Fight Against Gay Marriage? Not if the Iowa GOP Wants Young Voters
Ankeny (IA) Patch ^ | February 4, 2013 | Stephen Schmidt

Posted on 02/06/2013 7:19:48 AM PST by fractionated

Young Republicans in Iowa are still split on the institution of marriage being extended to gay people. But there is a growing consensus among college-aged GOPers that in order to win elections, the party's focus should be elsewhere.

Gay and lesbian campus groups and College Republicans haven't exactly been friendly to one another over the years, in Iowa or the rest of the country.

But there are signs that with this coming generation the trend could be changing, and for the Republican Party that could be critical.

"As a young Republican, I see where the party’s coming from with the idea of traditional marriage, but I cannot support that aspect of the platform," said Victoria Hurst, president of the University of Northern Iowa College Republicans.

She said she supports many Republican ideals, but not the party's stance on gay marriage.

"America has bigger problems than who can and cannot marry; it is time to move beyond this and focus on bigger problems, like the federal deficit and unemployment rates," she said....

A Gallup Poll in November of young voters aged 18-29 found that 73 percent support same-sex marriage. Almost a third of Republicans surveyed support gay marriage.

The Republican Party has been losing the battle for young voters in a convincing way the last three elections....

Libertarian-leaning Republicans and Independents who might otherwise vote Republican for fiscal reasons have considered the opposite ticket, or voted third party, Ginty said, as they feel that the government should not be in the business of restricting freedoms for anyone....

This is being pushed by the Left as they know accepting perversion would relegate the GOP to a 10% party. Those who support perversion are not going to switch to voting GOP. Those who do not, the majority of current GOP voters, will not hang around the party any longer.

So alienate known supporters in hopes of gaining inroads for people who might still not vote for you in the end? Marvelous idea!

Iowa DID NOT VOTE for gay marriage...neither did New York...it was FORCED upon them, one by court and one by pay-off to a State Senator, Dean Skellos. Keep lying liberal trolls!

The government should not be imposing it’s religious beliefs (secular humanism) upon us. It is specifically prohibited from doing so by our Constitution.

So the Bastard Steve Smicht is back.

In the words of Cripplecreek:

These so called “moderates” need to hike up their big girl panties and march on over to the democrat camp and moderate them. The republicans have been moderated into a coma and these Rovetards are pinching the feeding tube. If they really cared about moderation they would direct their fire at the democrats who are happily goose stepping into full on fascism.

And he has his little Concern Troll on FR pushing Sodomy and Sin.

Go get lost in some woods Stevie, let the grown ups handle conservatism for a while.

as they feel that the government should not be in the business of restricting freedoms for anyone....

Everyone has the freedom to marry. As with other freedoms, there's an established framework.

Lol, I never understood why liberals care so much about what homosexuals do. You think they were gay or something.

I think its great if gays vote republicans but attempting to change the party to accommodate them is a disaster.

Hell, if they’re the vast voting block they claim to be, they should form a party and rule America.

More facts that support the principle that marriage (one man and one woman) is essential to a healthy society:

The Wealth of Nations Depends on the Health of Families

Gay means happy. A Liberal is far from happy. They are miserable and like to make everyone they come in contact equally miserable. Now if you are inferring that they are homosexual or wish to be, you probably, at least imn my opinion, have a good argument.I would opine that even the homosexual community does not want them.

Those Kapos Republicans would would lead us into collapse as long as they win elections and get a cut of the pork.

Caesar once said when his Legion came across a small mountain village where the houses were made of mud and the tribe was very primitive:

"I would rather be the chief of these mountain people than the second man in Rome."

I finally have the answer as too why the Progressives would spend us into oblivion and make the value of this nation worthless.

Many of them are. I used to have a large number of liberal acquaintences in the 1980s and 1990s. Although none of them were openly gay, not a one of them was altogether straight, either. Given the right circumstances they (both the men and the women) would all have sex with anyone of either sex. One was only excited by bisexual swinging, another only by adolescent girls. There was no limit to how low they would sink to scratch the itch.

What was instructive was that all of them thought that everybody else was Just Like Them, only repressed.
