A report commissioned by Joe Paterno's family calls the July 2012 Freeh report that was accepted by Penn State trustees before unprecedented sanctions were levied by the NCAA against the school's football program a "total failure" that is "full of fallacies, unsupported personal opinions, false allegations and biased assertions."
The Paterno family report, which targets nearly every conclusion and assertion the Freeh report made about Paterno in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal, states that while former FBI director Louis J. Freeh has had an honorable past and good reputation, his investigation -- especially as it relates to Paterno -- relied on "rank speculation," "innuendo" and "subjective opinions" when it concluded that Paterno concealed facts about Sandusky in part to avoid bad publicity.
Freeh was hired on Nov. 21, 2011 and paid $6.5 million by Penn State University trustees --

The Paterno family immediately roundly and loudly rejected the report, and, four days after its release, instructed its lawyer to form a "group of experts" to conduct a comprehensive review of the facts and conclusions. The Paterno family asked its attorney's law firm, King and Spalding of Washington, D.C., to start "a comprehensive review of the report and Joe Paterno's conduct. They authorized us to engage the preeminent experts in their field and to obtain their independent analyses."
The law firm hired former U.S. attorney general Richard Thornburgh, former FBI supervisory special agent and former state prosecutor James Clemente, and Dr. Fred Berlin, a treating physician, psychiatrist, psychologist and expert in sexual disorders and pedophilia at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and School of Medicine. The family's report attacks Freeh's conclusions, assertions, methodology, investigative abilities and choices, disclosures and independence.

If Louie F. Told me the sky was blue I’d still have to look for myself. I have no idea why Penn State chose that A-hole.
The action taken by Pen State was muted.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Former Attorney General Dick Thornburgh and a team of other high-level experts have found that the Freeh report commissioned by the Penn State University Board of Trustees in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal is factually wrong, speculative and “fundamentally flawed.”
In a comprehensive analysis released today [Feb. 10, 2013], Thornburgh and former top FBI profiler Jim Clemente, prominent Washington Attorney Wick Sollers and the director of The Johns Hopkins Sexual Behaviors Consultation Unit, Dr. Fred Berlin, conclude that the Freeh report was a failure that does not meet the basic requirements of a thorough, objective and fair investigation.
Based on a review of all available evidence, including discussions with attorneys representing Curley, Schultz and Spanier, the experts conclude that the late Penn State Coach Joe Paterno did not attempt to hide any information or hinder or impede any investigation related to the crimes or conduct of former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky.
In what Thornburgh condemns as a “rush to injustice” regarding the Freeh report’s treatment of Joe Paterno, the former Attorney General said that “by supplying judgments without fact, (the Freeh report) undermines our faith in justice and due process.” The six-month analysis, composed of four separate independent reviews, is the most comprehensive and detailed examination of the Freeh report conducted to date. Among other findings, the experts determined that the conclusions of the Freeh report are based on raw speculation and unsupported opinion – not facts and evidence.
The Freeh report failed its client, the Penn State University Board of Trustees, and, more significantly, it failed Sandusky’s victims by not finding the truth. The Freeh report ignored decades of expert research and analysis of the appropriate way to understand and investigate a child sexual victimization case, according to former top FBI profiler Clemente. The Freeh investigation was doomed from the beginning because it started with the wrong assumptions, Clemente concludes.
“The Freeh report is a profound failure,” Sollers said. “It isn't a little wrong on the minor issues. It is totally wrong on the most critical issues. That the Board and the NCAA relied on this report, without appropriate review or analysis, is a miscarriage of justice.”
Other major findings include:
FYI ping.
compare the treatment Joe got to sen. menendez... and menendez is the pedophile.
hell, even Sandusky hasn’t been treated as badly by the press
why was Joe so vilified? because he was a conservative icon
So the family hires their law firm to come up with “THE TRUTH” as only a paid law firm can....surprise, surprise, the paid assassin agrees with the person paying them. JOPAS legend is what it is!!!and nothing a lawyer comes up with will change what the obvious facts of this case has revealed!! JOPA and the higher ups at Penn State cared about His and the university’s reputation above anything else!!!
NCAA fines Penn State 60 million bucks and pays Louis Freeh 6.5 million bucks for the report that justified the fine.
Paid assassin indeed.
So then we all get to pick our "TRUTH" -- Louie Freeh's or Dick Thornburg's.
Choose wisely --
>>because he was a conservative icon<<
He was a SPORTS icon. He was meaningless to conservatives.
Probably the biggest problem with the Freeh Report is that there are no interviews with some of the PSU higher ups involved. That is the real “what”? of the report.
JoePa was already going to win his lawsuit of the NCAA because of the SCOTUS ruling in Tarkanian v NCAA 20 yrs ago. The Paterno Report going to make PSU a winner in court vs the NCAA and the media for slander. I bet the NCAA is already working on a settlement with PSU as we speak......especially after they got caught buying witness testimony in the U of Miami case.....its been a bad 2013 so far for the NCAA
Paterno and the other higher ups refused numerous requests for interviews with Freeh.
As far as I am concerned the NCAA cannot have enough bad years. They only care about where the next $$$$$$ are coming from. It grows & grows just like the govt. They’re rugs are worn out from so much crap being swept under them.
Not true
Paterno didn't refuse.
Only Curly, Schultz and Spanier and that because they were facing indictments.
And it was the state AG who asked that he not talk to McQueary.
Where was Dr Dranov's, Mr McQueary's, the university's legal counsel's interview???
Where were Freeh's interviews with Dr Raykowitz and the 2nd Mile Charity officials who knew about Sandusky and did nothing???
Where were Freeh's interviews with Jerry Lauro and the PA Department of Public Welfare???
Without those under oath he had no evidence that state officials had not been notified as he alleged in his report.
