Rove's 'No More Akins' Group Outrages Conservatives (Free Republic Mentioned)
The Atlantic Wire ^ | 2/4/13 | ELSPETH REEVE

Karl Rove's American Crossroads has started a new group to make sure the 2014 Senate races produce zero Todd Akins. But it turns out some conservatives like Rove less than Akin.

-snip-

The Senate Conservatives Fund's Matt Hoskins told Politico the Crossroads group was the "Conservative Defeat Project." Free Republic posters mocked "Tokyo Rove." On Breitbart.com, Ben Shapiro called Rove and his cohorts, "The Bush insider team that helped lead to the rise of Barack Obama." RedState editor Erick Erickson said the Conservative Victory Project was sure to pick losers. "I dare say any candidate who gets this group’s support should be targeted for destruction by the conservative movement." Erickson wrote. "They’ve made it really easy not to figure out who the terrible candidates will be in 2014." In another post at RedState, Daniel Horowitz warned of an enemy within under the headline "The Snakes in the GOP Grass":

Akin makes a one sentence statement that should not have been said—the Repub’s then throw away the race. With a little support, Akin might have won and moved the R party forward in the US Senate.

Every day, some Dem makes a public statement of far greater horror and one that will harm a big swath of Americans. The Dem party doesn’t even blink an eye and so we have the Pelosi’s, Bidens, Feinsteins, not only winning elections but sitting is positions of prominence. Is this screwed up or what?

Crossroads/Rove funneled that money to the MSM by buying ads

If Tokyo Rove wanted to win, he would have put that money into a real GOTV plan. Instead he and Romney gave us ORCA. For Rove, he took the lazy way out by wasting millions on advertising and gifting it to the liberal media.

Almost everybody but Akin was right about Akin. It’s not like it took a brain surgeon to figure that out.

We are in total agreement, my FRiend.

Hmmm, what if I replaced "yield" to "agree with"?

You Akin Kool Aiders are showing yourselves for fools, and gimme a break, 99% of the anti Akin people are also anti Rove. Comparing him to Palin is breathtakinly out of kilter.

Rove is almost always wrong, but Akin was an arrogant stupid fool who beat two good conservatives in the primary on the strength of liberal votes who knew he was too pathetic to beat McCaskill. Akin is a six term congressman, and anyone who falls for his big “outsider” kick is just foolish.

Fair enough, and anyone with Churchill in their tag line is showing tremendous panache.

Ah, the Atlantic Wire just had to plug gay marriage at the end there. Pathetic. Any primary dandidate who takes money from the Conservative Defeat Project should targeted for total annihilation. Rove should be a plague, best avoided.

You know what they call Conservatives who lose elections? They call them LOSERS. They call conservatives who win elections SENATOR and CONGRESSMAN. There is a big difference.

Todd Akin:
Lifetime ACU Rating: 97.24
Lifetime CFG Rating: 92

Per wiki, endorsed by (among others):
Jeb Hensarling
Jim Jordan
Steve King

Probably the most gettable pickup in the 2012 senate race & Akin got diarrhea of the mouth.

Akin makes a one sentence statement that should not have been said...

Everyone makes mistakes, including "misstatements".

What Mister Akin said, however was what he really believed. There is no coming back from saying that women who are victims of "legitimate" rape rarely get pregnant.

This was not a gaffe, it was a window into the alleged thinking and the absolute stupidity and ignorance (they are different, of course) and unelectability that is one Mister Akin.

Some one-sentence statements are so damnably illuminating that you just cannot walk them back.

So it was a wise move to get rid of a man with a 90+% conservative voting record and replace him with a liberal democrat because Karl and the RINOs thought it was a good idea.

That there is some rock solid logic.

A 90+% conservative voting record. I repeat...a 90+% conservative voting record.

Now when someone explains in detail why replacing this guy with a libDem over an asinine statement is conductive to furthering conservative philosophy and governance, ping me.

Until then, good luck getting anyone with more than two functioning brain cells to buy that bullshit.

Tokyo Rove is all about scamming consulting fees from PAC donors and recklessly wasting their hard-earned money on failed advertising and dinosaur-era political strategies.

We are in agreement, my FRiend.

Well, you failed the "half a brain" test, because you STILL don't get it. IT DOESN'T MATTER if Akin was the absolute coolest, most conservative candidate that ever lived or an uncharismatic goofball. The only thing that matters was that he was a lot more conservative than the bitch that beat him. There was NO POINT in Rove and all the other GOPe fools in trashing Akin after his rape statement - they could have just shut up and let it ride,,or even supported him, and he probably would have won. Instead, they declared all out war in the guy, thus ensuring his loss.

I don't care if Akin sucked as a candidate, Rove was still wrong as hell to trash him. Not only did Rove guarantee the Dem win, but he hurt the GOP in general. Who is going to have respect for a Party that does nothing but trash its own? It made the GOP as a whole look weak and squishy.

You also failed basic reading comprehension. I didn't compare Akin to Palin - I compared Rove's behavior toward Akin to Rove's behavior toward Palin. It is the exact same pattern: the leftwing media trashes a candidate, and Rove goes all in to help them. He is not a friend to conservatives. In fact, I'd say he is a worse enemy to real Americans than the Dems, because we at least know where the Dems stand, but Rove is a NWO liberal trojan horse.

Akin was also more of a centrist than a conservative. I looked it up. Earmarks as far as they eye could see.

Akin was an arrogant stupid fool

Akin had no message discipline. Anyone running at the statewide level needs message discipline. Anything a GOP politician says can be twisted into something that he never meant. There is no room for ad libbing. Akin made the GOP look mentally retarded with his statement about rape victims not becoming pregnant. I hate to say it, but I think Akin and Mourdock ultimately helped Romney and a number of other high profile GOP pols lose their races.
