Karl Rove's American Crossroads has started a new group to make sure the 2014 Senate races produce zero Todd Akins. But it turns out some conservatives like Rove less than Akin.
-snip-
The Senate Conservatives Fund's Matt Hoskins told Politico the Crossroads group was the "Conservative Defeat Project." Free Republic posters mocked "Tokyo Rove." On Breitbart.com, Ben Shapiro called Rove and his cohorts, "The Bush insider team that helped lead to the rise of Barack Obama." RedState editor Erick Erickson said the Conservative Victory Project was sure to pick losers. "I dare say any candidate who gets this groups support should be targeted for destruction by the conservative movement." Erickson wrote. "Theyve made it really easy not to figure out who the terrible candidates will be in 2014." In another post at RedState, Daniel Horowitz warned of an enemy within under the headline "The Snakes in the GOP Grass":

I believe Karl Rove is being funded by George Soros
Why the push for Liberal candidates when they have gone 0 for 2 in last 2 Presidential elections?
Rove is a Dem Liberal front. He is going to force GOP candidates to spend more money in primaries, so they will have less in the General election, thus aiding the DNC
Conservatives will not vote for Rove-Soros candidates....in primaries or general election...no matter what Sean Hannity or Fox News says
Akin was Michelle Bachmanns baby, not the tea party, and Rove should have backed Palins female candidate, and we would have won the seat.
Akin won the primary by double digits over Sarah Steelman...who got 29% of the primary vote. Steelman also had a lot of the GOP insider backing...not the social conservative base that Akin had
If PhonyCon Liberals had not got so worked up over a comment Akin repeatedly apologized for....he would have won. The 3d place in the primary would have not...
The reason Rove stepped all over Akin was because of the risk of the party getting tarred with Akin's image (of mental retardation). As it turns out, it looks like the party did end up getting tarred with the Akin brush. The Freeper vote is only a few percent of the electorate and an even smaller percentage of the blue state vote. Statements like Akin's lose a lot of middle-of-the-road voters who are vital to GOP victories.
You think?.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bs23CjIWMgA
You are presenting a straw argument - you are missing more than half of a lot of things, including this story. I didn’t vote McCaskill and if I had lived in Missouri, I would have voted for Akin - but right after he won a GOP primary with Dem votes, MANY CONSERVATIVES LIKE LEVIN AND RUSH AND HANNIT YWERE TELLING HIM TO DROP THE HELL OUT BECAUSE HE IS AN INCOMPETENT IDIOT AND GREEDY AND PAID HIS FAMILY MEMBERS WITH DONORS MONEY AND LIED HIS ASS OFF ABOUT WHAT AN OUTISDER HE WAS — AND DAMNED IF HE DIDN’T FOOOOOOOOOL A LOT OF FOOLS.
Rove is wrong, McCaskill sucks, I would have voted Akin, but he’s an arrogatn retarded ass.
Straw argument, just like childish liberals make.....the choice was not Rove or Akin....it was Bruner or maybe Steelman, or any number of other choices.
BTW, I agree with you about Rove, but I am astounded how many people have couched this as Rove V Akin. There were MANY MANY MANY good conservatives against Akin. Some certain conservatives bring the charge of stupid on themselves by supporing every stupid person who happens to be right on a few social issues...as if that’s so damned rare.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Akin was a sham, greedy, stupid, embarrassing, and a six term friggin incumbent trying to run as some outsider.

Sing along with me...
One of these things is not like the other,
One of these things just doesn’t belong!
You must have flunked logic. You did here.
Someone can be stupid, arrogant, greedy, and vote for conservative legislation at the same time.
Someone can also be anti Rove and anti Akin at the same time.
Someone can despise Akin, and yet hope that somehow he beats McCaskill at the same time.
You just got your ass handed to you. Sing along.....
Maybe not tarred. The Democrats were already generating their war on women attack. Akin just gave them a convenient example. Republicans AND Rove should have seen the attack and prepared every candidate.
Please.
If you believe he was a sham and stupid, then his voting record is likewise a sham and stupid.
So that indicates you have a problem with people who are conservative and vote/legislate conservatively.
Nope. Not me that flunked logic. But you just keep making excuses as to why ‘moderation’ is the glorious way forward. If you wanted the conservative to beat the lib, you and all the morons that helped tank his campaign would have NOT helped tank his campaign.
Of course one has to have a better than childlike grasp of logic and indeed, reality to get that I guess...
Even a “couple hours a week” amateur Limbaugh listener like myself knew in January of 2012 that the war on women meme was put on the front burner by journ-0-list Stephanopolus.
First Republican primary debate.
How can a serious US senate candidate not be totally prepped for this stuff?
Akin was also more of a centrist than a conservative.
This is what I don’t get. Akin was no Tea Party darling.
The moderate Republicans can vote consistently liberal, vote to approve leftwing Obama nominees always get support by GOPe yet Akin says one stupid thing a gets punished by GOPe. The hypocrisy is disgusting.
What it came down to was that based on his voting record, he was ‘conservative enough’ to deal with the BS. Which further puts to lie all the BS people fling about ‘purists’.
We KNOW he had issues. But his core conservatism, as displayed by his stellar voting record, was what mattered.
Whats more disgusting is that Freepers piled on like MSNBC liberals. And on this very thread try to excuse their actions.
Conservatives need to learn not to take the bait of liberal journalists. I'm guessing Akin didn't have good pr people.
Dear Karl; the world has changed since 2004. You haven’t. Go away.
Sorry you’re all wrong about Christine O’Donnell.
She should have been a winner.
Rove did her in. It was that election which started me against Rove.
The Democrats hired top-notch computer people and social scientists. The Republicans hired political scientists. The Democrats won an election with a rotten candidate in a rotten economy with our foreign policy in a shambles. Karl Rove has his little white board, trying to convince everyone that if we can just get the two little old ladies down on 4th Street to the polls, we just might win this thing. We are on defense, we have been on the defensive, and we will be playing defense in the future with Rove.
