TRENTON It looks like Geraldo Rivera is already prepping his platform.
One day after announcing on his radio show that he is "truly considering" running in 2014 for the U.S. Senate seat now held by New Jersey's Frank Lautenberg, Rivera amped up his message today in a television interview and a column on the Fox News Latino website.
The longtime media personality portrayed himself as a moderate Republican who is fiscally conservative but also supports gay marriage and Roe v. Wade.
"Democrats have a huge registration advantage in New Jersey," Rivera said during a short interview on the Fox News morning show "Fox and Friends." "But I really do believe, as a moderate Republican, there is a point of view that is unrepresented in states like New Jersey. There can be a new vitalization of the Republican party."
Rivera a longtime Fox News TV anchor is the first Republican to publicly express interest in the seat. Although the 89-year-old Lautenberg has not given any indication he won't seek re-election, Newark Mayor Cory Booker recently said he was interested running, and a number of other Democrats are also waiting in the wings. Rivera, 69, a resident of Edgewater in Bergen County and former owner of the Two River Times newspaper in Red Bank, said in today's interview he envisions a Republican Party "we extol the virtues of good business and fiscal policy and fight the deficit and don't advocate the printing of money in obscene amounts just to cover our debts."

Cory Booker is the next anointed senator from my state. He may actually be a better choice than Gerry Rivers.
Go away Heraldo.
I declare him a major douchebag.
Yes, we all know about Bob Menendez, but I think that even NJ residents aren't down with what Geraldo has done in his life.
Scuzzy doesn't even begin to describe this guy's past.
Republican? Hah!
Um, er well, perhaps.
"Republican" is unfortunately associated with scumminess.
He might be a shoo-in in NJ.
LOL!!!
“There can be a new vitalization of the Republican party.”
Doubtful, but certainly not with thew likes of this scum.
ANY republican GOP politician that backs or in ANYWAY helps this jerk , should be run out of town.
NO MORE DAMN RINOs!!!
Is he running under Jerry Rivers or Whorealdo?
He should, instead, think of working on his stand-up routine and hit the club circuit.
The Republican Party establishment will back Whorealdo before they will back a Conservative.
“Geraldo Rivera declares himself a ‘moderate Republican’ as he eyes U.S. Senate run”
Maybe he meant ‘modern Republican’.
As an aside, where are all of the moderate Democrats? Maybe there aren’t any.
I am certain of it.
Ef the whore. I can’t stand him. He can go to hell with the rest of them.
They morphed into Republicans for the most part and the remainder just faded away. Zell Miller was probably one of the last, though I believe he was a Conservative Democrat.
The SAME as Lautenburg
Remember.....this whore gave the whereabouts of a mission, drawing it in beach sand, if I remember correctly. He let the enemy know where they were and would be heading.
A friends son was in that troop...and was killed in action. FU whore.
Let’s see if I have this straight. He’s a moderate Republican. Ergo, he is in favor of Obamacare, gay marriage, open borders, unlimited government, much higher taxes, more social spending, the elimination of the Defense Department, the repeal of the Second Amendment, thinks compromise means Pelosi is a right wing loon and thinks every live birth represents a failure of the first order.
Heh, Good one Herraaallldo.
Well, maybe he is a Moderate Republican... since it seems these days that moderate republicans are socialists that don’t quite worship Marx, Lenin and Mao, but kinda like Castro and Chavez.
That think that the Constitution was OK for its time, but kinda outdated for the last 50 years....
That think if the USA were just a little more generous giving money and praise to its enemies, and open its borders to all comers that it wouldn’t be such a mean country.
