The Washington Post is suggesting Tuesday that it's somehow national news that a high-school football coach in northern Alabama was caught on tape mocking Michelle Obama for having a "fat butt."
Post reporter Krissah Thompson used this mini-story -- football coach secretly recorded by students who apparently want him fired, and he's already been suspended -- to remind people that Rush Limbaugh and Rep. James Sensenbrenner have also mocked the First Lady's rear end, and this means our "country of white people" are "not showing adequate respect for and devaluing the bodies of black women." Unsurprisingly, then the Post connects this to "historical antecedents" in slave times:
Her presence as first lady challenges the historic view of a black womans place and notions of beauty, says Michaela Angela Davis, a fashion expert who has campaigned for more positive images of black women in the media. Michelle is black from a distance. Shes a REAL black girl, Davis says. A lot of people have tried to make diversity into this weird beige thing. Her presence is just really powerful to interject into the global consciousness.
The first ladys critics are reacting to the culture in which theyve grown up or they are using it as a code to racialize Michelle Obama and remind people that shes black, says Andra Gillespie, an associate professor of political science at Emory University. It is unreasonable to expect a nearly 50-year-old woman to have the body of a 25-year-old.
Actually when he responds to this piece of trash, like he probably will today, he will get to actually utter those words which he has never uttered before.
Meanwhile, this is an issue designed to move the focus from our real problems to something that is a non issue or not important.
Maybe people can say she is big-boned? That is how I used to hear people describe certain people, and it had NOTHING to do with race. Her race (and Barry’s), is used as a crutch to shiled them from everything. It is silly and demeaning to all.
The pic needs one more arrow to complete the meme. One to her face with the word “grump”.
Gillespie is the one with the racism and bias by making statements such as this. To paraphrase M L King: People should be evaluated by the content of their character, not the size of their butt.
I have examined the content of Michelle's character, and find it lacking. I have also examined the size of her butt, and do not find it lacking.
Listen to Rush regularly, never heard him refer to Michelle as “my butt” Obama; but, have heard him say “Moochelle” and “My belle” Obama. IMHO, the quote from WP about “my butt” is out and out lie.
I don’t find Michelle Obama attractive, but that has a whole lot more to do with the apparent snobbery, arrogance, and anger than with her size. However, it’s not productive to focus on her in any respect. The real threat is her husband and those who support him, and we cannot afford to divide our attention when freedom is facing immediate and exceptionally grave danger from the man in our White House.
What’s a Krissah?
When you’re out there trying to REGULATE WHAT WE EAT, you better be prepared to take some heat!
“Longfellow”
Has a nice ring to it.
Roses are red
Violets are blue
Moochelle got a butt like a B-52
What the heck does that even MEAN ???....I think it means she’s been disenfrenchfried.
“Do I look fat in this dress?”
“Yes, but you’d look fat in any dress. You’re fat.”
Well Krissy .. it's then .... an anatomical observation.
Is it OK to just tell you
gfy
??
Thanks for that. I knew a black woman years ago who was almost an exact double of Michelle. Same height same body shape almost identical facial features. She was a huge powerful woman with long arms and legs and high cheekbones. Michelle is not fat she is just big. I always felt like it was a tribal thing.
Fine! I'm no "racist!"
Mark
But she doesn’t indict rap music and rap musicians?
“Krissah Thompson” is a professional race baiter.
The Washington Post and most major dailies have them in their stable of writers.
Krissah Thompson
...and of course, no Obama supporters ever called Rush fat or anything....
Or, two totally different questions, altho many people confuse them:
“Do I look fat in this dress?”
“Does this dress make me look fat?”
