Turkey's state-run news agency says a missing New York City woman has been found dead in Istanbul.
Sarai Sierra, a 33-year-old mother of two, went missing while vacationing alone in Istanbul. She was last heard from on Jan. 21, the day she was due back home.

I love Istanbul, but it is not a place for a woman alone, especially one who has never been out of the US before. This result is as predictable as the result would be of standing in the middle of oncoming highway traffic at night, wearing dark clothing.
Hard to be sympathetic to that degree of wilful ignorance.
I would ask what kind of mother goes on vacation with her children?
Everyone doesn’t want to go to Disneyland or camping - who in their right mind wants to cope with screaming children when you want to look at paintings in the Louvre.....

I don’t know.. but I think a lot of the younger generation (I’d say 40 and under) believe the whole,”They are just like us” bunk. Seriously... I know one young couple went to Mexico. I asked them did they think they would be safe and they looked at me and said, “Why wouldn’t we be?’ Florida is equal to Iraq is equal to Canada. They don’t read anything about the dangers.. they only read about the “adventures”. Very sad.. she leaves 2 kids and a husband and for what? Some really cool pictures.
This is sad. Remember a few years back, there was some AF officer lady who went missing for several days in Turkey. She said she was kidnapped. The story never made any sense nor had any real conclusion.

Remember the three college students who were captured by Iranians while “hiking” on the border of Iraq? I think they studied “conflict resolution.”
I thought the family said something about her going to Turkey to “take pictures.” I thought she was some kind of photographer.
I remember reading the same thing.. she was a photographer. I don’t mean to sound like some oldster... “those darn young en’s” but it is just that I’ve heard this story over and over. Do they not believe there aren’t bad people in the world that would kill an American for the simple fact that they are American. Or, do they believe that somehow.. they can show kindness and respect and be left alone? Doesn’t make sense to me at all.
I was attacked by a gang of thieve’s when I went out into the crowded streets at night after our tour for the day ended. Muggers attempted but failed to rob me.
I sat down in the middle of the street and started shouting for the POLICE at the top of my lungs. Apparently, in those days the criminal gangs still feared the police. Now, with extremist whack Jobs running Turkey is any non-moslem safe in their giant Port-a-potty nation? Screw them all to the floor and drown them all in bacon grease and feed them to hogs.
Some mothers actually love their children.
This woman also made a side trip to Amsterdam before going to Turkey. Something is not right with this story.
She had a date in Constantinople, but ended up in Istanbul.

I don’t see why loving your children means you have to spend every single holiday at some kind of dumbed down kids’ thing like Disneycrap, or why you have to give up all your own interests. And it can be great for the children to spend time with cousins on a farm or visting their grandparents in another part of the country while the mother spends two weeks on an archeological dig in China or going to a Shakespeare festival in London or traveling through Finland to look at ceramics. Who would want to give that up, and who would want to drag an eight year old to any of the above events.

People who love their children share their passions with their children. That’s when the greatest talent is forged.
I see a lot of kids developing great talents for Martial Arts, music and Shooting because their parents enjoy sharing it with them. That even works with archeological digs and great literature as well. One friend of mine is involved in historical Civil War battle reenactments. His preteen son performs with him.
I guess the more “progressive” sort dumps the kids off with the nanny.
Well, little children - under the age of seven, are not usually at their best at events that require extended periods of quiet attention or when adults are having serious conversations or giving lectures on art theory, science, etc. That’s why it is generally understood that there is a separation between the activities and pursuits of adults and children.
And as for nannies being the resort of progressives, you could not be more mistaken. All the children of the traditional haute bourgeoisie and the aristocracy were in the care of nannies and governesses growing up - the entire ruling class of 19th century Europe was raised that way - and turned out some of the greatest statesmen, writers and artists in history.
