Why does the civilian Department of Homeland Security need billions of rounds of ammunition?
This is the agency that is responsible for policing the border. But it doesn’t.
This is the agency that is responsible for catching terrorists. But it doesn’t.
So why does Homeland Security need so many weapons and enough hollow-point rounds to plug every American six times?
Maybe this is the “civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded” as the Defense Department.
These words – “civilian national security force” – have haunted me ever since I first read them.
Obama has never explained what he meant.
He’s never been called to account for that remark.
Doesn’t this sound like police-state talk to you?

62 or 65 gr .223 in SP or HP boattail. Nothing. Some off brand 40gr bullets, but no Sierra, Remington, Winchester, or Hornday. No 5.56 brass. Primers are all on backorder.
Haven't checked Brownells, Midway, MidSouth, or the others yet...

I was able to pick up 100 rounds at Wal Mart on Friday. They had about 1,000 rounds in stock, but it was $17.97 per 50 rounds.
You can either cast or swage bullets. Casting is pretty cheap, swaging requires heavy press and dies. At this point is not normally cost effective for an individual.
There are a lot of manufacturing facilities in Texas who could easily make jacketed bullets.
I have about 3000 .223 once fired. Mixed head stamps. Some mil crimped. Can get more easily enough. I have a bunch more loaded for everything from distance to varmints.
Was looking in to a set of casts for 180gr 10mm. Just haven’t gotten around into that madness yet.

You send it to them. If you don’t like what they are doing with your money, stop sending them money.
That, alone, will get their attention.
Cast bullets for utility use is very practicle. One of my bullet molds (Lee C-308-170 FP) works well in my 30-30 but can also be used in .308 and 30-06 if needed. (<$20 mold)
I reload with jacketed bullets, but it is nice to have the option on cast.
Reloading 30-30 with cast bullets, if you already have the brass, can be done for 12-15 cents per round. Pretty cheap hunting ammo. And it works well. It is not effortless. Properly sorting and melting wheel weights is a challenge today. Lots of variables, but the natural hardness of the right wheel weights is almost ideal for medium velocity cast bullets.
We hunt with ARs, good for chasin caribou & wolves off snowmachine & atv. Have a few, but last couple years got a 6.8, 338 fed, and 308 Scar. Started reloading about 5 years back, after the supplies came back to the shelves in 2009; I went into Sportsmans and spent 4 gran on powder, primers, brass, ect; usually mail order bullets in from nosler & brownells & midway, ect. My grandkids ain't running ammo when the caribou come through anytime soon either.
I have to start working on reloading for my pistols, 44's 480, 460s, 1911s ect. I got 2k 45 acp brass from starline in dec and now it's unavailable. Also got 500 lapua 308, but now all gone too. I usually back order from brownells, they are pretty good about doing that even with high demand items other places won't even consider back ordering for ya. I have a few things on back order and they usually come in in a month or so or less. I wish I had a close shop, nearest real gun shop is 400 miles away and road is covered with glaciers, might melt off by June. My one favorite gun shop, the guy that gives me 1200 dollar Acogs for $900 and such; he says he can't order anything as far as guns or reloading supplies and their shelves are also pretty empty. It's bad but back ordering fits my needs. I often call RCBS when I need new dies and ask them who has them in stock, they tell me and then I order.
I guess all the mail order places have their good and bad, Cabelas usually has biggest supply on hand, Sinclair/Brownells back orders, Midway seems to keep getting resupplied regularly. When ever I spend say 5 hundred or better on reloading stuff, I always demand free shipping and get it. Cabelas is real good for that.
Here in rural Alaska, people make their own bullets too, but I've been using nosler partitions and TTSX's on moose & bear for so long, I'd feel jinxed making my own, ha ha. I just keep over 100 boxes on my shelf mostly 30 cal, 338, .277; that covers what I use fairly well.
Had some friends from when I was in Army in the early 70's from Diana, Texas; do ya know of that place? My daughter also goes to school in Big Springs, she likes Texas, comes home at xmas & summers.

Yeah, I'm having a hard time figuring that one out. I'm happy I stocked up on that late last year, because the shelves at my local big box store are absolutely empty as of last Saturday. One thing about a panic like this - when the shelves do fill again the price doesn't seem to go down to where it was.
I used to joke about 0bama being a firearms industry plant but now I'm not so sure it's a joke. Shoulda bought Ruger stock when I had the chance.
No, I have never been to Diana, Texas. It is in Far East Texas. I live in the Rolling Plains, between Ft. Worth and Lubbock. (North of Abilene)
We have several local privately owned stores that sell ammo. They still have some of most calibers. The nearby WalMart is almost totally sold out. Odd, because the little privately owned stores prices are as good if not better. And their staff is knowledgeable.
There are a few places where I can buy primer, powder and some bullets. But most of it is ordered on-line. That dependency is not a good thing. If this were to get really bad, you could forget the on-line source.
