Dear FReepers:
We need your help to get this FReepathon moving again. Now starting the second month of the fundraiser and we're lagging behind the pace. Hopefully it'll pick up so we can complete it in the next few weeks.
Free Republic stands for God and Country!! We defend Life, Family, Constitution, Liberty!! And we defend our God-given, constitutionally guaranteed right to keep and bear arms!! TO THE HILT!!
FR is funded solely by contributions made by like-minded liberty loving people who enjoy and use it.
We are beholden to no political party. No outsiders, no sugar daddies, no advertisers, no corporate string pullers. No government grants and no tax subsidies. Just you and me, baby and we need each other.
We are self-funded, fiercely independent and enjoy our freedom to speak plainly in the defense of liberty.
But we cannot do it without your support.
If you have not yet made your donation this quarter, today would be an excellent day to do so.
Every donation counts no matter how big or small. If you can donate $5, $10, $20 or more, it would be greatly appreciated.
Your loyal support makes Free Republic possible and your continuing participation makes FR the leading INDEPENDENT, pro-life, pro-family, pro-small government, pro-defense, pro-gun, grassroots conservative forum on the Net!!
And we're going to need FR now more than ever to combat the current crop of Marxists, fascists and progressives who have infested our government and public institutions and who are dead set on destroying the final remnants of our cherished constitution and our precious God-given Liberty!!
Freedom is never more than one generation from extinction. --Ronald Reagan
NOT ON MY WATCH!!
Never surrender!! Never retreat!! Never give up your guns!!
Click the link above to donate via secure server or by mail to: Free Republic, LLC - PO Box 9771 - Fresno, CA 93794
Monthly Challenge:
Make it a monthly if you can. We currently have some very generous FReeper sponsors contributing an extra ten dollars for each new monthly signed up, so here's a chance to get a little extra bang for your buck!!
I_be_tc's $100 challenge:
FReeper I_be_tc donated $100.00 last week and challenged 300 others to match. Thirty-seven FReepers have met the challenge so far. If 300 FReepers would follow through, this FReepathon would end quickly!! Woo hoo!!
Thank you all very much!!
Your loyal support is greatly appreciated!!
God bless you and God bless America!!

Wow! I hadn't seen that presented visually in such stark contrast. It's well known that Conservative areas, such as Texas and Oklahoma are free of the violence that are the norm in liberal cesspools like Massachusetts and more recently, with a high profile, Connecticut. But that map makes it clear -- crystal clear.
Leftist tool Piers Morgan of CNN ought to take that into account when he heads to Texas on Monday.

"The way to have safe government is not to trust it all to the one, but to divide it among the many, distributing to everyone exactly the functions in which he is competent....To let the National Government be entrusted with the defense of the nation, and its foreign and federal relations..... The State Governments with the Civil Rights, Laws, Police and administration of what concerns the State generally. The Counties with the local concerns, and each ward direct the interests within itself. It is by dividing and subdividing these Republics from the great national one down through all its subordinations until it ends in the administration of everyman's farm by himself, by placing under everyone what his own eye may superintend, that all will be done for the best."

the principles of all genuine liberty, and of wise laws and administrations are to be drawn from the Bible and sustained by its authority. The man therefore who weakens or destroys the divine authority of that book may be accessory to all the public disorders which society is doomed to suffer

"The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men."

To the kindly influence of Christianity we owe that degree of civil freedom, and political and social happiness which mankind now enjoys
whenever the pillars of Christianity shall be over thrown, our present republican forms of government, and all blessings which flow form them must fall with them

"I am not among those who fear the people. They, and not the rich, are our dependence for continued freedom.
And to preserve their independence, we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt.
We must make our election between economy and liberty, or profusion and servitude.
If we run into such debt, as that we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts,
in our labors and our amusements, for our calling and our creeds as the people of England are, our people, like them,
must come to labor sixteen hours in the twenty-four, give the earnings of fifteen of these to the government for their debts
and daily expenses; and the sixteenth being insufficient to afford us bread, we must live, as they now do, on oatmeal and potatoes;
have no time to think, no means of calling our miss-managers to account but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves
to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers Our land-holders, too, like theirs, retaining indeed the title
and stewardship of estates called theirs but held really in trust for the treasury, must wander, like theirs, in foreign countries,
and be contented with penury, obscurity, exile, and the glory of the nation. This example reads to us the salutary lesson,
that private fortunes are destroyed by public as well as by private extravagances.
Thomas Jefferson, letter to Sam Kercheval about reform of the Virginia Constitution, July 12, 1816; Bergh 15:39-40

Annals of Congress, House of Representatives, 3rd Congress, 1st Session, page 170 (1794-01-10)
The Annals summarize speeches in the third person, with the actual text of Madisons quote as follows: Mr. Madison wished to relieve the sufferers, but was afraid of establishing a dangerous precedent, which might hereafter be perverted to the countenance of purposes very different from those of charity. He acknowledged, for his own part, that he could not undertake to lay his finger on that article in the Federal Constitution which granted a right of Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents. The expense in question was for French refugees from the Haitian Revolution.
