Contrary to his website and resume, big-name institutions including Harvard, Yale and the University of Missouri have claimed they have no record of professional or educational history with Florida ophthalmologist Salomon Melgen, MD, who is under two separate federal investigations for Medicare fraud and a political scandal involving a Democratic senator, according to a report by the Washington Free Beacon.
Dr. Melgen's biography (pdf LINK) on his website claims he graduated from Harvard, was the chief resident of ophthalmology at the University of Missouri, and held a Yale internship, but all three denied any record to support his credentials, according to the report.
Dr. Melgen, an active fundraiser for the Democratic Party, is under fire after it was discovered that he and his cousin, U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez (D- N.J.), improperly reported frequent trips to the Dominican Republic, and allegedly hired underage Dominican prostitutes for sex parties.
Which GOP bigwig is gunning for Menendez’s seat?
Meglen has zero experience in port security. But Menendez used a Senate hearing last summer to lobby for enforcement of the contract Melgens company has with the Dominican government. Menendez also met w/ Obama State and Commerce dept officials, though he was careful not to mention Melgen by name.
Meglen announced that one of Menendezs longtime senior legislative aides, Pedro Pablo Permuy, will be in charge of operations, according to Melgens cousin and legal mouthpiece Vinicio Castillo Seman. The contract is estimated to be worth up to $1 billion over the next 20 years, according to The Miami Herald.
Know-nothing Menendez denies any knowledge of his veteran aides involvement with the company, of course. Or rather, his lips have issued another in a long line of denials. Wait, theres more.
While Melgen shelled out millions to Menendez and the Democratic Party over the years, he is a serial tax evader. The jet-setting doc incurred liens of $1.3 million before 2002, $6.2 million in 2011, and a still outstanding $11.1 million lien between 2006-09.
FBI and HHS are now sifting through boxes of documents carted away during last weeks raid of Melgens offices WRT Medicare fraud. The feds finally acted after a document shredding truck was spotted outside Melgens clinic.
So far, the magical D after Sen. Sleaze-Bobs name has conferred supernatural immunity upon him. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid stubbornly clung to his assertion this week that his friend Menendez did nothing wrong. But the mountains of Things Menendez Should Have Known But Conveniently Overlooked and Things Menendez Should Have Done But Conveniently Forgot just keep growing.

Why does anyone think they can get away with lies like this now that almost all records are searchable? Years ago I worked with a guy who claimed he had taught at Harvard. He got away with for years until it finally came out that he had once been a sixth grade teacher in the little town of Harvard Massachusetts.
Slightly OT, but if Harvard, Yale and the University of Missouri have no problem verifying Melgen’s claims of association with them, then why do Occidental, Columbia and Harvard have problems addressing similar claims by Obastard? Is it because Melgen has an important role as a Medicare shyster which is obviously much more important than Leader of the Free World?
see it?
sheesh
Don’t know.
(a) The DR is an impoverished Caribbean nation notorious for corrupt governments and strong-arm dictators.
(b) Despite US politicans' fondness for the "amenities" at its numerous posh resorts (incuding the lavish Casa de Campo owned by the Fanjuls--sugar billionaires), and US celebrities relaxing at posh villas spending big bucks there, the DR has no safety net or state- sponsored job creation for its largely impoverished citizenry.
(c) The one million Dominican citizens currently living in the US send home about a billion dollars annually---which is considered by the corrupt do-nothing DR govt to be a major source of state revenue.
(d) A steady exodus leaves for US shores lured by the endless US gravy train---encouraged by the DR govt---and the prospect of millions more sent back home.
(e) Sen Menendez's business partners in the Dominican govt have cunnningly figured out the financial benefits to be derived from amnesty---establishing a permanent Dem majority of Third World "pressure groups" exchanging votes for foreign aid.

IMPOVERISHED COUNTRIES W/ CITIZENS IN THE US: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico (stateside), Salvador, Spain, Uruguay, Venezuela.
WHAT IS THE DOLLAR AMT OF REVENUE FOREIGN GOVTS ARE RECEIVING FROM THEIR LOYALISTS LIVING OFF US TAXPAYERS?
WHAT IS THE SCOPE OF FOREIGN FINANCIAL DEALS US politicians will exchange for yes votes on amnesty?
The National Association of Latino Electoral and Appointed Officials, La Raza, Voto Latino, The Congressional Hispanic Caucus, etc, (all pushing free-for-all amnesty) need to come clean WRT sub rosa deals they've made with foreign governments.
I predict this one will grow and force Menendez at very least to resign.
Good post thanks.
My husband uncovered various fraudulant resumes during his career as aa corporate officer, and later as owner of our own business. It’s difficult to get these guys fired because the hiring authorities are always reluctant to admit their mistakes.
My husband even exposed a so-called “expert” witness on the opposing side in a product trial. His company won the case, but the “expert” continued to serve in other trials because nobody was willing to check his credentials and go on the record. It was easily apparant that he did not posess a PhD because he couldn’t do the math! Sounds like half of Congress, doesn’t it?
The rest of the charges could come later as they gather more proof about the extent of his medicare fraud.
I agree with you. This is starting to look very bad for Menendez. I’m hoping when he finally stages his press conference, either Michele Malkin or Liz takes over at the mike. Then I’ll finally say: Breitbart lives!
Amen!.....
Senator Menendez, right, and Dr. Salomon E. Melgen,
last February. Meglen is a major Democrat contributor,
partnered w/ Menendez in billion dollar Dominican deal.
There is a strategic opportunity here to gain a Senate seat for the GOP.
If the GOP thought like Dems(remember Jim Jeffords, etc.?), they would work to expose Menendez and build the pressure for his resignation.
Why?
Because NJ has a Republican Governor, who then is free to appoint a replacement Senator until an election takes place(ie.e similar to MA where Duval appointed a replacement for Kerry until a new election takes place).
Dems would pull out all the stops if the roles were reversed. Why? Because incremental gains are still gains.
But the GOP will blow this. Christie will appoint a Dem if he gets a chance, all in the name of fairness, and the voters have spoken.
Dems would never allow that to happen.
The GOP should be trying to turn conservative Dem Senators one by one.
But no, it is far more important to wage war on their biggest bloc of support—the Conservatives.
Because once we get rid of those pesky conservatives, the blacks, Asians, and Hispanics are gonna vote for the GOP in droves.
You betcha.
You can't if you are a Republican. If they can't find anything on you, they'll make something up - Bush AWOL story, e.g.
The DBM sent dozens of reporters up to Alaska to sift through Sarah Palin's trash, but are not the least bit interested in Menendez, other than to claim that it's a "vast right wing conspiracy" to quote Shrillary.
hey, it worked for Obama!
Didn’t he share a dorm room with Obama ?
Perhaps he actually is a doctor, but one trained at a lesser-known school. He may be exaggerating his credentials but not entirely faking them.
I don’t know why but none of my friends believe me when I tell them was a Harverd professor and a graduate of Yail. I’m now teaching at Stanferd.
