WASHINGTON, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- The Democratic leader in the U.S. House said the nation's budget deficit stems from past emergencies and will take time to whittle down.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said on "Fox News Sunday" the freewheeling spending by Washington in recent years addressed the economic stimulus of the Obama administration coupled with big-ticket items from the Bush years, including the Medicare drug benefit, tax cuts and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"It isn't as much you had a spending problem as it was priorities, and that is what the budget is, setting priorities," said Pelosi.

Forget investigative journalism, if we had an even mildly interested press, Pelosi wouldn't be able to discuss this budget as some sort of objective outside observer. We have proof she was at the scene of the crime. We have fingerprints, witnesses, audio/video recordings, and transcripts that prove this is her budget. And every new CR the Repubs get Boehnered into passing establishes a new baseline for even greater federal growth.

I'm sure Pelosi has set a record for the number of times she passed her budget while being minority leader...all while blaming Bush.

Conservatives and even some in the GOP were predicting what we have now just under fifty years ago when LBJ got his 1965 `Great Society’ legislation passed. The only surprising thing is that it’s taken this long.
