit man Johnny Martorano. Whiteys opening line: I have been driven to this by the lies of JM, and seeing his insane interview on 60 Minutes was the last straw. Martorano said yesterday, Why didnt he just change the channel?
Until she went to serve her eight-year sentence in Minnesota, Greig stayed in touch with her octogenarian boyfriend. Lehr and ONeill say messages were passed through a Bulger niece who sent her photos with something personal from Whitey written on the back, such as Those were the best years of my life.
Despite endless references to their Irish heritage and their digs at the English and the Yankees who once dominated the state Whitey and Billy are one-quarter English through their paternal grandmother.
Throughout his prison years, Whitey corresponded with the Rev. Robert Drinan, then dean of BC Law and later the first Catholic priest elected to Congress. While he was alive, Drinan never mentioned his connection to the mob boss.
Whitey, locked up in Alcatraz when his kid brother was first elected in 1960, wrote a congratulatory note, saying politics pays a good salary and provides a pension. Whitey was more prophetic than he knew. Billy, at $200G a year, is the richer for it.
Howie Carr list ping
Trivia: When Shaquille O’Neill came to Boston to play for the Celtics, he dubbed himself with the nickname “Blackie Bulger”. After some people including perhaps relatives of the victims said it was not such a good idea, he backtracked.
Lehr and O’Neill wrote Black Mass which was recently re-issued with a slightly changed subtitle to highlight Whitey. Howie has written Brothers Bulger, Hitman, and Hard Knocks (the latter a fiction novel though characters clearly inspired by many in the Boston mob scene). Howie’s new book is called Rifleman, probably centering on Steve Flemmi—it will be out in a few months. Howie said on air he is putting it out now (lots of pictures too) with a publisher who can get it out quickly rather than going to another where it would come out long after the Whitey trial.
So they found a guy that hates 0bama because he’s black.
The implication is that all who oppose 0bama do so because he’s black.
Yes, I get it.
Blackie Bulger. I thought that said Blackie Burger.
One time in Chicago, I got a burger at a restaurant called BostonBlackies and it was nicknamed the Blackie Burger.

There are so many other reasons to hate Obama for, of course! (Meanwhile what party did/does ML King, Ed Brooke, Condi Rice etc belong to? Not the Dems. Which party was associated the KKK and had Bobby Byrd as a member? Not the GOP. The party that freed the slaves and fought for civil rights: Republicans.)
Democrats...like his brother, racist to the core.
There is not much answer for the left when you ask them if they seriously think that you’d support 0bama’s Marxist “fundamental change” of the country if only he were white.
Leftists have no shame, and very little logic capability, so they wouldn’t even address this argument.
Im old school. I dont think the races should mix.
I bet the other inmates on his cellblock can appreciate the irony.
Wait, what?
(quick trip to google)
Ah ok, Gerard O'Neill. I was starting to think "Black Mass" was another one of Shaquille's back-up nicknames.
Especially consider the great Irish/Italian Family Feud, which apparently continues unabated despite 5 generations of intense intermarriage. Whitey? His annointed role, to work with the (then)Irish Catholic FBI to rub out the Italian Mob, of course. In this three-way ass-kicking contest, no one seemed to notice the Cali Cartel!
Both sides in the all-Catholic feud have managed to overlook the fact that a coalition of African/Americans, wealthy Liberals, many Jewish, and huge numbers of legal and illegal Hispanics have left them in the dust, and as the easy election of Princess Fauxcahontas might illustrate, are the people who actually run the state, with the cheap Catholic crooks cut out of the real action, probably still running numbers!
The Bulgers, like any smart family in civil disputes, had a man in each camp. Now, about Mennino.....
You know the clowns at MSNBC have some slight variant of this headline going through their heads just about 24/7.
We saw Sammy Davis, Jr. You got to see this show. What a performer! He does impersonations. It was like the real people! Unbelievable. You could see how a white girl could fall for him. Not me. But you could see how some girls could. Like that Swedish girl. So you condone that stuff. Take it easy. I don't want to be kissing Nat King Cole over here.
right should have qualified the first name of the writer! Black Mass, ha!

>>New Shaq Nickname: Blackie Bulger? By KC Downey in CELTICS, FEATURED, NOW! ⋅ October 18, 2010 at 11:45pm ⋅
According to the Boston Herald, Shaquille ONeal has recently started calling himself Blackie Bulger: The Godfather of Sudbury after hearing about notorious mobster Whitey Bulger, who is allegedly still on the run across the world. He has since decided against continuing to go by Blackie Bulger, out of respect for Whiteys victims families.
>>Im not sure how those families would look at that, he said. Thats why Im not going to call myself that anymore. I dont want them to think the wrong thing. Shaq remains interested in Boston culture, and like it or not, Bulger and organized crime are all apart of the history of the Hub. He has maintained an interest in organized crime, and recently purchased Street Soldier: My life as an Enforcer for Whitey Bulger and the Irish Mob by former Bulger thug Edward MacKenzie Jr.
A good friend of Jack Nicholson, Shaq saw one of Jacks best films, The Departed, and since that time, he has been interested in learning more.
>>Analysis Sure, Shaq dropped the nickname out of respect for victims families, but I think more out of respect for anyone that may be offended by the nickname: whether it be racially sensitive people, African Americans, people with good taste, etc. Shaq is a smart man, and knows better than to mess up his good standing with the Boston people before he takes the court for a regular season game.
“Anna Bjornsdottir” ?
Was this the same girl that was in “More American Grafitti”?
My pasty-faced, blond, blue-eyed, thoroughly Caucasian-looking step-daughter had a DNA analysis taken recently. She found out she (and obviously my wife) had a black ancestor who lived in England and intermarried with the home people. There have been black people in England since Roman times, and many obviously interbred/intermarried with the English. My wife was shocked, but it didn't surprise me much. So whenever I hear certain people prate about their "pure" bloodlines, I smirk and then wish I could give that person a DNA analysis.
Yes and the “first black President” (never mind the claim about Clinton) had a mother whose race was the same as mine:
Caucasian (he admitted to being a “mutt”)
Agreed about the mixing over the years.
Yeah, that was confusing. Whattya expect, though, it’s written by a journalist in newspaperspeak.
