He's already being treated like the 2016 GOP presidential front-runner, and now there is another reason Republicans are excitedly buzzing about Florida Sen. Marco Rubio: He alone would reverse the party's slide among Hispanic voters.
A new nationwide poll from JZ Analytics found that Rubio would get 48 percent of the Hispanic vote, about twice what Mitt Romney won in 2012. Republican strategist told Secrets that a win among Latino voters that big would assure Rubio the presidency, since he would also likely keep the regular GOP base.
"If he does that good, then he's the next president," said a senior GOP official. "It makes him The Man, I guess," added the official.
The poll, provided to Secrets, did not indicate why Hispanics like Rubio, other than his story growing up in Florida as a child of Cuban parents is well known. He has also joined the bipartisan Senate effort to reform immigration.

I live in Florida and I’ve seen Rubio speak ... He’s amazing, not only an extremely good speaker, but with a real depth of knowledge of the issues. Heck, he should have skipped senator and run directly for president last time around.
But he will have two problems.,.the voter
perception that the GOP is anti-Hispanic, and the reality that the GOP e only wants somebody who is like them (rich, WASP, male RINOs). That’s what “electable” means in their minds.

I am quite surprised to see that after 20 posts on this thread, the issue of whether or not Rubio meets the constitutional “must be native born” clause, has not been brought up ( edit to add, this goes for the other ethnic favorite — Bobby Jindal ).

That's true now because roughly one third of Hispanics came here legally, or were born here, and resent the illegal line jumpers just as much or more so than the rest of us. Another 7% to 10% might be won over on tribal grounds.
However, if you water down that pool by legalizing a ton of illegals, the 40% may not be achievable or even realistic. Particularly if the Democrats counter with their own La Raza nominee like that Mayor of Los Angeles.
I'm not particularly impressed with Rubio. I'd much rather see a nominee like Ted Cruz if race has to be the main factor in our selection.

As usual, when ‘analyzing’ the impact of the Hispanic vote, no study at all of how many conservative votes will be lost by nominating a pandering, amnesty pushing RINO.

Marco Rubio was born is Miami, Florida. He is a natural born citizen of the United States, and is eligible to be President per the Constitution. No court is going to rule otherwise. The end.
Yes. And that is why this attitude (very prevalent here on FR) is why we will lose (again). It seems like FR is full of people who, if any candidate deviates in any small detail from their “received wisdom”, will not vote for him or her.
If these folks are so set in their ways, they should try to form a third party, and see how that works out for them.

BS. I suggest you take a look at an electoral map and also where most Hispanics live. According to the exit polls, Hispanics/Latinos made up 10% of the total vote, compared to 13% for blacks and 3% for Asians. Whites made up 72% of the vote--I presume that that figure includes some white Hispanics since 53% of Hispanics self-describe themselves as white. Non-Hispanic whites are 66% of the population.
Hispanics voted 71% to 27% for Obama. Even if Rubio were to increase his vote total of Hispanics by an additional 13%, it would be of dubious value electorally except perhaps for FL. Ted Cruz received about 36% of the Hispanic vote in Texas compared to Romney's 30%. And this is Texas. No way Rubio gets 40% nationwide especially if Hillary is the Dem nominee.
Reps are deluded if they believe that nominating a token candidate to take advantage of identity politics will be successful against the Dems. And I bet that Hillary will surpass Obama in getting the woman's vote. Obama got 55% of the woman's vote.
He is Reaganesque in his speaking, and has been a solid legislator for conservatives (not perfect, but solid).
What has he done of note?
If he navigates a reasonable result on immigration, I think he’ll prove to be a worthy candidate. I’ve said for awhile, this immigration will make or break Rubio’s presidential aspirations. His position is reasonable; the question is whether legislation reflect his ideas or is a sellout to the left to allow amnesty after the fact.
Reasonable? I beg to differ. Rubio has joined with Schumer, McCain, and Graham to give us essentially McCain-Kennedy all over again. He is supporting amnesty. As someone who has actually read Simpson-Mazzoli, Hagel-Martinez, and McCain-Kennedy, what we see is old win in new bottles. Rubio is just the new salesman for amnesty.
Any legislation that legalizes the status of those who broke our laws by entering our country illegally and allows them to stay and work here is amnesty. We must not only prevent the Democrats and some moderate Republicans from hijacking the meaning of the word amnesty, but the public must be made aware about the true impact of an amnesty.
The Heritage Foundation concluded that the cost of amnesty would be $2.6 trillion just for increased entitlement program costs. And the number of additional LEGAL immigrants who would join those who were the recipients of amnesty through chain migration, i.e., family reunification, would approach 70 million over a 20-year period, assuming there are only 12 million illegal aliens. We cannot assimilate such numbers. An amnesty would destroy the United States of America with the stroke of a pen.
... Of course this pole is recent .... when the election season is in full swing .... no matter who the GOP nominee is, by the time the Democrat/Socialist media propaganda machine is finished .... he or she will appear to be the spawn of Satan and unelectable.
According to the 14th Amendment Rubio is a natural born citizen. Rubio’s parents were in the US at the permission of the US govt, therefore Rubio is nbC.
Mark Levin believes Rubio is nbC.
Rubio is not a conservative on the issue of immigration. He has joined McCain, Graham, and Schumer as an amnesty supporter.
Rubio is an American. But he can't ever be the POTUS since he's not natural born. His parents were CUBAN when he was born.
