Chilling Video: Thousands of Neo-Nazis March Through Athens

Tens of thousands of neo-Nazis rallied in Athens in support of Greece's far-right Golden Dawn party, in the movement's largest demonstration of support since its rise to power in last June’s general election.

Men dressed in military uniforms, holding torches, donning swastikas and chanting anti-immigrant slogans, marched through central Athens in what was reportedly a memorial event paying tribute to the party’s “fallen soldiers,” The International Business Times reported.

"This is a day of remembrance. It's a day to remember that Golden Dawn is here to stay. And so long as it does, there will be hope for the country," Golden Dawn spokesman Ilias Kassidiaris told supporters.

Hundreds of riot police and security officials were deployed to the scene of the march, which took place near the prime minister's office and the Turkish embassy in Athens, according to The Times.

The party, which has become notorious for its blatant anti-Semitic and xenophobic rhetoric and has been responsible for perpetrating attacks on Jews and foreigners, has begun spreading its anti-immigration message in schools and youth clubs, as well as through online social media networks, according to recent reports in the international press.

Nazi Germany invaded Greece ( and Yugoslavia ) just before it did Russia in 1941.

Italy invaded Greece on October 28, 1940.

Unemployment, despair, a standard of living devastated. Except for the hyper inflation Greece today has much in common with Germany post WW1

So this is what happens when entitlements are reduced. What happens when they are cut off?

Pretty much. Liberals wanting their guaranteed place or piece of the pie. They just define who gets what based on race while libs here define it by class and political orientation.

Who was it that said that it will be the skin heads who will save Europe? I guess its a question of which extreme will be acceptable? A Caliph or a Fascist State? And when it gets down to that, who will take all those who are going to be expelled? Hmmmmmm? History continues to repeat.

As long as Golden Dawn is the only Greek party to campaign against immigration, then Golden Dawn will get the voters who don't want to see their country Islamified.

The stag in the forest runs free
But gathered together to greet the storm
Tomorrow belongs to me."

Stuttaford passes on a report from Der Spiegel:

One of the arguments for the EU’s “ever closer” union is that if momentum towards the quasi-federal something (that so few actually want) is not maintained, Europe will revert to war, extremism and the other horrors of its past.

Fortunately the genius of the single currency and ‘one size fits all’ has made this an impossibility.

Take this story from Der Spiegel:

The Greek right-wing extremist party Golden Dawn has established contacts with German neo-Nazis in Bavaria. The group, which is represented in Greek parliament, is also attempting to set up a cell in the southern German state. The Greek right-wing extremist party Golden Dawn is establishing close contacts with Bavarian neo-Nazis and began setting up a cell in Nuremberg last year. The party, known in Greek as Chrysi Avgi, even held a conference in the southern German city recently. Bavaria’s state intelligence agency is particularly interested in meetings that have been taking place between right-wing extremists from Greece and those in Bavaria…

Golden Dawn is led by Nikolaos Michaloliakos and has called for a revolution in Greece and an “ethnically pure” nation. Members of the party are accused of physically attacking immigrants and members of the country’s left-wing. They also regularly stage intimidating marches, wearing military uniforms and singing Nazi chants, in immigrant neighborhoods of Athens. Support for the party has increased following the debt crisis and the radical austerity measures imposed on Greece by international lenders. Golden Dawn won seats in parliament for the first time in last year’s election and is currently polling at 12 percent.

Oh.

Keep calm. All is well.

It’s just another scapegoat for totalitarians to take over.

“Finding” problems and claiming to be able to fix them is the politicians stock in trade.

The only good government is LESS government.

Nazis and Communists only hated each other because they targeted the same demographic groups.

It’s like the Peoples Front of Judea and the Judean Peoples Front, the only thing they hated more than the Romans was each other, but other than that, pretty much the same.

RE :”Yes, Italy invaded Greece first, but Germany invaded Greece later because Italy screwed up so bad there”

The Greeks and Serbs sent the Italians packing so Hitler was forced to invade which delayed his invasion of USSR a fewmonths which was very costly for Germans who needed that few months advantage before winter set in.

Hitler would blame weak Musselini for his problems in Russia because of this,

So, the immigrants in question came from North Africa?

Greece: Illegal Immigration in the Midst of Crisis

Once known for its large-scale emigration, Greece transitioned to a country of destination for Central and Eastern European immigrants after the fall of the Soviet Union and other communist regimes in the region. More recently, the country has become one of entry and transit for hundreds of thousands of unauthorized immigrants from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. As a result, Greece is now grappling with issues related to its highly porous borders, mounting asylum applications, faltering immigrant detention system, allegations of human-rights violations, and the effective integration of the country's many foreign-born permanent residents.

If you dig through all the numbers apparently the entire country of Albania has moved to Greece, making up 60% of legal immigrants. The numbers for illegal immigrants are a bit murkier, however.

Illegal immigration to Greece has increased rapidly over the past several years. Tough immigration policies in Spain and Italy and agreements with their neighboring African countries to combat illegal immigration have changed the direction of African immigration flows toward Greece. At the same time, flows from Asia and the Middle East — mainly Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Bangladesh — to Greece appear to have increased as well.

The evidence now indicates that nearly all illegal immigration to the European Union flows through the country's porous borders. In 2010, 90 percent of all apprehensions for unauthorized entry into the European Union took place in Greece, compared to 75 percent in 2009 and 50 percent in 2008.

I’ve been saying for a while that I expect to see concentration camps in Europe in my lifetime. The only question is who will be running them?
