Just Like Beer, Scotch Gets Canned
ABC News ^ | 09 Jan 13 | Lauren Torrisi

Just when the controversy over the banned FourLoko has died down, a beverage company has come out with straight Scotch in a can, just like soda pop.

Though there’s been no uproar so far, as was the case with the alcohol-caffeine combo FourLoko, Scottish Spirits’ “Scotch in a Can” is being marketed as a “distilled and matured in Scotland for a minimum of 3 years in oak casks.” It has notes of “honey, vanilla, butterscotch, apples and pears,” and a “hint of peat and smoke in the background,” as described on their site.

Each can contains about eight shots or 12 ounces of 80-proof Scotch.

Only Scotch product in a can I’ve ever tried was canned haggis.

Having never had “real” haggis I can’t compare...but it was tasty.

No.

No, no, no. Just no.

Just because you *can* do something, doesn’t mean you should.

This is one of the ultimate examples.

No wonder Hillary Clinton’s maid is smiling. Now, when Hillary falls down, she doesn’t have to worry about broken glass.

Canned haggis may be blasphemy, but who would notice the differnce in taste? (haha. kidneys, lungs, heart, liver, is not to everyone’s taste!)

There's absolutely nothing wrong with wine in a box -- provided that it was good wine, aged properly in casks, before putting it in the box. In fact, boxed wine is better than bottled (everything else being equal), if you're not going to drink the whole bottle at one sitting. The inner bag (in boxed wine) collapses as the wine is withdrawn -- no air gets in. To keep bottled wine for another day, you have to fill the bottle with inert gas, or (at a minimum) immediately decant the remainder into a just-big-enough bottle, which you reseal.

Scotch in a can -- blasphemy doesn't begin to cover it. This product is cheap scotch, with mixers (a form of water pollution). If you have to use a mixer, you aren't drinking scotch. If this were a well-aged single-malt scotch, in those cans along with all that mixer -- that would be a hanging offense.

I'm guessing this isn't being marketed to those who enjoy sipping a 25-year old Macallan.

Heh, did you notice that one of the cans says "single grain scotch whisky"? Pity, the better single grains have been getting some respect lately. This is probably more like paint remover.

It's definitely not a new concept, though. I've seen references to this before in the whisky reviews posted on YouTube by Ralfy Mitchell (entertaining fellow, btw). Hey, it beats "American Idol".

I don't think it matters. You know who is going to drink this stuff? 18-25-year old males (with dire consequences for many of them)...

...and bums.

LOL! I just now noticed this! Blended and single grain. Obviously, the single grain is for those with discriminating tastes.

Coke out of a can sucks.

Pepsi is tolerable, if ice cold. But Coke....no way

As it should be!

God bless the lovely bartender at the now closed 15th Street Tavern in Denver who, when I would order a shot, would fill up half a tumbler.

I worked part time as a bartender back in the late 60’s and an ounce and half was a shot back then as well.

Cool. Just hold it upside down

Punch a hole in the bottom with a church key and then

pull the tab to take it all in with one gulp.

Beautiful.
